40a. Expresses its concern at the fact that the recently reached provisional agreement on the Mobility Package I, particularly the requirement to return heavy vehicles to the Member State of establishment every eight weeks, contradicts both the purpose of the Commission’s initial legislative proposals to reduce negative environmental effects and the EU climate goals set out by the Commission in the new European Green Deal, including the objective of achieving a climate-neutral EU, as this requirement will result in a notable increase in the number of empty runs of trucks on European roads and, along with the restrictions imposed on cabotage operations, will subsequently result in a substantial increase in CO2 emissions, pollution and congestion from the transport sector; recalls that this requirement for the compulsory return of AM\1196497EN.docx PE643.464v01-00 } PE643.466v01-00 } PE643.467v01-00 } PE643.469v01-00 } RC1
