MISSION STATEMENT The mission of Military Academy (MA) is to prepare leaders by providing a rigorous education grounded within a structured military environment.

CORE VALUES

______, ______, ______,….

MILITARY ACADEMY At MA, learn to practice the concepts of honor, integrity, and respect as they grow in their everyday lives on campus. They learn to accept responsibility for their successes and failures in the classroom, on the athletic fields, and in their military roles. Cadets are encouraged to develop their own individual strengths and talents while at the same time to respect the rights of others.

The school's philosophy is to develop the "whole person” so he/she is prepared not only academically, but also emotionally, physically, and morally, to face the trials and meet opportunities after leaving Military Academy. MA offers a unique blend of a high quality education and military principles. Hence, MA offers cadets structure, organization and self-discipline as well as a strong academics based around the school’s Academics, Military Program, Sports and Activities, and Community Service. Along with the rigorous academic, all students must participate in the school’s military program, be involved in sports or extracurricular activity and participate in community service.

MA’s preparatory curriculum provides an outstanding framework to help students. Cadets must participate in and meet state passing score requirements all State testing including the ACT, CRT, End of Course exams, and the military ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) assessments. Our Potential Achievement Rating (PAR) system challenges each student to see and attain measurable goals toward meeting MA expectations. These PAR goals are established by using past performance along with parental and student input and is updated three times a semester and reported through the PAR report. Students achieving their PAR are eligible for rank promotions and PAR privileges. This system serves as an incentive for cadets to reach their potential. To receive a diploma, cadets must also meet the following:  Pass all State required courses  Earn 1 JROTC credit each year enrolled at Military Academy  Document participation throughout each school year in sports and/or activities  Complete a portfolio and the portfolio exit interview  Meet passing scores on State required assessments and minimum ASVAB score  Must complete a minimum of 75 hours of community service over 4 years

Athletics and extracurricular activities are important for the overall well-being of our cadets. Through a full interscholastic, intramural program, and activities we encourage team effort and cooperation. These activities are the means by which character and teamwork are built. A rich and well balanced life includes a comprehensive athletic program that builds both a strong body and a student’s self- confidence carrying with it varying degrees of honor and responsibility representing MA and the cadet

Page 1 of 3 corps. The athletic program prepares students for a lifetime of physical fitness. Students must participate in sports and activities over the course of the school year. A student’s ability to compete/participate, however, is determined by their PAR, conduct status and grade point average.  All cadets must participate in morning drill  All cadets must participate in sports or activity throughout the year. Failure to meet these requirements will result in the Cadet being placed on conduct probation.  Cadets must maintain a 2.0 or better GPA and must be passing 70% of their classes to be eligible to participate in an interscholastic sporting competition.  All cadets will participate in sports practices and activities regardless of grades or GPA

The Academy provides each cadet with a number of athletic opportunities. The interscholastic sports offered are football, golf, tennis, cross country, soccer, basketball, wrestling, baseball, tennis, lacrosse, track and field. If the student does not make the school’s interscholastic sports team they have the opportunity to participate in intermural sports.

In addition to interscholastic and intermural sports, Military Academy offers an excellent activity program as part of the activity period if the Cadet is not involved in Interscholastic sports. Participation in an activity is required when a cadet is not involved in sports, which ensures the participation of all cadets. These options include SCUBA, cheer, speech and debate, drill or rifle team, marksmanship, and drama. The Cadet Challenge Program, the varsity rifle team, and the precision drill team are also supervised by the Military Department. Military training is unquestionably one of the great assets of .

The military program at Military Academy provides one of the most beneficial aspects of campus life. The student body is organized into a Corps of Cadets consisting of four companies. An assistant commandant is assigned to each company and closely supervises the activities and life of the cadets within his company. He monitors each cadet's academic progress, conduct, and overall development and is readily available to cadets seeking advice or counsel. Military Academy is NOT a boot camp. However, physical fitness is important. MA has mandatory morning PT (Physical Training) and/or drill each morning. Military training is valuable because it instills neatness, precision, promptness and self- control. It teaches cadets to take pride in the country. Self-confidence and success are inextricably related. Cadets learn to take orders before they are given the authority to give orders. Through this process, a cadet learns to take responsibility to fellow cadets for their own actions. As cadets develop, they are given more responsibility and more flexibility. As part of the military program, MA requires that all cadets participate in the JROTC program and attend classes in leadership development. Military Academy is designated as a Military Institute (MI) Junior Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) School. The JROTC program requires all cadets to participate in drill and ceremonies and to attend classes in leadership development. All cadets must participate in two formal physical fitness assessments per year based on military expectations and National standards. These include the Presidential Fitness Test and the school’s obstacle course completion.

Dress Code: Students must meet uniform standards on campus at all times. The Army Class “B” uniform is the uniform of the day, Monday through Friday. Pins, cords, medals placement must be in accordance with JROTC uniform policy including the earing of the appropriate uniforms, approved hair styles and grooming standards, jewelry, neatness etc.

Each cadet will be required to complete 75 hours of community service during their four years at the Academy. Cadets successfully completing the 75 hours and all related community service program requirements may earn a ½ credit elective in voluntary school/community service or in voluntary public service. A total of one credit may be earned through community service. Cadets may volunteer at a variety of organizations or activities; however, at no time may they receive pay for their efforts. Military Academy support, such as office help, cleanup projects, tutoring, etc., may also count as volunteer hours, but must be performed outside of normal school hours and approved by .

It is the cadet’s responsibility to keep a record of their community service hours. These hours must be documented on the appropriate form. Each year progress is reported. Once a cadet accumulates 75 hours or more, the form must be turned in to the Registrar’s Office. All JROTC related community service hours are on record with the Senior Army Instructor. Cadets should bring a copy of this record to the Registrar’s Office to ensure it is entered into their official records.
