By KRYSTAL HAWKINS

The 11th annual Brady-Kendall juried art show be- gan Thursday night Sept. 1 at the Columbus County Arts Council. The exhibit is held to commemorate two of the county’s most re-known artists of the time, Brady and Kendall. The contest hosted a variety of art- ists from Bladen, Pender, New Hanover and Robeson counties. All entries were displayed all along the walls and on pedestals. Ben Billinsley, a painter/print-maker from Wilm- ington, judged the works. The pictures are tradition- ally separated between two categories according to dimension. The best in show award went to South- eastern Community College Art Instructor, September Krueger, who made a silkscreen scarf titled “Annun- ciation.” First place for second category went to local artist Betty C. Gore for her painting “Mountain Scene.” Second place went to Curtis Krueger for a photogra- phy print of nature that he called “Live Oaks.” Third place second was given to Mark Bannerman with his collage titled “Village Pub.” First place in the third cat- egory went to another local artist, Leigh Fowler for her sculpture “Single Bloom.” Second place was awarded to Ron Cole for a shell like glass entitled “Goblet” and the third place award went to Bonnie Pierson for a knitted creation “Levi’s Bowl.” Honorable mentions went to Anna Lynch for a self-portrait named “Living In Oblivion,” Nicole Spaulding’s painting “Shadows” and Krystal Hawkins’ tempera piece, “Forget About It.” The exhibit will be open until Oct. 27. Everyone is invited to see the display at the arts council that will be open from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Betty C. Gore September Krueger
