RESOLUTION Sergeant P.W. Anderson, Jr. Serial #11019 Los Angeles Police Department

WHEREAS, P.W. Anderson, Jr. graduated from Loyola High School in 1954; and

WHEREAS, P.W. enlisted in the United States Naval Reserves in July 1954 and in November of 1954 married Darlene Phillips; and

WHEREAS, P.W. and Darlene parented seven children and three are currently active City of Los Angeles employees; and

WHEREAS, P.W. served in the United States Navy during the 1961 Cuban Missile Crisis; and

WHEREAS, P.W. received an AA Degree from Valley College, and BS Degree from University of Southern ; and

nd WHEREAS, P.W. was appointed to the Los Angeles Police Department February 2 , 1962 and assigned to the West Valley Division where he was instrumental in the protection of the Onion Field Officer's wives while the investigation was ongoing; and

WHEREAS, on May 26, 1963 P.W. was assigned to the North Hollywood Division and assisted in Public Evaluations during the Baldwin Hills Reservoir Flood; and

WHEREAS, in March 1964, P.W. was assigned to the Wilshire Division and work with the F-Cars (Felony Patrol) where PW worked in plain clothes; and

WHEREAS, in May 1965, P.W. was assigned to Metro Division where he preformed dignitary protection, bank stake-outs, and assisted in the Watts Riots in 1965; and

WHEREAS, in July 1967, P.W. was assigned to the Van Nuys division as a Detective; and

WHEREAS, April 21, 1968, P.W. was assigned to the Foothill division as a Sergeant, where he worked traffic division, vice squad; and WHEREAS, P.W. was promoted to Sergeant II in December 1970 in the Metro Division, where he was involved in the shoot out with the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA) in May 1974; and

WHEREAS, P.W. involved in the prevention oflooting during the ; and

WHEREAS, P.W. was involved in the 1997 North Hollywood Bank shoot out and was assigned while at the Metro Division VIP and United States Presidential Protection Team as well as becoming the Unit Supervisor for the LAPD Mounted Police; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant P.W. retired May IS" 2007 from Los Angeles Police Department after more than 45 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Los Angeles:

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOVLED, that by adoption of this resolution, the Los Angeles City Council hereby commends Sergeant P.W. Anderson, Jr. on his many outstanding achievements during more than 45 years ofloyal and dedicated service to the Los Angeles Police Department, congratulates him on the completion of his outstanding career in law enforcement and extends best wishes to him on a long, happy and rewarding retirement.
