YOTE NOTES – October 30, 2014 C of I Director of Athletic Communications – Mike Safford Jr. (208) 459-5681 [email protected] SPORTS RELEASE ATHLETIC NEWS: This Week’s Event Schedule 31 STUDENT-ATHLETES HONORED BY CCC: This week, a total of 31 College of Idaho fall sport student-athletes were honored as Academic All-Cascade Conference 10/30 WBB at Montana Tech 4 p.m. selections. Those selected were at least a sophomore in academic standing and have 10/31 MBB vs. Walla Walla (at EOU) 3 p.m. PT maintained a 3.20 cumulative GPA at the College. Recipients include 10 women’s MSOC at Warner Pacific 3 p.m. PT soccer players (Bri Blair, Allie Boyd, Reilly Coyle, Camas Curran, Taylor Fowers, Summer Jackson, Aurora Ostolasa, Aimee Pierson, Lauren Polito, Sydney Woods); 10 men’s WBB at Rocky Mountain 7 p.m. soccer players (Jorge Brambila, Stearne Briem, Joao Cardoso, John French, John Fronk, VB vs. Southern Oregon 7 p.m. Ryan Geist, Tyler Lawton, Cristian Sanchez, Brandon Smith, Chanse Ward); five 11/1 GOLF at Walla Walla Invite 10 a.m. PT women’s cross country runners (Rachel Hamre, Emily Hawgood, Ruth Lewinski, Lila FB at Montana Western Noon Klopfenstein, Kristin Niemi); three men’s cross country runners (Camden DeBruler, MSOC at Concordia 1 p.m. PT Matt Goodwin, Dylan Walker); and three volleyball players (Emilee Chapman, Katy MBB vs. Portland Bible (EOU) 3 p.m. PT Robinson, Liz Trenkel). A total of 255 players were honored by the CCC. VB vs. Oregon Tech 5 p.m. WOODS NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT: College of Idaho defender Sydney Woods 11/2 GOLF at Walla Walla Invite 10 a.m. PT was honored Wednesday as a member of the Capital One College Division Academic 11/4 MSOC vs. Corban 3 p.m. All-District 4 Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. 11/5 WSOC vs. Warner Pacific 2 p.m. The junior, from Meridian, was one of 11 members of the District 4 team – encompassing NAIA, junior college, and Canadian collegiate schools from Canada, Upcoming Events along with the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. 11/7 WBB vs. Montana Western (SLC) 1 p.m. Players are selected for both their athletic and academic prowess – as Woods is MBB (EOU vs. Walla Walla) 2 p.m. among the top defensive players for the Lady Yotes. Woods, a two-time Cascade MBB vs. Arizona Christian 7 p.m. Conference All-Academic Team selection, and will be one of 44 nominees for the Capital One College Division Academic All-America Team. The District 4 team includes VB at Corban 7 p.m. PT defenders Allie Preston (Oklahoma Baptist), Shea Davis (Biola), Erika Thompson (Our 11/8 XC at CCC Championships 10:30 a.m. PT Lady of the Lake), Sydney Woods (C of I); forwards Teegan Luckemeyer (Our Lady of WBB at Westminster 11 a.m. the Lake), Christine Adams (Westmont), Marta Venegas (Oklahoma Baptist), Katherine FB vs. Eastern Oregon Noon Teinert (Wayland Baptist); midfielders Miranda Starbeck (Biola), Annika Hayman MBB (EOU vs. Arizona Christian) 5 p.m. (Concordia-Portland), Tamara Roughead (British Columbia), Haley Reiser (Wayland Baptist), and keeper Emma Beck (Oklahoma Baptist). VB at Northwest Christian 5 p.m. PT MBB vs. Walla Walla 7 p.m. CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS HOLD IN TOP-25 POLLS: Both C of I cross country teams held WSOC at CCC Semifinal (with win) TBD pat in their respective positions in the latest NAIA Top-25 Coaches’ Polls, released on 11/11 MBB vs. Northwest Nazarene 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. The Lady Yotes remained at No. 14, while the Coyote men were ranked 11/21 SWIM at Lewis & Clark 6 p.m. PT No. 16. Both teams have the weekend off, preparing for next weekend’s CCC Championships in Portland. Complete coverage of the event will be in next week’s Yote Notes. GOLF CLOSES OUT FALL SEASON: The C of I golf team will close out the fall portion of the season this weekend at the Walla Walla Invitational at Wine Country Golf Club in Washington. Tailgating begins at 8 a.m. (four hours prior to kickoff). 12/20 NAIA FCS (Final) TBA HOME GAMES IN BOLD CAPS MOST WINS SINCE: With four victories this season, it is the most wins by a Coyote team since * Frontier Conference Game 1974, when C of I finished the year 4-5. The Yotes have not had a winning season since 1969, as C of I ended the campaign with a 5-4 record. The 11 games on C of I’s schedule is the most in program history – as the Yotes played 10 games in a season in 1935, 1941, 1946, 1948, Frontier Conference Standings 1955, 1957, 1958, and 1960. School Frontier Overall FANS FLOCKING TO SIMPLOT STADIUM: Three games into the 2014 season and the Coyotes Southern Oregon 6-1 7-1 continue to draw well at the gate, averaging 4,451 fans per game – among the top attended Carroll 6-1 6-1 games in the NAIA. C of I has two crowds (vs. Montana Western and MSU-Northern) that were Eastern Oregon 4-3 5-3 larger than two crowds at Idaho State this season and would rank No. 16 (of 242) among NCAA Division III teams, No. 43 (of 170) in the NCAA Division II, and No. 94 (of 130) amongst NCAA Rocky Mountain 4-3 5-3 FCS teams (ahead of Big Sky schools Northern Colorado and Southern Utah). Montana Western 4-4 4-5 College of Idaho 3-4 4-4 TOUGH LOSS TO SOUTHERN (ENDS HOME WIN STREAK): Last Saturday, the Yotes ran into a Montana State-Northern 1-6 2-6 buzz saw in the form of No. 7 ranked Southern Oregon, as the Raiders used a 42-point first half Montana Tech 1-7 1-7 en route to a 66-16 victory over C of I. The losses ended a five-game home win streak, dating back to the 1977 season. Prior to the three home victories in 2014 (Montana Western, Montana Tech, MSU-Northern), C of I won their last two home games in 1977 (29-20 over Last Week’s Scores Whitworth and 24-23 over Pacific), with the last loss coming Oct.
