Patrick Snow, Book – Creating Your Own Destiny
Praise for Creating Your Own Destiny: “More Americans put families ahead of work. Family is important to Patrick Snow. He is a speaker, coach and author of Creating Your Own Destiny. Employees used to be willing to sacrifice because of things like stock options. Now they’re fed up. They realize that family is the only stabilizing force in today’s turbulent economy. Making time for family isn’t just important for a few employees like Snow—it’s a growing priority for many workers disillusioned by layoffs, corporate scandal, and waning corporate loyalty. Seventy percent of employees don’t think there is a healthy balance between work and personal life.” USA TODAY Cover story “When Patrick Snow, a consultant in Bainbridge Island, WA, decided to leave a corporate sales job he called three friends for advice. ‘The employee handbook was good for a general overview, but it failed to answer some specific questions,’ said Mr. Snow who left to start his own professional speaking business. ‘Lucky for me, the information my buddies gave me enabled me to plan my exit strategy perfectly.’” The New York Times “Patrick Snow’s Creating Your Own Destiny is the most energetic and inspiring book written on fulfilling your dreams and finding true happiness in life. I do not doubt that it will be a classic in the field of self-help beside Think and Grow Rich and The Power of Positive Thinking.” Tyler Tichelaar www.SuperiorBookPromotions.com “I am constantly looking for books that are well-written, resonate with our coaching approach of life-work balance, and that I can recommend to our clients. -

Deadness Technologies of the Intermundane Jason Stanyek and Benjamin Piekut
Deadness Technologies of the Intermundane Jason Stanyek and Benjamin Piekut Figure 1. A meeting of mouths, from Natalie Cole, Unforgettable, directed by Steve Barron. New York: Elektra Video, 1991. (Screen shot by Jason Stanyek and Benjamin Piekut) In late capitalism, the dead are highly productive. Of course, all capital is dead labor, but the dead also generate capital in collaboration with the living. What is “late” about late capitalism could be the new arrangements of interpenetration between worlds of living and dead, arrange- ments that might best be termed intermundane. As Joseph Roach writes, “modernity itself might be understood as a new way of handling (and thinking about) the dead,” but the mechanisms and procedures through which this handling takes place are under constant revision (1996:14). While Roach is concerned with mapping “a revolutionary spatial paradigm: the segregation of the dead from the living” (48) in early modern Europe and its colonies, we are interested in a later arrangement of bio- and necroworlds, one centered on production of several kinds: social, economic, cultural, and affective. In this arrangement, the living do not one-sidedly handle the dead, but participate in an inter-handling, a mutually effective co-laboring. TDR: The Drama Review 54:1 (T205) Spring 2010. ©2010 14 New York University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology “Death isn’t the end,” remarks Mark Roesler, the CEO of CMG Worldwide, an intellectual property management company that plays an important role in the growing field of “necro- marketing” (in Hoffman 2005).1 In what could be seen as a case of millennial anxiety over the reconfiguration of labor in a burgeoning necro market, Forbes in 2001 began publishing their annual list of “Top Earning Dead Celebrities,” which for the past seven years has been fleshed out by a barely rotating cast of actors, writers, artists, and musicians: Marilyn Monroe, Charles Schultz, J.R.R. -
This Week the Beatles Anthology, Coming Soon to a TV Set Near You, Is Unlikely to Unleash a New Wave of Beatlemania
E IN RADIO OCTOBER 2 This Week The Beatles Anthology, coming soon to a TV set near you, is unlikely to unleash a new wave of Beatlemania. But for :hose of us old and lucky enough to have been caught up in that British Invasion of '64, it'll be a nice revisit to those times, espec ally with Capitol's release of the first two of six CDs of Beatles rari- ties. For those who missed out on the Beatles in their prime, this is their best shot at the full story. And for the companies involved in the production- Apple Corps, Inc., ABC-TV, and Capitol/EMI-it's a big -backs bonanza. They are taking no chances, how- ever. As we report inside, the total cost of the market- ing of Anthology will be around $20 million. Our package, put together by our managing editor, Ben Fong -Torres, gives you a head start on all the hype, and includes revisits with Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Yoko Ono; with Top 40 at the height of the craziness, and with Dave Rothstein, a Gavin staffer who's not ashamed that, at 40 -something, he's still a Beatlemaniac. In News, Danny Goldberg (top) takes the helm at Mercury Records. Pearl Jam tops a poll of music executives; Entertairment Weekly offers its own power poll, and music loses Blind Melon's Shannon Hoon (mid- dle).
