  • A Combined Record of St George's Church
A Combined Record of St George’s Church Monumental Inscriptions and the Register of Graves Many of the headstones and monuments at St George’s church were removed during the 1970’s under “Operation Clean-up”. Prior to these works being undertaken in the churchyard a record of the Monumental Inscriptions was made by Pauline Phillips, the first female Curate of St George’s church. Pauline’s typed work is the only record of the monumental inscriptions that once were inscribed on the now lost headstones and monuments formerly at St George’s. Pauline’s work was painstakingly undertaken before the technological revolution that gave us the Internet, Home Computers, and Digital Camera’s. Forty years later, in the later part of the 2010’s, Kathryn Young digitally photographed every remaining headstone and monument at St George’s. Kathryn then uploaded the photographs, and their monumental inscriptions, onto the free to access, no membership required web site “Find A Grave”. These photographs and monumental inscriptions can now be found at: https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2551941/st.-george-parish-churchyard this web site is searchable by name. Inside St George’s church are many stained glass windows, prayer desks, and other items that hold a memorial to someone buried at St George’s church, but who do not have a remaining headstone or monument. For these people a memorial to them has been created on the Find A Grave web site by Rita Vaughan. Pauline’s original work has now been reproduced, in 2020, in digital form, by Rita Vaughan, and this e-format now allows for searching and sharing.
