Dear Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, I am William Nicholas Gomes, a Bangladeshi citizen, Human Rights Activist and Journalist. I am writing to share my concern about the Shahbag Square protest, which is a real travesty of Justice. The protest is a part of continuous mockery of justice which had started by forming the controversial International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) by your government. The controversial ICT had already got media fame for its monkey trials. I do and will continue my support for a successful legal and judicial process that is fair and impartial to bring to justice those responsible for serious human rights abuses in 1971.I oppose the death penalty in all circumstances as an inherently cruel and unusual form of punishment and a violation of fundamental human rights.

Earlier on January 2013, ICT by a monkey trail has sentenced Abul Kalam Azad to death by hanging. I share my concern that the trial did not meet all the criteria of a fair trial and due process. On another monkey trial on February 5, 2013, the ICT sentenced Abdul Quader Mollah, a leader of Jamaat to life imprisonment. Later on so called blogger activists by the direct facilitation, protection and promotion of your government are protesting for the death penalty of Abdul Quader Mollah.

Your government did not washed her hand by forming a monkey tribunal and performing monkey trials, where real monkeys are the judges and the victim is justice. The ICT had successfully done several miscarriages of justice. You and your government had celebrated on that.Shahbag Square protest is a continuation of the process, where your government wants to wash down the existence of rule of law and justice from Bangladesh. I want let you know that Shahbag Square protest is a real travesty of Justice.

Nirobey, a documentary film, unearths violations of rights of the workers in some non- government organisations those are vocal on various human rights issues.Through a bitter experience of an NGO worker at her office, JannatulFerdous Ivy‟s docu-film reveals the hypocrisy of such organizations.

Nirobey [Silently] was premiered on Friday at the New Wave Film and Television Institute (NEWFTI). Its story, script and direction are done by Ivy. The film features Hasi, a rural woman who struggles after the death of her father. She gets a job in a local NGO as a field worker. With a high hope she comes in Dhaka and joins in a greater NGO, which works on disability issue.

Initially Hasi passes a happy life in the capital city and marries a lawyer. She gives all her efforts to serve her organisation. But, overstress leads to her miscarriage. And the whole scenario completely changes very soon. She cannot concentrate much on her works. As a result, the organisation, which is vocal on rights issue, replaces the woman by a fresher. Nothing happens except for a protest by her coworker Madhobi, who considers the management decision injustice to an unfortunate woman.

„It‟s true that NGOs are playing important and appreciable role on rights issues in the society, however, workers in such organisations observe that their rights are not protected. Tender voice mingled with the mass protests at Shahbagh Square as schoolchildren and college students joined the rally in their thousands on Monday to express their solidarity with the demand for capital punishment for the war criminals of 1971. The seventh day of the unrelenting protest passed with a request from the demonstrators to the people across the country to observe a three-minute silence from 4:00pm today to press home their demand for death penalty to Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Molla and all other war criminals. Apart from the schoolchildren and college students, heroes of the 1952 language movement turned up at the square to express their solidarity with the popular protests spearheaded by youths. The unprecedented protests have spread to other parts of the country, including Chittagong, Rajshahi, Barisal, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Sherpur, Kishoreganj, Sylhet, Chandpur, Brahmanbaria, Bandarban, Dinajpur, Moulvibazar, Sunamganj, Comilla, Satkhira, Khulna, Kushtia, Gazipur and Bogra.

A large number of schoolchildren left their classes and thronged the Shahbagh Square to raise their tender voice. Many came to the protest venue in small and large processions in school uniform and some with their teachers and parents. Students of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, Notre Dame College, Holy Cross School and College, University Laboratory School and College, Udayan School, Wills Little Flower School, Dhanmondi Government Boys High School, Bir Shreshtha Munshi Abdur Rauf Rifles College and Dhaka Commerce College, Siddheswari Girls High School, Dania College and other institutions marched to the venue in processions.

Students of Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Jagannath University, Dhaka Medical College, Eden Girls‘ College, Dhaka City College, Ideal College, East West University, University of Liberal Arts, Bangladesh Medical College also joined the rally. They shouted slogans such as ‗Phanshi, phanshi, phanshi chai, Quader Mollar phanshi chai‘ (Hang Quader Molla), ‗Ka‘ tey Quader Molla –Tui razakar, (‗Ka‘ for Quader Molla, you collaborator)‘ and ‗Ga‘ tey Ghulam Azam, Tui razakar‘ (‗Ga‘ for Ghulam Azam, you collaborator),‘ ‗Apaser rai mani na, manbo na (We won‘t accept the verdict of compromise),‘ and ‗Apaser parinam Bangla habey Pakistan (Compromise will turn Bangladesh into Pakistan).‘

Razwanul Haq, a Notre Dame College student, told New Age that he had skipped classes to join the protests. ‗I have never joined rallies or processions before. But this movement has inspired me to express my solidarity.‘ Many young people like him, who joined a protest rally for the first time in their life on the day, raised their voice for death penalty to the war criminals. Tusher Ahmed, a student of class IV at University Laboratory School and College, came to the venue with his parents wearing a headband reading ‗hang war criminals‘. ‗It is the responsibility of the parents to infuse the spirit of the liberation war in their children and make them aware of the glorious sacrifice of the martyrs of the war of independence of 1971,‘ said Tusher‘s mother Rawshan Ara.

Language movement hero Abdul Matin joined the rally in a wheelchair to express his solidarity, accompanied by another language movement hero Mirza Mazharul Islam, actress Aupee Karim, Rabindra Sangeet singer Mita Haq, Mount Everest climbers MA Muhith and Nishat Majumder and others. ‗The struggle continues … I urge everyone to stay on here until victory is achieved,‘ Matin said. A group of protesters hung a list of organisations linked to Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir and urged all to boycott them. The protesters carrying national flag, banner and festoons marched in small processions, screened films on the independence war, painted road stretches, staged street plays and sang patriotic songs. Many people stood in queues to sign a long piece of white cloth extending their support to the protests. A group of young journalists also began a mass signature campaign. The Dhaka University Film Society screened several films on the war of independence on a big screen the organisation has set up at the square. A concert was held at Shahbagh at night. Meanwhile, Lucky Akter, a frontline activist at the Shahbagh protests, who was attacked and injured by Chhatra League activists on the night of Sunday, joined the rally at around 8:00pm Monday. A lane between BIRDEM Hospital and Matsya Bhaban was opened to traffic in the morning but as the day rolled on, people streaming in blocked it again after 3:00pm, DMP Ramna zone deputy commissioner Nurul Islam Khan said. Young people also held similar protests at Mirpur 10, Kafrul, Sobhanbagh, Mohammadpur, Shanir Akhdra and Uttara demanding death penalty for Quader Molla. Protests spilled over to the campuses like Chittagong University, Rajshahi University, Khulna University, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology in Gazipur and Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College in Bogra. IN CASE it slipped our mind, it is the month of February, and there is resolute chanting of streams of young Bangladeshis in Shahbagh. Around the corner, the thunderous voice of a by- gone time still vibrates in the ethers of the Suhrawardy Udyan to be heard again, and the mighty wavelets from the long-ago unfurling of a red-green-yellow flag still ripple in the corridors of a historic campus to palpitate a beleaguered nation, lost for a direction, mired in contradictions and confusions. It was then a war of liberation from the oppressive intruders; it is now a jihad of emancipation from dilapidated politics and governance. Back in 1971, the nation had a crystal clear purpose etched in blood dating back to 1952, namely, sanctity of life and liberty (in all senses of the term, linguistic, cultural, political, economic, religious, etc) for the 75 million people and their future generations. It was to be a country with unfettered freedom of expression, exalted human rights, thriving representative democracy, symphonious communal discourse and equitable economic opportunities for all. It was to be the Sonar Bangla, the melodious abode on earth, all Bengalis will be proud to claim as their domicile and/or emotional home. It was this dream home that the red-green-yellow flag of 1971 embodied, the freedom fighters made the ultimate sacrifice for, and the untold millions saluted with Joy Bangla greeting the hail of bullets, the blade of bayonet, the pain of diabolic mutilation, the agony of uncouth violation and the darkness of captivity. Alas, over the next 40-plus years, the red of the red-green-yellow flag became littered with the blood of the country‘s once cherished leaders, decorated war heroes and countless ordinary citizens, caught in vicious wrangles of governance power, escalating turf wars, and ever- increasing crime and violence against ordinary citizens across the land, despicably including children, women and minority members. Even the shine of the miraculous economic achievements failed to claim the glow of the dream home, the boisterous land full of life and liberty blooming in all their dimensions was never to be. While the red-green-yellow flag was changed to the current red and green only flag in 1972 for purely pragmatic reason (the map of the country in yellow was not easy to copy truthfully), the departed glow of the life and liberty of 1972 would never return over the next 40 years. Compared to 1971-72, the country is richer, more literate and healthier, more connected internally and to the external world, amenities abound, basic physical needs are no more an issue, and yes, the Bangladesh Tigers have become a world-class cricket team. Why is the country then in a worse state than in 1971-72 in most other dimensions? Unlike the experience of our neighbour and ancestor India, and other Asian and western democratic states, why the rising physical standards in Bangladesh are not accompanied by improving human rights and freedom of expression, lesser violence (political and general) and more pervasive rule of law, unbiased, expedient and efficient delivery of justice for all, maturity in political and parliamentary discourse, non-corrupt, accountable and transparent governance for all of citizenship (not just for party followers), and marginalisation of ultra-extremist (religious, socio-economic) political forces? While myriads of explanations may and do exist, the single most consequential reason is moral bankruptcy of the major political parties. It is this slippery slope that led to the total loss of trust and confidence of the mass in the words and actions of the parties, in position or in opposition. People are gathering en masse at the Shahbagh Mor believing that the Quader Molla verdict is unjust. Given that the war crime activities of the indicted war criminals were so widely known (like common knowledge), there are three probable reasons for the verdict to be unjust: (a) failure of the government prosecution to provide sufficiently convincing evidence, (b) pitfalls in the special amendment under which the crimes are being prosecuted, and (c) the trials (amendment and prosecution) and the verdicts are rigged/manipulated. Note that in any case, the unjust verdict reflects the failure of the ruling regime to deliver long-awaited justice for the victims of 1971. If the reasons are (a) and/or (b), the injustice might be unintended, although it still borders an incredulous scenario of government inefficiency. The reason (c), on the other hand, means that the efforts of the government are less than genuine in obtaining befitting punishment for the heinous crimes. The fact that this is happening under the watch of the historic party that led the liberation war is rather troubling, justice denied now will perhaps never be served again, and this is what finally enraged the ordinary citizens enough to congregate at the Shahbag Mor. To understand the culminating outrage, it is worthwhile to cite a few instances that represent years of contradictions, confusions, deceptions and betrayals by the major political parties. The historic party that led the liberation war once formed political alliance with many of the same collaborators that it is now prosecuting. The party that was established by a legendary freedom fighter is now allied with the same very organisations whose political aspirations could not be farther from the ideals of the liberation war. Time and again, the parties promised to make the judiciary independent of the executive branch of the government, but have consistently reneged once in power. Worse, law enforcement and judiciary have been used by whichever party is in power as an extended arm of the party itself, vigorously harassing and punishing the opposition and non-political critiques including the media and the civil society. Repeatedly, the leading parties have supported the transitional caretaker government system for conducting elections, but only to vehemently oppose the same system when in power. With the leading parties in power alternatively, Bangladesh has become a country that proudly proclaims to be secular and to disavow extreme religious fundamentalism, but continues to retain the majority religion as the official religion in the constitution, and continues to rely on huge amounts of grant, finance (to oil its economic machine) and wage remittance from some of the most fundamentalist countries on earth. It has become a country that risks dismantling vital economic relationship with long-term development partners on the basis of a differential interpretation of what constitutes a graft crime, that cannot build a $3 billion vital infrastructure (Padma Bridge) but signs a $1 billion arms deal and a $2 billion nuclear plant deal with a country with the most disastrous nuclear incident. Bangladesh has become a country that tries to displace its only Nobel laureate from a Nobel winning institution using little used rules, that continues to allow the creation of more private banks, and yet it connives for more government control of the most acclaimed banking institution when governance failures at its large nationalised banks have permitted massive banking frauds. Under the leadership of the leading political parties, Bangladesh has become a country where convicted murderers are pardoned and convicted criminals are escorted from jail. At the same time, the murderers of ordinary citizens like Sagar-Runi, and countless others remain untraced long after the brutal crimes, many citizens disappear without a trace, many innocent girls are raped without severe penalty for the perpetrators, and minority victims like those in Ramu keep waiting for the real culprits to be indicted. Bangladesh is a country where violent political activists roam the streets with impunity and even when there is decisive evidence, as in the case of Bishwajit murder, the authorities routinely dare to deflect party association and responsibility that unpardonably slows down the wheels of justice for the hapless families of the non-descript victims. Last, but not least, it is paradoxical of the highest order that the war crimes tribunal has handed out capital punishment to a defendant, Abul Kalam Azad, who is absent (it is unfathomable how this defendant escaped from Bangladesh to Pakistan, reportedly) and life sentence to a defendant, Quader Molla, who is in custody. In summary, the people of Bangladesh have every reason to be sceptical about anything their ruling and opposition parties say or do. In pursuit of petty political expediency and convenience, the leading political parties and their alliance partners have lost their credibility all together to speak on behalf of the people. Unlike 1971-72, the interests and aspirations of the political parties have drifted fatally apart from those of the people. The instruments of blame game, threats of unspecified conspiracies, and the mechanics of rotating governance through contradiction, confusion and deception, all of it needs to end, and could be nearing the end if the Shahbagh protest is not hijacked by the political machineries like all the other times before. The protests cannot, however, afford to veer off or be politicised into the agenda of the political parties that wish to eliminate legitimate freedom of expression and political association for citizens who believe in an active role of religion in state governance. Not only that is unconstitutional, it also defeats the 1971 ideals of the promised land of liberty, in all senses of the term, for all Bangladeshis. The widely shared and cherished end of keeping away religion-based governance from the seats of power must not be achieved by the fascist means of banning religion-based political organisations. After all, if these parties are to be banned because of the violence committed by their activists, then by the same argument, the major parties and their student organisations should have been banned a long time ago. For the Shahbagh Mor cause to remain viable as the cause of justice for the victims of 1971, it is imperative that the foundation and the greater cause remain the ideals of the liberation war. To conclude, the Shahbagh rise of February 2013, ‗The 2/13‘, is easy to be interpreted as a spontaneous emotional protest against a single verdict and/or a single group (the religious right). But deep down, it is the struggle of an effectively disenfranchised people to regain its long-lost franchise and to reclaim the spirit of the red-green-yellow flag and eventually the promised land of 1971. KIGALI, Rwanda — Hundreds of Rwandans on Monday marched to the offices of the United Nations tribunal set up to try key cases related to Rwanda‘s 1994 genocide to protest the court‘s decision to acquit two former cabinet ministers accused of masterminding killings.

The protesters, bearing placards denouncing the Arusha, Tanzania-based International Criminal Tribunal of Rwanda (ICTR), mainly constituted of survivors of the genocide, youths and students who accused the tribunal of denying justice to genocide victims.

―The international community failed in their response to protect the Tutsi from being killed and now it is failing to provide justice to survivors,‖ one of the banners read. More than 500,000 ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed during Rwanda‘s 1994 genocide. The genocide tribunal has been trying leaders of the killings for several years. Monday‘s march, which was organized by the Association of Genocide Survivors IBUKA, voiced opposition to the decision by the tribunal‘s appeals chamber to acquit Justin Mugenzi, a former minister of commerce, and Prosper Mugiraneza, who was the minister of public service when the killings erupted. The two were originally sentenced to 30 years but their sentences were overturned.

―We implore the ICTR to stop disrespecting the survivors of the genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi. IBUKA stands against any judge who disrespects the survivors,‖ said the president of the group, Jean Pierre Dusingizemungu. ―The ICTR receives an annual budget of $250 million annually but regardless of this, the court has failed to deliver justice as it would have. Clearing the two former ministers of any wrong doing is tantamount to genocide denial,‖

Photoshopped pictures, fake captions, doctored contents swarm social media; culprits abuse it for inciting fanaticism, running propaganda against war crimes trial, and for character assassination Changing the Gilaf (cover) of Holy Kaaba is a traditional ceremony in Makkah and, as in every year, it was held with due religious solemnity in October last. Many photos of this event are found across the cyber world. A Bangla site posted one such picture, but with the caption: “The imam of the Holy Kaaba here vouches for Sayedee‟s good character.” Delawar Hossain Sayedee, nayeb-e-ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has recently been sentenced to death for involvement in genocide and other crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971. In January, the same photo, showing eminent personalities attending the Makkah ceremony, popped up in a social network site. This time, there was a news report that read: “A human chain led by the khatib of Holy Kaaba protests the war crimes trial in Bangladesh.” Click here for more pictures The news item was posted in a Facebook page purported to be of a Bangla daily. Similar stories were found in three newspapers known to be supporters or mouthpieces of the BNP, Jamaat and other Islamist groups. One of the dailies after publishing this news in its print edition removed the item from its website without running a correction. The website of another daily used the news item only to remove it later with apology to its readers. Another newspaper took no step after running it in its print and web versions. “Any information that is not accurate definitely has a negative impact on the mind of a person who is receiving it,” Professor Shamim F Karim, an expert on human psychology, told The Daily Star. “When we get wrong information, we form our beliefs and attitudes on the basis of the information that is not accurate.” After the February 15 murder of blogger Ahmed Rajib Haidar, some quarters, especially radical Islamists, through online propaganda tried not only to justify the killing but also label the Shahbagh movement as “anti-Islamic”. It was reported in the media how a fake blog with anti-Islam content was made to go viral in the name of Rajib, also an architect and Shahbagh activist, to malign the movement. When some right-wing newspapers took up this line of propaganda whipping up religious sentiments, fanatics unleashed terror across the country. Citing the Code of Conduct 1993 (2002 as amended) for the newspapers and journalists, Bangladesh Press Council Chairman Justice BK Das said that unconfirmed reports or reports based on rumours shall be verified before publication and no report of an event can be distorted to influence readers. Any aggrieved person or group directly involved with the news published in a newspaper can lodge a complaint with the press council, he added. Last year, as the government declined to accept anymore Rohingya refugees from Myanmar, an online campaign against Bangladesh began using misleading captions and fake photos of atrocities on Rohingyas. Some local newspapers in Cox‟s Bazar ran some of those photos, adding to tension and confusion among the people there.

The Facebook post that described the ceremony of changing Gilaf-e-Kaaba as a demonstration against war crimes trial had referred to a report published in a Bangla daily on January 6. On December 3 last year, another newspaper published a picture of a rally in Turkey, saying over a hundred thousand people in Kadikoy Square were demanding the release of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders behind bars on war crimes charges. An English version of the news and the picture have also been found on a website called Bangladesh Independent News Network (BDINN) with the same date and credit lines and title “Millions of people gathered in Turkey, demanding release of Jamaat leaders of Bangladesh.”

However, at the bottom of the same picture, a Turkish news website simply said: “PROPHETS OF LOVE rallies.” “Under these circumstances,” said Prof Shamim, also a senior teacher at the educational and counselling psychology department of Dhaka University, “my whole cognition about my world is based on wrong or inaccurate information.” The brain requires a lot of processing when it receives any information, she said, adding that the brain stores information even if it is wrong and when the same brain gets the right information on the same issue it commands you to sort it out.

A Bangla blog released a picture and news on December 15 last year with the dateline, “Tehran, Friday 14 December 2012.” The picture was of a march of veiled women and it was captioned, “Over a hundred thousand women rally in Tehran demanding release of Sayedee.” But the same picture was found on the website of the Australian newspaper Daily Life with the caption: “Muslim women march down Macquarie Street, Sydney, in the annual Ashura procession to promote unity and spread the message of peace and harmony. 17th December 2010.” Pinaki Bhattacharya, a blogger and online activist, told The Daily Star, “This is a crime; presenting distorted and misinformation is a crime.”

However, this was nothing new in the global political field or in Bangladesh, Pinaki said. Pasting the photograph of a person on a passport by removing the original photo was very common in Bangladesh in the recent past. Fabrication became easy with the social media boom, he added. Social media and networking sites have tremendous positive impacts. They have created an opportunity for each and every person in the world to exercise his/her freedom of expression. But the tragic attacks on the Buddhist community in Ramu and some other places of Cox‟s Bazar can be a unique example of how abuse of this opportunity can wreak havoc on a country or society. A group of Islamist fanatics destroyed more than a dozen Buddhist monasteries in Ramu in September last year through using an anti-Islam photo on a fake Facebook account of a Buddhist youth. The attackers in a planned way spread the picture of desecrating the Quran through mobile phones of many locals in Ramu through Bluetooth or picture message service. The same technique was applied at Teknaf in Cox‟s Bazar in the middle of last year on the Rohingya issue. In June last year, many locals of Teknaf were frequently receiving pictures on their mobile phones via Bluetooth or as picture messages of the persecution of Rohingyas in neighbouring Rakhine state of Myanmar. Those pictures were about horrific atrocities on Rohingyas that made people in Teknaf panicky. Simultaneously, attempts by some hundred Rohingyas fleeing repression by the majority Buddhist population in Myanmar to enter Bangladesh left the people of Teknaf scared. Undoubtedly, there is a record of the persecution of Rohingyas, but the spread of those pictures in the middle of last year was nothing but a tool of propaganda to create sympathy and support for Rohingyas among the bordering neighbourhood in Teknaf. The Daily Star investigation revealed that those photos were misleading. Anyone can find the original source of an image posted online by searching similar images using tools or apps like Gophoto.it. A Facebook account named “Save Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar (Burma)” shared a photo from another account called “Cyber group of Bangladesh”. It was a photo of a mass grave and a line above read: “Stop killing Muslims in Burma….Please Share with Friends.” Originally, it was news agency AFP‟s photo with the caption, “A picture released by the Local Coordination Committees in Syria purportedly shows people standing around a mass grave in the town of Taftnaz on Thursday.” This original picture and caption are available on the site of “The National,” an English- language daily newspaper published in Abu Dhabi in April last year. The same Facebook account on July 17, 2012, released another picture with the caption: “Continuity of Massacre of Muslims of Burma by Buddhists, More than 1000 Killed yesterday.” It was actually a picture of a 2004 incident in Thailand. Foreign news agencies released the photo with the caption: “Thai soldiers apprehend hundreds of men after demonstrators clashed with police outside the Tak Bai police station in Thailand‟s Narathiwat Province, nearly 1150 km (715 miles) south of Bangkok, October 25, 2004.”

Pictures with misleading captions like “Terrorists of Buddhism of Burma Kill 500 Muslims at the Beach of Bay of Bengal today”, “Massacre is continuously going on,” “Massacre of Muslims in Burma,” “Muslims slaughtered by Buddhists in Burma” have been found on different sites. Some sites claimed 40 thousand people had been killed. In April 2010, there was a picture of Tibetan monks preparing for the mass cremation of earthquake victims on a mountaintop in Yushu county, Qinghai province, in China. That picture, too, was widely used in social media with the caption, “The killing of Muslims in Burma”.

A striking photo of a Tibetan who set himself on fire outside the Indian parliament to protest the visit by Chinese president Hu Jintao in March last year has also been spread with a false caption: “A Muslim was burned in Burma and journalists are taking pictures instead of saving him.” An image from Theo van Gogh‟s television documentary “Submission” was widely used in mainstream international media while a review of this film was published. The image was of an actress with a passage from the Quran tattooed on her back. It was widely used in social media as an instance of the persecution of Muslims in Burma. A photo has been posted on a Facebook page showing an elderly Muslim riding a motorbike in Lahore with a Bangla placard that said, “Demanding Allama Sayedee‟s release.” In the original picture, the placard was in Urdu on a totally different issue, that of describing Muslims who observe New Year as people who have strayed from the path of Islam.

A picture of a grand rally led by Shahbagh youths was posted on social media with the Urdu caption, “A rally to protest against the sentences passed on Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh leaders is in progress in Dhaka”, while the gathering pressed for a ban on Jamaat politics and maximum punishment to war criminals. When someone posts a fabricated picture, thousands of people share and watch it within minutes. Sometimes many viewers drop their comments supporting or denouncing the false claim. “I don‟t know the solution to this problem, I just don‟t want to be exposed to any wrong information,” Prof Shamim said.

“But there must be some technological way of stopping the supply of information which is not accurate,” she said, citing the example of the filtering system of inbox mails and spam mails in email accounts. “Experts may find a way of filtering or differentiating right from wrong information when someone abuses it in the social media by copying from its original sources.” Still, Pinaki Bhattacharya said, the use of social media should not be restricted by the law. So, what‟s the way out? “Social media is an open field,” the blogger said. “It is necessary for social media users to keep an open mind and have the mentality to challenge any post and check facts before sharing it.”
