They assembled boxes of food, produce and hygiene items for 400 local veterans, active-duty military members and their families. “This is the first time we’ve brought an event of this scale to HAFB,” said Emily Harrison, Utah Chapter Director of Blue Star Families. “It’s in partnership with the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes and an organization called Feed The Children. She works very hard.” Busk is the second person from the depart- ment to receive the award. Kaysville Police Assistant Chief Seth Ellington won two years ago. “We’re a small department,” Oberg said. “After he won I thought ‘no way we’re going to win again,’ but sure enough we did. I thought it was neat.” Ellington also wrote a letter of recommenda- tion to the IACP selection committee on Busk’s behalf. “Jessica may not be a police officer but she is no less deserving of the admiration and rec- ognition for her efforts in protecting and serving the city of Kaysville,” he said. “Jessica empowers us to be better and holds us accountable to help us improve. She has always been the glue that holds us together. She tackles the impossible each and every day and is a hero to our community’s heroes.” Busk was surprised and honored by the award. “It’s international, which is crazy,” she said. “I think there are way more deserving people than me in my civilian role. I enjoy the people I work with – it’s a great department.
