COMING TO CAMPUS BY METRO The closest Metro station is the Tenleytown-AU stop on the Red line. From the station, you can take the AU shuttle that is located on the corner of 40th St. NW and Ablemarle St. NW, in front of the Whole Foods. The shuttle buses run from campus at 6:10am (M-F; 8:00am Sat-Sun) to until the Metro closes (12:15am Sun-Th; 3:15am Fri-Sat). For seasonal hours, check our AU Shuttle app, Rider. For seasonal Metro hours, check the WMATA app, DC Metro and Bus.
When using the Metro for the first time, you will need to purchase a Metro SmartTrip card. Metro cards are $10, with $8 already pre-loaded on the card, and are available at any Metro station. You can reload your Metro card at the entrance of any Metro station or on any of the Metro busses. If you are a full-time student, you will receive a UPass that allows you unlimited access to the Metro and Metro buses. These cards will be available for pickup during Welcome Week.
BY CAR Our main campus is located at 4400 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20016. Guest parking in available in the Katzen Arts Center and the School of International Service’s parking garages.
GUEST PARKING When driving to campus, a valid permit or Pay-As-You-Go is required Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. The Pay-As-You-Go Machines, located in the elevator lobbies of each building, accept cash and major credit cards. If you have a guest parking code, be sure you type in the code when prompted by the Pay-As-You-Go Machines. Parking is free over the weekends and after 5:00pm on weekdays.
TRAVELING TO CAMPUS FROM RONALD REAGAN WASHINGTON NATIONAL AIRPORT (DCA) TAXI: A variety of taxicab companies serve Reagan National Airport. There is a taxi dispatcher at each terminal to assist passengers.
METRO: Make your way through the airport to the Metro platform, located between terminals B & C. Take the Yellow line train towards Fort Totten, or the Blue line train towards Largo Town Center. Transfer from the Yellow line to the Red line at Gallery Place/Chinatown, or transfer from the Blue line to the Red line at Metro Center. Take the Red line train towards Shady Grove to reach the Tenleytown-AU station, then take the AU shuttle from the Metro station to campus.
TRAVELING TO CAMPUS FROM WASHINGTON DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (IAD) TAXI: Taxi services from the Dulles airport is provided exclusively by Washington Flyer Taxi.
SUPER SHUTTLE: Group van service is provided by Super Shuttle "blue vans." Vans are shared and each person in the van is taken to their destination.
BUS TO METRO: Washington Flyer Silver Line Express provides bus service from Dulles Airport to the Wiehle- Reston East station. From the Wiehle-Reston East station, take the Silver line train towards Largo Town Center, then transfer to the Red line at Metro Center. Take the Red line train towards Shady Grove to reach the Tenleytown-AU station, then take the AU shuttle from the Metro station to campus.
TRAVELING TO CAMPUS FROM BALTIMORE WASHINGTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (BWI)
TAXI: The BWI Airport taxi stand is located just outside the baggage claim area of the Lower Level Terminal.
SUPER SHUTTLE: Group van service is provided by Super Shuttle "blue vans." Vans are shared and each person in the van is taken to their destination.
BUS TO METRO: The BWI Express Metro Bus B30 runs from BWI airport to the Greenbelt station. From the Greenbelt station, take the Green line train towards Branch Ave station, then transfer to the Red line at the Gallery Place/Chinatown. Take the Red line train towards Shady Grove to reach the Tenleytown-AU station, then take the AU shuttle from the Metro station to campus.
