A part ofthe National Schools of Excellence Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Educa tion, the program identifies and honors unusually suc cessful public schools throughout our state. It is not a ranking of the best schools in Georgia, but an attempt to recognize outstanding programs from all of the state's districts. It is possible for 30 schools to be named Georgia Schools of Excellence each year: one elementary, one middle or junior high and one high school from each of Georgia's 10 congressional districts.* The national program rotates the elementary and secondary levels from year to year; elementary schools were honored nationally in 1988. (Middle and junior high schools are honored every year.) Georgia's state and national schools of excellence follow. (National Schools of Excellence are designated by a star to the left of the school name.) *Georgia schools may not be named Schools of Excel lence in consecutive years. 7 1986 Elementary Schools * Burroughs-Molette Elementary ............
