LIST 3. HEADINGS THAT NEED TO BE CHANGED FROM THE MACHINE- CONVERTED FORM The data dictionary for the machine conversion of subject headings was prepared in summer 2000 based on the systematic romanization of Wade-Giles terms in existing subject headings identified as eligible for conversion before detailed examination of the headings could take place. When investigation of each heading was subsequently undertaken, it was discovered that some headings needed to be revised to forms that differed from the forms that had been given in the data dictionary. This occurred most frequently when older headings no longer conformed to current policy, or in the case of geographic headings, when conflicts were discovered using current geographic reference sources, for example, the listing of more than one river or mountain by the same name in China. Approximately 14% of the subject headings in the pinyin conversion project were revised differently than their machine- converted forms. To aid in bibliographic file maintenance, the following list of those headings is provided. On the other hand there is an ever-increasing awareness that the correct management of the cultural heritage requires that the importance of reliable graphic documentation be recognized; such documentation can be used for elaborating further analyses and for designing conservation projects. This paper presents the results of practical work carried out during the Topography/Surveying and surveying methodology/Survey au- tomation course held in the 2005-2006 academic year at the Faculty of Architecture of the Turin Polytechnic. This work consisted in the metrical survey of the facades of the Valentino Castle at Turin. The castle therefore, not only hosted the classrooms where theoretical lessons were held but also provided the material for practical experience. 1. Morphology may be defined as the science of structure or form "and fluvial may be defined as produced by the action of flowing water." Since rivers can hardly be said to have structure, fluvial morphology is therefore, the science of the form as produced by the action of flowing water. It is a branch of geomorphology, the science of the form of the earth's surface. Geomorphology has also been called physiography. Fluvial morphology is particularly important to the hydraulic engineering because many of his greatest problems arise because of the form of streams brought about by the transportation and deposition of sediment by them. For the proper solution of these problems, knowledge of the principles of fluvial morphology is often necessary. Among the problems in which fluvial morphology is a very important factor are many of those dealing with water resources development and include some of the most important river problems in the world. Among these is flood control on the Ganga, Brahmaputra, Mahanadi, Krishna, Godavari, Periyar, Kaveri, Sutlaj, Narmada, Kosi, Tawa and Chambal (India), lower Mississippi and lower Colorado Rivers (USA). The development of the Hydraulic resources all over the world are ensured and commissioned. The Yellow and Huai River flood problems are solved by China. As streams become highly developed, and changes in sediment movement due to stream developments slowly become evident, the importance of the morphological aspect of river control problems will be increasingly appreciated.
