I MOVE that the Transportation Committee report relative to the status of the City's efforts on the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) reauthorization, Item #13C on today's Council Agenda (C.F. 08-1862) BE AMENDED, to adopt the attached resolution and revised City of SAFETEA-LU Reauthorization project list.

WHEREAS, any official position ofthe City of Los Angeles with respect to legislation, rules, regulations or policies proposed to or pending before a local, state or federal governmental body or agency must have first been adopted in the form of a Resolution by the City Council with the concurrence of the Mayor; and

WHEREAS, the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) authorized the Federal surface transportation programs for highways, highway safety and transit for 2005-2009 and expires on September 30, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Congress has begun preparations to authorize a new surface transportation bill to replace SAFETEA-LU; and

WHEREAS, Members of Congress are being given an opportunity to submit "High Priority Projects" (HPP) for possible inclusion in the legislation; and

WHEREAS, it is imperative that the City submit proposals for HPP funding to ensure that Los Angeles is a full partners in the development of future federal transportation improvements;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, with the concurrence of the Mayor, that by adoption of this Resolution, the City of Los Angeles hereby includes in its 2009-2010 Federal Legislative Program, support for the attached list of City of Los Angeles transportation infrastructure projects for submission to Congress as "High Priority Projects" during the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) reauthorization process.
