Reliable, cost effective and sustainable modes help in rapid movement of people and goods, not only within a country but also between countries. Considering the ubiquitous nature of the transportation system and the crucial role played by it in the lives of people, it is imperative that the problems associated with the transport systems are addressed in a time bound manner by the scientific community. It goes without saying that the problems associated with the transportation system get accentuated in urban areas. It is estimated that by the mid twenty-first century, 68% of the population will live in urban areas. Increase in purchasing power of the people have seen a rise in private vehicle ownership. The burgeoning population, rise in vehicle ownership, along with the demand for reliable and accessible transportation facilities for people and goods are posing a severe strain in the transportation systems. Moreover, unforeseen challenges in the form of the pandemic have posed serious challenges to the patronage of the public transport systems. Furthermore, safety, accessibility, mobility and parking challenge transportation engineers to suggest feasible and sustainable solutions for the problems. The need for the hour is therefore to provide sustainable solutions to transport related problems.

The Madras High Court has directed the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur (IIT-K) to give preference to candidates who have answered in exact numerical value in decimal notation, rounding off to second decimal place, to candidates who answered by rounding off values to one decimal point or without any decimal notation in the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced- 2018).Justice S Vaidyanathan gave the directive while allowing a writ petition from L Lakshmi Sree, who wrote the JEE in Chennai on May 20. Petitioner said candidates were instructed to answer in correct numerical value in decimal notation rounded off to the second decimal place. Full marks are to be given only if answered as per the instructions. According to petitioner, as per the instructions, she spent quality time to answer the questions by entering correct numerical value in decimal notation rounding off to second decimal. However, some candidates, without reading the instructions carefully, had answered with one decimal point or without any decimal notation, she added. Subsequently, the authorities concerned made a clarification on their website stating that “If an answer is the integer 11, all the answers entered as 11, 11.0, or 11.00 will be correct.”The petitioner wrote an e-mail to the authorities concerned on June 1 stating that awarding marks to candidates who had not strictly followed the original instructions would affect the marks and ranks of those who had followed the instructions spending time.

The focus of Impulse is on coverage R S Day 2019 of (a) events like workshops, (b) games and sports, and (c) socio-cultural aspects of the institute. 03 06 In every edition of Impulse in Director's message I try to give a sense of institute's Sponsored projects Collaboration current priorities. After shifting to the campus in 2015, our first two years were spent from January 2018 with Foreign in stabilizing ourselves in the new environment. Simultaneously and in the next two to February 2019 Universities years our priority was streamlining. Processes and structures were established and/or updated to meet the demands of growth and stability. We can confidently say that IIT Patna is a well governed institute with high value placed on transparency, harmony, 07 10 fairness, drive and efficiency. Academic Events Proud Moments In 2019, our priority is expansion. We are working on new academic programs, of IIT Patna looking to bring in more and more high visibility events, getting high value, high end projects, recruiting, expanding student base and so on. Simultaneously, we are also careful not to waste any resource- man, material and mechanism- and setting up a 11 12 very efficient financial and administrative system.
