Many High Schools have a list of scholarships specific to their students. Don’t forget to send students to their school counseling office to inquire about local scholarships with applications available often in a “scholarship drawer” or folder.

 Hispanic College Institute  Current full-time Virginia high school sophomore (rising junior) or junior (rising senior) with a GPA 2.5 or above can participate in this program. The program provides clear and practical college application and financial aid information. It also offers students the opportunity to engage with successful Hispanic leaders and role models who will help inform them about career and educational opportunities. There are only 100 spaces available, so students should apply early. The program will take place at Virginia State University from July 16 until July 19, 2014.  This is a free informational seminar that will help you with the college application process and financial aid. If accepted, this is where you will compete for available scholarships. More information is available here: http://goo.gl/HiN7FF  The deadline to apply is March 24.  Network of Enterprising Women  This scholarship is available for any female student residing in: Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Hanover, Henrico, Hopewell, Goochland, New Kent, Petersburg, Powhatan, Prince George, and Richmond City. The recipient must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and above, demonstrated strong work ethic, and exhibited strong leadership characteristics.  Application and essay are required. The essay must be double spaced, 12 point font, and should not exceed 2 pages in length. Ten $1,000 scholarships are planned to be awarded.  Virginia Grain Producers Association Scholarship  This is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to a current or future full-time student as of fall 2014; the student must be enrolled at a Virginia institution of higher education. Applicants must be closely associated with members of the Virginia Grain Producers Association (VGPA), including: members (or dependents of a member) in good standing of the VGPA, or an active employee (or dependent of an active employee) who is employed for at least one year.  Required materials: your senior class photo, application, transcript, SAT/ACT scores, personal statement, and 2 reference letters. You may find the requirements and application here: http://goo.gl/6lLL9v  Application must be postmarked on or before April 1st.  The Henrico Retired School Personnel Association Scholarship  This scholarship of $1,500 minimum is for a Henrico County Public High School graduating senior pursuing a degree in education as a teacher or school-support professional. The recipient must attend an approved college the semester(s) immediately following his or her high school graduation, and must enroll for a minimum of 12 course hours per semester.  You must submit with your application the following: essay, official copy of your FAFSA form, an official transcript, and a list of your school activities, volunteer and paid work experience.  Application is due April 11th.  Junior Intern Program at the Children’s Museum of Richmond  This program is for any rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors in high school. The program is limited to 40 students and spans one summer and academic year from June 16, 2014 through May 17, 2015. The applicant must have a strong work ethic, evidence of a commitment to community service, ability to engage both young children and adults in play and learning.  Student who complete service hours and receive positive evaluations will be eligible for college scholarships: . 500 service hours= $1,000 CMoR Service Scholarship . 350 service hours= $500 CMoR Service Scholarship  Information and application are available at http://goo.gl/vh3ct6  The application deadline is April 15.  Kiwanis Club of Greater Richmond Scholarship  This scholarship is for high school seniors who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and above. Recipient must enroll in a 4-year institution as a full-time student in the fall semester immediately following high school graduation. The scholarship is for $5,000 paid annually in $1,250 installments.  Required with the application are: high school transcript with GPA and SAT scores, copy of SAR and EFC from the FAFSA, a personal statement, and at least 1 letter of recommendation from a school official.  You may find the requirements and the application at http://goo.gl/f9fysh  The application deadline is April 15.  Kids’ Change of Virginia Scholarship  This scholarship is for any high school senior whose parent was an injured worker and is a subject of a VA workers’' compensation case. In addition to the required scholarship application, the following are needed: transcript, SAR from the FAFSA, 2 letters of recommendation, brief description of the accident, first report of the injured parents as well as medical reports of the injured parent.  The application deadline is April 15.  The Mary Blackwell Memorial Scholarship  This scholarship is for female college or graduate level students attending an institution in VA or DC. Up to 5 recipients will be selected and the scholarship amounts will range from $1,000 to $5,000. The recipient must exhibit leadership skills through extracurricular activities and volunteer or work positions. The recipient must have an interest in pursuing a career in finance, government, nonprofits, or public law.  You may find the requirements and the application at http://goo.gl/6N4cjb  The application, transcript, and required essays must be received by no later than May 31st.  Lee-Jackson Scholarship  Any junior or senior in a Virginia public or private high school may apply. The student should not have received a Lee-Jackson scholarship in the past and must be a resident of Virginia who plans to attend an accredited four-year college or university in the United States as a full-time student. Students who intend to enroll in a community college must plan to enroll in the college transfer program of the community college. The contestant should demonstrate the natural ability to succeed in college and have a sincere desire to attend. Financial need is not a requirement. All Virginia high schools should have copies of the application, which includes writing an analytical essay about either Jackson or Lee. Deadline for applications to be submitted to the principal of your school is February 7th (changes every year-usually due in mid-February). Eighteen awards available that range from $1,000 to $10,000.  2013 NAFEPA Scholarship Program  The National Association of Federal Education Program Administrators (NAFEPA) will be awarding three $2,500.00 scholarships in March 2013. These scholarships are given to honor three NAFEPA members who have shown and provided exemplary leadership and dedication to the Association and the students the organization represents. Eligibility is open to high school seniors who are presently enrolled in a public school or high school graduates who are attending their first year of college. NAFEPA offers three different scholarships: applicant is pursuing a degree in Education; applicant is pursuing a degree other than Education and applicant is pursuing any degree. Hall Memorial Scholarship Program. Each year Virginia Credit Union recognizes outstanding student members of all ages through its Dorothy J. Hall Memorial Scholarship program. To be eligible for scholarships for the 2013-2014 school year, student applicants must: be a member of Virginia Credit Union (VACU), not just any credit union in Virginia; be the primary member of their own account (not just a joint owner on someone else’s account). Applicant's account must be in good standing, be a rising college freshman, sophomore, junior or senior who will be taking at least 9 credit hours per semester; be pursuing their first degree in an undergraduate or associate's degree program at an accredited college or university; have joined Virginia Credit Union by September 30, 2012. Students must attend to receive this award. Students must attend Mid-Atlantic Christian University in order to receive this scholarship. This scholarship has two award levels: . Level A: $10,000.00 . Level B: $15,000.00 • Level A: Is in the amount of $10,000 to be awarded each year to a limited number of graduating seniors from each high school or home school group who exhibit outstanding character and leadership. The scholarship will be allotted in increments of $1,250 each semester over a period of 4 years. Christian Character and Leadership-Minimum high school GPA of 2.5 to apply. • Level B: Is in the amount of $15,000 to be awarded each year to the two graduating seniors applying for the Christian Character and Leadership Scholarship who have the highest GPA of all the applicants from all of the high school or home school groups who applied for the Student of Distinction Scholarship. The scholarship will be allotted in increments of $1,875 each semester over a period of 4 years. . Criteria for the awards include evidence of Christian character, demonstrated leadership ability and a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0. Deadline is January 10  The Chesapeake District of Civitan International  The Chesapeake District of Civitan International is again offering scholarships to Virginia high school seniors. At the local level, the Greater Richmond Civitan Club is seeking applications from area high schools seniors to be considered for one of the several District awards. Consideration is based on academic, extra-curricular, and financial need (the decision emphasis is ultimately placed on financial need). Applications must include a FAFSA, one original official transcript, an autobiography and two recommendations. Applicants should read the scholarship guidelines and instructions very carefully. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The completed application package should be mailed to this address only: Greater Richmond Civitan Club Attn: Annual Scholarship P.O. Box 70357 Richmond, VA 23255. The application deadline is February 15th, 2013, so the package should be mailed no later than the first week of February. The local club will select two applications from those received from area high schools which will then be forwarded to the District committee for final selection. A submitted application does not guarantee an award and the decision of the District is final. Rogers Memorial Scholarship  Applications are available in the Career Center for the Hometown realty Lynn E. Rogers Memorial Scholarship. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required. This is a $1000 scholarship and is renewable. Deadline for the Lynn E. Rogers application to be returned to Mr. Szwajkowski in the Career Center is 2:00 PM March 19. (Atlee High School)  VIRGINIA SHERIFFS’ INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP  Eligibility: Students must live in a locality where the sheriff is a member of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute and has authorized the Institute to conduct a direct mail special appeal to raise funds for the scholarship program. Applications will be mailed from the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute office to the sheriffs’ offices by January 31. Applications can also be found on the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute’s website. The address is www.vasheriffsinstitute.org. Applications must be received in the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute office by May 1. Postmarks will not be accepted, however faxes will be. The deadline will be adhered to. Two types of scholarships will be awarded, one to full-time students and one to part-time students. All the scholarship awards to students will be consistent, i.e. all check amounts will be the same, depending on the type. Only the majors in the criminal justice field will qualify for a scholarship. Those majoring in law or pursuing a career as a lawyer will not be considered a criminal justice major. Only students accepted to Virginia colleges and universities will be considered. Past recipients may not reapply.  GE- Reagan Scholarship Program  Each year, the Program selects numerous recipients to receive a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to an additional three years – up to $40,000 total per recipient. Awards are for undergraduate study only, and may be used for education-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, and board. In addition, Scholars are invited to participate in a special awards program.  To be eligible for this award, applicants must: . demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship; . demonstrate strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent); . demonstrate financial need; . be citizens of the United States of America; . be high school seniors attending high school in the United States and graduating in winter 2013 or spring 2014; and . plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study toward a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States for the entire 2013-2014 academic year.  In addition, semifinalists must be nominated by an eligible community leader, such as a high school principal, elected official or executive director of a nonprofit organization, and must provide documentation to certify academic performance and financial need. Since 2003, the BBB had offered this scholarship program which honors area “Students of Integrity.”  These scholarships are designed to recognize and promote ethics and integrity among young people. The BBB will award scholarships to graduating high school seniors who personify all of the best aspects of high character in their personal choices and actions.  Scholarships are given to college-bound high school seniors who reside within this BBB’s 32 county service area. A portion of the dollars raised for this program will be distributed to local Dollars for Scholars chapters and used as matching money to raise funds for a similar local scholarship program based on this exact scholarship model. Currently, most of the chapters only provide smaller, one-time scholarships that support college access, but do not continue beyond a student’s first year of school.  The first Dream Awards will be given out in Spring 2014 for the 2014-15 school year. Bell Scholarship Program - University of Michigan  A trust fund to help forward the careers of students pursuing degrees in engineering or science at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. The scholarship support is based on academic accomplishments rather than financial need. The scholarship program will provide up to $80,000 over four years of undergraduate study to students selected from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Interested students may be eligible for a paid overnight trip to visit the University of Michigan campus. The trip will include airfare for the student and one parent/guardian and hotel room for one night. The program has evolved into a dynamic partnership between Komen and students who serve in their communities, sharing Komen's message of breast cancer awareness and raising funds while pursuing their baccalaureate degrees. The award is a generous scholarship of $10,000 a year for up to four years to attend a state university in pursuit of a baccalaureate degree. Scholarship recipients are selected based on scholastic achievement, community service, financial need and demonstrated leadership potential.  Eligibility . Rufus B. and Evelyn Easter Music Scholarship Eligible on a talent and need U n iversity offers music scholarships to qualified students. Music scholarships are not designed to pay all of the expenditures for attending Hampton University, but to help defray some of those expenditures. First-time scholarship awards are based primarily on the performance ability of the student. Subsequent awards are based on the student's musical growth, commitment to the field of music, and demonstrated performance ability.  Qualifying for a Music Scholarship .  Coca-Cola Scholars Program  Students applying to this program should be high school seniors who carry a 3.0 GPA at the end of their junior year of high school. Applications are accepted from August to October 31st of a student’s senior year.  PROGRAM OVERVIEW . 1. Seniors in high schools throughout the United States who meet the eligibility requirements may apply each year for one of 250 four-year, achievement-based scholarships. . 2. The Scholarship Committee will announce the scholarship winners at the May 2013 Richmond Chapter meeting.  William & Mary Mason School of Business 2013 Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award Nomination  Nominees for this award must be (1) a student currently enrolled in high school, college or graduate school and (2) successful in the development of a business and/or able to demonstrate a viable business plan. Nominees should demonstrate innovation in business, product, service, or ideas. Nominees should articulate how they have overcome obstacles and responded to adversity on their journey to success as well as how they expect to succeed in and grow the described business. The Student Entrepreneur of the Year will be awarded $2,000 in scholarship money.  Additional Criteria: . Nominee must be a female student currently enrolled in high school, college or graduate school. Both full-time and half-time students are eligible, but in order to qualify for this award, a half-time student must be taking a minimum half-load of courses as defined by her institution. . Nominee must reside and/or attend school in the Metro Richmond area (City of Richmond, Tri-Cities and surrounding counties). .
