6 White Wines

Contemporary

This selection of vibrant and zippy whites are great apéritif wines, but work just as well paired with olives, shellfish and seafood. They all boast mouth-puckering acidity that’s beautifully balanced by citrus and stone fruit and a big splash of freshness. The Framingham Sauvignon Blanc offers added grassy and tropical notes, while there’s some real stony, mineral character in the Touraine. An upfront and fresh selection.

Verdejo / Sauvignon, Campo Flores (Spain) 2017 £25 Winbirri Bacchus Reserve, English Dry White (Norfolk, England) 2018 £30 Picpoul de Pinet, Château de la Mirande (France) 2017 £30 Pecorino, Poggio Anima (Italy) £32 Touraine Sauvignon, “Printemps”, Domaine de la Rochette (, France) 2017 £32 Framingham Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough, New Zealand) 2017 £43 A blood connection between Ben Du Brow (the owner of this village) and the owners of The Conders Bend Vineyard, Rex and PJ, was discovered unexpectedly when they visited Framingham Pigot on holiday. They called upon Ben and Jane to see the family seat. The reason for naming their Marlborough Wines ‘Framingham’, was that knowing of his ancestry Rex wanted to immortalise its memory on the other side of the world. Brasted’s House Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough, New Zealand) 2018 £26

Classic

This old world selection of white wines offers classic styles from world-famous varieties. These are all classic varieties in their own right and demonstrate the typicity of the grape and region. All are great food wines, and will pair equally well with grilled fish, salads and charcuterie.

Established

These wines all hail from the cradle of established . Some are bold, fleshy and aromatic, such as the Gewurztraminer, while the White Burgundies are clean, pure and linear. Like these wines he was a true classic: Robust, full-bodied, elegant, colourful, well-structured, full of character and an irreplaceable Bon Viveur...

Bordeaux tasting notes!

Arguably the most renowned wines on earth, the classed growths of Bordeaux continue to epitomise the power and complexity Bordeaux blends are capable of. While most wines here are based on Cabernet Sauvignon, both Merlot and Cabernet Franc play important roles in adding layered complexity to the finished wines, and allow winemakers in each commune within the region to use the blend that is best suited to their unique combination of soil and meso-climate. The most famous communes each have their own classic traits with St. Estephe giving full, if rustic, wines from the heavy clay soils; to Paulliac’s elegant balance of ripe fruits, minerality and structure; to St. Julien’s rich blackberry core and supple feel. Moving to the South of the region brings one to Margaux, with its notes of flowers and berries draped over a feminine frame, and then to the region with wines redolent of tobacco, gravel and smoke. To the East lie the much-loved, famous appellations of St. Emilion and Pomerol where Merlot rules the roost and produces deep, plush wines of uncommon refinement and great pedigree.

12 ‘In the Pink’ Rosé

Think pink and embrace the rosé revolution because pink wines are incredibly versatile. They are crisp and fresh and are perfect as an aperitif wine but also a great match for seafood, summer salads and summer berry puddings.

Château d’Ollières (Provence, France) £39 Winbirri Reserve English Pinot Noir Rosé (Norfolk, England) £30 Glass (175ml) £8 Zinfandel Rosé, Stallion Leap (USA) £25

Pudding Wines There’s nothing like a sweet wine to round-off a meal and whether you’re finishing with a cheese plate or a pudding, there’s something here that fits the bill. From France we propose two amazing wines: a classic Monbazillac that is honeyed and luscious without being at all cloying, alternatively a port-style red Banyuls that is simply fabulous with all things ‘chocolatey’. For something a little lighter, our gentle, sparkling Moscato is really fresh and very easy on the palate, simply delicious with lighter, summery desserts.

Monbazillac, Domaine del’Ancienne Cure (France) 2015 (375ml) £28 Banyuls, Rimage, Clos Les Paulilles (France) 2015 (500ml) £42 Moscato, Lumine, Caˊ de Gal 5% (Italy) 2018 (750ml) £45

16 En Magnum

Reds Château Calon Segur, St. Estephe Grand Cru (Bordeaux) 2000 £399 Plum / purple colour along with gorgeous aromas of creosote intermixed with spring flowers, black cherries, cassis, liquorice, and stony, liquid minerals. Powerful, tannic and full-bodied wine.

Château des Annereaux, Lalande de Pomerol (Bordeaux) 2004 £136 From the heart of the appellation. Rich, full and long, a plush and opulent merlot-dominant red with a dash of fragrant cabernet franc. Described by Decanter magazine as “an essential discovery for any claret lover.”

Bourgogne Rouge, Domaine Montanet-Thoden (Burgundy) 2010 £141 A sip of it is a veritable autumnal walk through the woods – you’ll find earth, wild cherries, and “trompette de la mort” mushrooms in there.

Marchesi Frescobaldi, Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva (Tuscany, Italy) 2011/12 £90 Vibrant personality full of wild berry, cherry and violet notes underpinned with spicy aromas; aged for two years in one and two year old oak barrels, then matured in bottle for a further three months before release.

Ondarre, Rioja Reserva Magnums (Spain) 2010 £64 With leather and spice of traditionally made Rioja on the nose. Smooth and subtle on the palate, with strawberries and hints of vanilla. Aged for sixteen months in French and American oak.

Rioja Reserve Gavanza (Spain) 2011 £88 Tempranillo is such an alluring grape, in this wine giving attractive aromas of cherries, coffee beans and a hint of vanilla. Full-bodied and generous with the depth and elegance that comes from maturing in magnum.

Rioja Reserva, Castillo Ygay (Spain) 2004 £299 This classic Rioja from a great vintage, and exemplifies everything that makes Rioja so appealing: silky, cherry fruit, underpinned by a kind of spicy earth note that suggests the Spanish terrain.

Château Musar, Red Bekaa Valley (Lebanon) 2008 £160 Unique, Lebanese wine. Top quality luxury in a glass. A wine to keep, but why wait? Enjoy with any rich meaty dish or on its own to spoil yourself.
