OC of SV Eintracht Frankenhain Ev OC of SV Eintracht Frankenhain e.V. A word of welcome A word of welcome from Head of the District Council, for Biathlon Alpen Cup in Oberhof Dear athletes, dear biathlon friends, fans and guests, From February 1 through Februrary 4, 2018, the Skiverein Eintracht Frankenhain e.V. is hosting the Deutschland-Pokal and the Alpen Cup for the junior biathletes. In addition to Martell, Hochfilzen and Pokljuka, we now also have competitions in Oberhof. This allows not only the best up-and-coming biathletes from Germany to participate but also high- performance athletes from the Alpine region. The Skiverein Eintract Frankenhain e.V. with its many volunteers has successfully hosted top- class competitions in the past. They have organized the Summer Biathlon Word Championships 2009 in Oberhof, the German and Thuringian Championships, the Nord Cup, and they support the Biathlon Word Cup that takes place in Oberhof every year in January. It makes me proud that a club from our Ilm-Kreis district accepts and masters these challenges. The Frankenhain skiing club impresses not only with its organizational skills, but also with world class achievements in sports. Among the athletic figureheads Erik Lesser and Luise Kummer, Philipp Horn und Erik Weick are aiming to follow in the footsteps of the Olympic gold medalist and biathlon world champion Katrin Apel, today the vice president of the club, and of the successful cross-country skier Jens Filbrich. I would like to express my appreciation and thanks to the Skiverein Eintracht Frankenhain e.V. and its club president Jens Hendriks, its head of section Thomas Heyer and the head of referees Mario Milde for the application and the excellent organization and execution of these high-class biathlon competitions. I wish all athletes, organizers, referees, volunteers as well as spectators and guests at the course exciting races, fair and successful competitions, fabulous winter weather and successful biathlon events. www.thats-thuringia.com That’s Thuringia. Ladies and Gentlemen, Thuringia is the region where successful collaboration between entrepreneurs and researchers goes back centuries. Looking to the future has been a long-standing tradition here. Just take Carl Zeiss, Ernst Abbe, and Otto Schott, who joined forces in Jena to lay the foundations for the modern optics industry and for a productive partnership between business and science. It’s a success story that the entrepreneurs and scientists in our Free State are continuing to write to this very day. And in the process, our producers and services providers can draw upon a multifaceted research environment which currently comprises no less than nine universities and universities of applied sciences, a total of 14 institutions run by the Fraunhofer, Leibniz, Max-Planck, and Helmholtz scientific societies, as well as eight research institutions with close ties to the economy. It’s the variety and the optimal mix of locational advantages that makes Thuringia so attractive for investors from all over the world. The central location of our Land at the heart of Germany will soon become even more of an advantage thanks to the new ICE high-speed train junction in Erfurt, which will significantly reduce travelling time to Berlin, Munich, and Frankfurt am Main. International companies seeking to locate to Thuringia can choose from our many top-notch industrial sites, which are situated along major highways and also include large-scale locations for those investors in need of more space. By now, Thuringia has surpassed Baden-Württem- berg as the Federal Land within Germany with the highest number of industrial operations per 100,000 inhabitants.

Thiry, B. A., M. A. ****** The Ohio State University 1970 Approved by Iviser Department of History PREFACE For those with professional interest in the Reforma tion era, Ferdinand of the House of Habsburg requires no special introduction here. As the younger and sole brother of Charles V, who was the Holy Roman Emperor of the German Nation in the first-half of the sixteenth century, Ferdi nand's place among the list of secular, notables of the pe riod is assured. Singled out in 1521 by his imperial brother to be the Archduke of Austria and to become his personal representative in Germany, attaining the kingships of Bohe mia and Hungary in 1526 and 1527 respectively, and designated, following his brother's abdication and retirement from pub lic life in 1556, to succeed him as emperor of Germany, Fer dinand could not help leaving behind him from such political heights indelible footprints upon the course of history. Yet, probably because of the fragmentation of Ferdi nand's energy into these many various channels of responsi bility and the presence of his illustrious brother, Charles V, and his fanatical nephew, Philip II of Spain, who both eclipsed his own place on the stage of history, Ferdinand's historical significance has been largely overlooked by IX posterity.
