Seven women have returned to Uganda so far this week after the Ugandan Embassy in Saudi Arabia intervened when they left their employers complaining about abuse and mistreatment and moved into Saudi detention centres waiting to go home. Sheikh Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu, the Ugandan ambassador to Saudi Arabia, said the women were staying at a shelter operated by the Saudi Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. The Ugandan government last week announced a ban on sending housemaids to Saudi Arabia after a barrage of com- plaints about workers being treated inhumanely and said the ban would remain until working conditions were “deemed fitting”. Ssemuddu said about 24 Ugandan women were at the shel- ter, some needing paperwork and airline tickets after complain- ing they had been held as slaves and their passports taken away. “We are in daily contact with them and efforts are underway to have the rest of the women return home in the coming few days,” he told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.     Battle for Qusair raises threat of Syria partition Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has lost control of northern and southern Syria and is focused on a strategic corridor linking the Mediterranean coast to Damascus. Will this accelerate the fragmentation of Syria? More than two years after the conflict began, Syria today is totally transformed. While experts discuss the threat of partition, on the ground, Syria is effectively a divided country. "What the country is experiencing today is in fact a real partition - even if it’s not official," said Syrian anthropologist Randa Kassis – who is also a member of the opposition Syrian National Council – in an interview with a French radio station. “The Kurdish area (in the north) enjoys partial autonomy. The (western) coastal zone and the heart of Damascus is under regime control, and if we go south, in the Druze areas, the situation is ambiguous." Fabrice Balanche, a Syria expert at the Lyon-based thinktank Gremmo (Groupe de recherches et d’études sur la Méditerranée et le Moyen Orient) notes that northern and southern Syria have effectively been divided since July 2012 with the fall of the northern province of Raqqa. ‘Liberated’ north slips from regime control Over the past few months, northern Syria has not been under President Bashar al Assad’s control and is considered "liberated territory" by the rebels. Almost all border crossings with Turkey fell to opposition control during the spring and summer of 2012. Rebel fighters, who have long used Turkey as a rear base, are now able to move weapons, supplies and fighters – including jihadists - to the combat zones in Syria, including the commercial capital of Aleppo.

Pursuant to the results of the research, most entities - in the studies sample - agree t hat there is a link between the Syrian crisis and the appearance of Mahdi. Still, there is disagreement about explaining the verbal and non - verbal signs. People gave significations for many signifiers such as analyzing the figures of those who took part in the war, their clothes, flags, colors and the names of the places. There is a strong belief that destruction, war and corruption will inevitably go on until the appearance of Mahdi. Hadiths which dealt with the topic of Mahdi were employed by the religiou s entities in the following contexts: enticing people to take part in the war and intimidating them of not doing so, encouraging them to be patient and to carry on fighting, and boosting their morale. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, speaking after the rebels had briefly seized two border crossings and massacred the soldiers manning the posts, said that cooperation with the armed rebels should increase. Iraqi Deputy Interior Minister Adnan al Assadi told the media that the Turkey-based Free Syrian Army (FSA) “executed 22 Syrian soldiers in front of the eyes of Iraqi soldiers” after they briefly overran a border post at Abu Kamal, in eastern Syria, close to Iraq, in the third week of July. The Iraqi government has obviously drawn a parallel with what is happening across its borders to the recent terror attacks in Iraq. Many of the Iraqi “jehadis” have transformed themselves into Syrian freedom fighters. July became one of the bloodiest months for Syria as the foreign-backed armed groups made a concerted attempt to further destabilise the government led by Bashar al Assad. The terror attack on July 18, which claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dawoud Rahja and three senior officials (Assef Shawkat, deputy head of the Syrian Army and brother-in-law of Bashar al Assad; Hassan Turkmani, Chief of Crisis Operations; and Hisham Bakhtiar, head of Intelligence) who were in the forefront of the security drive to clear the armed groups from their strongholds, was indeed a serious blow to the government.
