Inzwischen sind bereits 40 CD's erschienen mit Aufnahmen von Furtwängler und Fricsay, von Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau u. v. a. Die jüngste Produktion dieser Reihe "The Early RIAS-Recordings" enthält bisher unveröffentlichte Aufnahmen von Friedrich Gulda, die zwischen 1950 und 1959 entstanden. Die Einspielungen von Beethoven, Debussy, Ravel und Chopin zeigen den jungen Pianisten an der Schwelle zu internationalem Ruhm. Die Meinung unserer Musikkritiker: Eine repräsentative Auswahl bisher unveröffentlichter Aufnahmen, die aber bereits alle Namen enthält, die für Guldas späteres Repertoire bedeutend werden sollten: Mozart, Beethoven, Debussy, Ravel, Chopin. -

FESTIVAL TICINO DOC dal 19 al 26 settembre 2010 Musica nel Mendrisiotto DOC è l’acronimo che sottintende la “denominazione di origine controllata” di un prodotto e che ne certifica la zona di origine, il rispetto della Mendrisio tradizione realizzativa e – in buona sostanza – l’oggettiva qualità. Ma Lugano Rancate un simile marchio di valore è da concedersi soltanto a vini, formaggi e salamelle? Questa è la domanda che si sono posti Musica nel Mendrisiotto, la RSI Rete Due e l’Orchestra della Svizzera italiana. La risposta, manco a dirlo, è stata negativa. E a testimoniarlo saranno sette giorni di musica, dal 19 Ligornetto al 26 settembre prossimi, che porteranno nei vari quartieri della nuova Superstrada Mendrisio il meglio dei giovani interpreti cantonali dell’ambito classico. Others used the medium as an outlet for fun and lighthearted entertainment. The music was traditionally performed in homes. The Flagler name has long been associated with great music, as Henry and Mary Lily Flagler frequently hosted musical performances in Whitehall’s elaborate Music Room. The Flagler Museum Music Series captures the spirit of traditional chamber music, and welcomes world renowned performers to the finest chamber music venue in South Florida. Here, performers and visitors can experience chamber music as it was intended in a gracious and intimate setting. Due to its intimate nature, chamber music has been described as “the music of friends.” Consequently it is frowned upon to use stages and amplifying devices. The audio devices you will see tonight record the performance for national public radio broadcast and archival purposes. -

The Inspiration behind Compositions for Clarinetist Frederick Thurston. Doctor of Musical Arts (Performance), August 2018, 86 pp., references, 51 titles. Frederick Thurston was a prominent British clarinet performer and teacher in the first half of the 20th century. Due to the brevity of his life and the impact of two world wars, Thurston’s legacy is often overlooked among clarinetists in the United States. Thurston’s playing inspired 19 composers to write 22 solo and chamber works for him, none of which he personally commissioned. The purpose of this document is to provide a comprehensive biography of Thurston’s career as clarinet performer and teacher with a complete bibliography of compositions written for him. With biographical knowledge and access to the few extant recordings of Thurston’s playing, clarinetists may gain a fuller understanding of Thurston’s ideal clarinet sound and musical ideas. These resources are necessary in order to recognize the qualities about his playing that inspired composers to write for him and to perform these works with the composers’ inspiration in mind. Despite the vast list of works written for and dedicated to Thurston, clarinet players in the United States are not familiar with many of these works, and available resources do not include a complete listing.
