On August 18th, West Lakes MVP Families, visited the Orlando Museum of Art for a story-tour of the Florida Prize of Contemporary Art winners! Professor and guest artist, Ya La’ford, engaged families with an art project of their own, coloring hopeful messages on stones to be fi lled in a glass bowl for children with terminal illness. Ya talked about the power of contemporary art while inside an installation of her own! Many families from the new Pendana Apartments had an opportunity to connect with existing West Lakes families during their few hours together looking at everything from a collection of braided lamps to fl oating Volkswagens. The odd and interesting objects provoked deeper conversations about life and were something for the whole family to enjoy! Associate museum curator, Coralie Claeysen-Gleyzon, organized a scavenger hunt for the youth with a prize incentive to locate diff erent items in the various galleries. The neighborhood trip was a great way to close the kids fi rst week back at school for the 2018-2019 year, and a good warm up for West Lakes MVP Families September 10th meeting at Frontline Outreach Center. ■
