GAME RECAP – C OF I 3, EVERGREEN 0: Kylie Porter had a match high 14 kills leading the C of I to a 25-19, 25-19, 28-26 victory Friday night over the Evergreen State College inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center. The Lady Yotes won for the eighth time in nine matches, remaining unbeaten at home all-time against the Geoducks. Evergreen scored the first four points of the match, including back-to-back Jaclyn Trinque aces, but the hosts used a 12-3 surge – including two kills each from Porter and Janessa Koelliker (Kaysville, Utah / Salt Lake CC), to take command of the set. C of I trailed 8-7 in Set 2, but two Koelliker kills and a pair of spikes from Emily Ottinger helped the Yotes rattle off seven straight points to grab the two sets to none lead. The Geoducks fought hard in Set 3, rallying from a 19-16 deficit behind three Nicole Diehl kills, to earn set point at 24-22. A pair of Porter kills got the Yotes even, with back-to-back ESC errors ending the match. Porter had just two hitting errors in 20 swings, with her .600 attack percentage the best of the season for the Yotes. Ottinger had 12 kills, with Bailee Kendall (Mount Pleasant, Utah / Salt Lake CC) adding eight kills and Koelliker five. Setter Sierra Porter had a three-set season-high of 43 assists and five kills, with Kilee Lopez leading C of I with 18 digs. Nicole Pittelkau led the Geoducks with 12 kills, with Diehl adding 11 kills and two blocks. Trinque had 35 assists and Natimia Barker-Doss had 18 digs.

GAME RECAP – C OF I 3, NORTHWEST 2: A near triple-double by Sierra Porter fueled a big C of I rally, as the Lady Yotes battled back from a two-set deficit to defeat Northwest University on Saturday night, 17-25, 21-25, 25-13, 25-14, 15-11 inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center. It wasn't easy; however, as the Eagles dominated the opening two sets and were poised for their first win in Caldwell since 2005 – forcing 18 C of I hitting errors in the first two frames. In Set 1, a 6-0 surge – helped by two Rae Ann Hastings kills and two Leia Roy aces – erased an 11-10 C of I lead, as NU cruised to the win. The Eagles never trailed in Set 2, as a Hastings kill broke a 12-12 tie, with a Mattie Joe Johnson kill and block extended the visitors lead to 21-15, a margin they would not relinquish. C of I found their rhythm in Set 3, using a 9-2 push early in the frame to grab a 10-5 lead and never looke d back. Another big run in Set 4, as the Yotes scored 13-of-15 points to open up a 19-10 lead to force the winner-take-all run to 15. Two Emily Ottinger kills gave the Yotes an 8-5 lead at the change-over, but a Roy ace got NU back within a point. However, two Ottinger kills and two smashes by Kylie Porter closed out the victory for C of I. Sierra Porter had nine kills, 44 assists, 20 digs, and six blocks for the Yotes, with Kylie Porter adding 17 kills and a team-high seven blocks. Ottinger had 14 kills and four blocks, while five C of I players had 10-or-more digs, led by 22 from Kilee Lopez. Dakota Adams led NU with 12 kills, with Hastings adding 11 kills and two blocks and Johnson recording nine kills and six blocks. Setter Morgan Pilon had 26 assists and Roy had 22 digs in the loss.

GAME RECAP – CORBAN 2, C OF I 0: Arsinio Walker scored a pair of first half goals and the Corban University defense did the rest, as the Warriors recorded their fifth-straight shutout, a 2-0 Friday afternoon victory over the C of I at Warrior Field. The Warriors limited C of I to just one shot on goal on the afternoon, as Steven Mason logged the shutout win. Corban jumped on the board in the ninth minute, as James Williamson played a long throw-in into the area, with Walker one-timing a shot off the hand of C of I keeper Grant Billings for a 1-0 lead. In the 25th minute, Walker struck again, playing a touch from Nathaniel Chaney to his left boot, bending a shot into the left corner of the net. C of I tried to battle back in the second half, but all six shots taken were off frame. The hosts held a 17-7 edge in total shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.

GAME RECAP – NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN 1, C OF I 0: A first half penalty kick was all Northwest Christian needed, as the Beacons handed the C of I their fourth- straight loss, a 1-0 decision at Mike Kelly Field. In the 32nd minute, the Beacons Sergio Maldonado was fouled on a run in the box, with Angel Sandoval tucking the resulting penalty kick into the lower left corner of the net for the only tally of the game. The Yotes threatened in the second half, putting three shots on frame, but Bren Bletscher of NCU saved each of the chances to pick up his second shutout of the season. NCU held a 15-12 edge in shots, while the Yotes were unable to convert on eight corner kick chances. Grant Billings made four saves in the loss for C of I.

ABOUT THE COACH: Thom Baker is in his second season as the head men's soccer coach at the C of I and has an all-time record of 11-21. He led the Yotes to a berth in the CCC Championships in 2013, with his squad finishing with a 6-13 overall record. Baker returned to the C of I after 12 seasons as a local high school coach at both Vallivue and Bishop Kelly High Schools. At Vallivue High, his squads posted a 96-48-12 overall record and five trips to the state tournament, including second-place finishes in both 2001 and 2002. In his final three seasons at BKHS, his clubs posted a 35-21-7 record, including a second-place finish in the 2010 4A state tournament. A 1995 graduate of The C of I, Baker played from 1990-93 under longtime head coach John Calpin, and played alongside current C of I Director of Soccer, Brian Smith.
