™ MOREH ‐ TAMU ‐ RAIL CONNECTIVITY INDIA –MYANMAR ‐ THAILAND TRILATERAL HIGHWAY

™ Establishment of a 1360 kms long Trilateral Highway from Moreh (India)/ Tamu (Myanmar) to Myyyawaddy ((yMyanmar)/ Mae Sot (()Thailand) via Myanmar was agreed by the three Governments in April 2002.

™ The India‐Myanmar and Thailand Joint Task Force on Trilateral Highway met in New Delhi on September 10‐11, 2012. It was agreed to work towards completion of the Trilateral Connectivity by 2016. TRILATERAL HIGHWAY

MYAWADDY/MAE-SOT ALIGNMENT OF TRILATERAL HIGHWAY

The initial route of Trilateral Highway was through Bagan. India prepared the Detailed Project Report for Chaungma‐Lyngdoh (73 km) section in mid‐ 2012. The original alignment was: Moreh (India) ‐ Tamu (Myanmar) ‐ Kalewa – Chaungma ‐ Meiktila by pass – Taungoo – Oktwin – Payagyi – Thaton – Hpa’an – Myawaddy (Myanmar) ‐ Mae Sot (Thailand)

Route through : During visit of the Union Minister of the Ministry of Construction of Myanmar to India in February 2012, Myanmar proposed an alternate alignment of the Trilateral Highway and requested India to undertake construction of the road between Kalewa ‐ Yagyi section (120 kms), which was agreed. The new alignment is: Moreh (India) – Tamu (Myanmar) ‐ Kalewa ‐ Chaungma ‐ ‐Mandalay ‐ Meiktila bypass ‐ Taungoo ‐ Oktwin ‐ Payagyi ‐ Theinzayat ‐ Thaton ‐ Hpa’an ‐ Kawkareik ‐ Myawaddy (Myanmar)/ Mae Sot (Thailand) INDIA’S COMMITMENT Government of India’s contribution to the Trilateral Higgyhway is in the form of: •Section I: Tamu ‐ Kalewa ‐ Kalemyo Road (160 kms) ‐ Intermediate lane road was built in 2001; India agreed for maintenance of road for 6 years before handing over. •Construction of double lane specification 71 Bridges in the Tamu‐Kalewa‐Kalemyo •Section II: Double lane specification road in Kalewa ‐ Yagyi road section (120 kms) Section I: Tamu ‐ Kalewa Road (Length ‐ 160 kms)

Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has completed upgradation of 132 kms of the Tamu‐Kalewa Road and handed over to Myanmar in 2009. Remaining 28 kms, which require either rebuilding or strengthening work is being undertaken. TAMU ‐ KALEWA ROAD AFTER RESURFACING

8 Upgradation of 70 Bridges on the Tamu – Kalewa Road

• India’ sassistance towardsconstructi/ion/ upgradidation of the71bidbridges on Tamu‐ Kalewa‐Kalemyo Road segment was announced during the visit of the Prime Minister to Myanmar in May 2012.

• A RFP for appointment of consultant for preparation of Feasibility Report has been issued and the Feasibility Report is to be prepared in the current working season. Section – II: Kalewa – Yagyi Road (Length‐ 120 km)

™ India agreed for construction of 120 km Kalewa ‐ Yagyi road section during the visit of the Prime Minister of India to Myanmar in May 2012.

™ Process has been initiated for preparation of a Feasibility Report on the Project.

™ Implementation of the project would be undertaken through EPC mode.
