Registered Charity The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres Founded in 1957 by Swami Vishnudevananda, we are a non-profit organization whose purpose is to share the teachings of Yoga and Vedanta as a means of achieving physical, mental and spiritual well-being and attaining self-realization. The Centre in Toronto was established in 1962 and is part of The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres.

Swami Sivananda (1887 - 1963) One of the great sages of modern times, Swami Sivananda is the inspiration behind our organization. His aim in life was the dissemination of spiritual knowledge. His motto was: “Serve, Love, Give, Purify, Meditate, Realize.”

Swami Vishnudevananda (1927 - 1993) Founder of the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres, Swami Vishnudevananda was a world authority on Hatha and . Swamiji was also known as the “Flying Swami” for the different peace missions he pursued around the world. His motto was: “Health is wealth, peace of mind is happiness, Yoga shows the way.” We are all volunteers: Teachers, staff and helpers. All of our teachers have completed the Sivananda Yoga Teachers’ Training Course, recognized by the , and have a minimum certification of RYT-200. All teachers, helpers and full-time staff members in the organization are working on a vol- unteer basis. (selfless service) is acknowledged as a means to inner purifica- tion, elimination of the ego and spiritual growth. All talents are welcome. TEACHING YOGA TO CHILDREN AND TEENS WITH SARASWATI

This course gives yoga teachers guidelines for teaching yoga to children and teens, as well as practical tools they can use to adapt yoga practices to their needs. The course is based on the teachings of Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Organization and Swami Vishnu-devananda’s 5 Basic Points of Yoga. ASANA CORRECTIONS IN DEPTH WITH PRAHLADA

Often, new yoga teachers struggle with how to correct students. In this course you will gain confidence in assisting and correcting students in their practice gently, effectively, and with integrity. The course is good learning opportunity for yoga teachers who wish to gain confidence and accuracy with the physical hand-on corrections of the twelve basic asanas, as well as several advanced asana corrections. We will also cover the various reasons for correcting students, how to determine if a correction is required and when it may be better to leave a student alone.

About the Teacher: The course will be taught by Prahlada, a Yoga Acharya and senior teacher of the worldwide Sivananda Yoga Vedanta organization.He has taught for over thirty three years and has helped train over twelve thousand teachers at the many Sivananda ashrams and yoga centers around the world. YOGA RETREATS Each June and November is our Weekend Getaway Yoga Retreat. They are held at the Mansfield Outdoor Centre, outside of Barrie, 1 1/2 hours north of Toronto, Ontario. TEACHER TRAINING COURSE (TTC) The TTC is a unique, profoundly transforming personal experience based on the ancient gu- rukula teaching system which integrates the student’s daily life into the yoga training. For four intense weeks of ashram living, students strengthen their own yoga practice through self-discipline and awareness of the nature of mind, body and spirit while building a firm foun- dation from which to teach others instinctively and confidently. It is a fantastic opportunity to awaken or deepen your yoga practice, meet old and new friends, and to be a part of the growing global yoga community. Graduates of the course receive internationally recognized certification that is also accepted by the worldwide Yoga Alliance for the 200 hours standard for Registered Yoga Schools (RYS).

YOGA VACATION : FEEL RECHARGED AND RESTORE YOUR ENERGY Swami Vishundevanada developed the ‘Yoga Vacation’ program in 1962 with the intention of creating space, time and distance from one’s regular schedule. This has been achieved by integrating the practices and philosophy of Yoga in the Ashram structured routine. The engagement to the daily practices develops one’s spiritual practice, allowing one to gain greater peace in life and understanding of oneself. Yoga Vacation is available all year round for any required amount of time. The daily schedule has been designed to enable time for complete rest and inner renewal. Through two Yoga classes, consisting of the physical postures, breathing exercises and relaxation, two nutritious wholesome vegetarian meals, mediation sessions, devotional chanting and spiritual teachings.
