Molluscs of the Dürrenstein Wilderness Area
Molluscs of the Dürrenstein Wilderness Area S a b i n e F ISCHER & M i c h a e l D UDA Abstract: Research in the Dürrenstein Wilderness Area (DWA) in the southwest of Lower Austria is mainly concerned with the inventory of flora, fauna and habitats, interdisciplinary monitoring and studies on ecological disturbances and process dynamics. During a four-year qualitative study of non-marine molluscs, 96 sites within the DWA and nearby nature reserves were sampled in cooperation with the “Alpine Land Snails Working Group” located at the Natural History Museum of Vienna. Altogether, 84 taxa were recorded (72 land snails, 12 water snails and mussels) including four endemics and seven species listed in the Austrian Red List of Molluscs. A reference collection (empty shells) of molluscs, which is stored at the DWA administration, was created. This project was the first systematic survey of mollusc fauna in the DWA. Further sampling might provide additional information in the future, particularly for Hydrobiidae in springs and caves, where detailed analyses (e.g. anatomical and genetic) are needed. Diplom-Biologe KLAUS GROH Malakozoologe Und Naturschützer – 65 Jahre
53 Mitt. dtsch. malakozool. Ges. 94 53 – 70 Frankfurt a. M., November 2015 Diplom-Biologe KLAUS GROH Malakozoologe und Naturschützer – 65 Jahre CARSTEN RENKER & JÜRGEN H. JUNGBLUTH th Abstract: The 65 birthday of KLAUS GROH is a good occasion to give a retrospect of his life and hitherto existing achievement. Beside his vita we summarize his malacological work, give an overview about the projects for the protection of species, have a look on his tremendous impetus for the worldwide distribution of malacological knowledge by the establishment of the CHRISTA HEMMEN-Verlag, later ConchBooks, as publishing house, book trader and antiquarian. Last but not least we give a summary of his scientific achievements culminating in 206 publications and containing descriptions of up to now 42 specific taxa. Keywords: KLAUS GROH, biography, bibliography, malacology, freshwater mussels, Hesse, Rhineland- Palatinate, Luxembourg Zusammenfassung: Der 65. -

Boeters Karneidstrasse 8, D 81545 Munchen, Germany In France the genusAlzoniella Giusti & Bodon, 1984, is represented with two subgenera, viz. its nominate subgenus and Navarriella subgen. nov. The nominate subgenus comprises six three species, ofwhich are described as viz. A. haicabia A. new, (A.) spec. nov., (A.) junqua spec. A. nov. and A. (A.) provincialis spec. nov., next to (A.) navarrensis Boeters, 1999, A. (A.) perrisii and A. (Dupuy, 1851) (A.) pyrenaica (Boeters, 1983). The new subgenus is proposed for A. (Navarriella) elliptica (Paladilhe, 1874) only. A. (A.) perrisii (Dupuy, 1851) [Hydrobia], the first of this became known from is redefined and species genus that France, described here with two viz. A. and A. subspecies, (A.) p. perrisii (A.) p. irubensis subspec. nov. Key words: Gastropoda, Prosobranchia, Hydrobiidae, Alzoniella (Alzoniella) and Alzoniella (Navarriella), France. INTRODUCTION Giusti & Bodon (1984: 169) described Alzoniella for three eyeless, subterranean, hy- drobiid species from Italy, that might have evolved from small populations that locally survived the Quaternary glaciations. It turned out that Alzoniella is also represented in where mountain inhabited France, regions are that have partially been subject to gla- ciations, viz. the Pyrenees and the MediterraneanAlps. In these regions too, populations ofancestral have Alzoniella might survived locally by invading subterranean waters. This development apparently went less far than in for example Bythiospeum Bourguignat, 1882, andMoitessieria Bourguignat, 1863. Species of these two genera, which are eyeless stygobionts, occur not only in karstic waters, but also in the interstitium and in subter- ranean waters bordering river valleys such as that of the Rhone river (Boeters & Miiller be found 1992). -

293 – Les Noms Scientifiques Français Des Mollusques Continentaux De
LES NOMS SCIENTIFIQUES FRANÇAIS DES MOLLUSQUES CONTINENTAUX DE FRANCE : processus d’ÉtABLISSEMENT d’une LISTE DE RÉFÉRENCE Benoît FONTAINE 1, Jean-Michel BICHAIN 2, Xavier CUCHERAT 3, Olivier GAR G OMINY 4 & Vincent PRIÉ 5 SUMMARY. — French scientific names of continental molluscs of France: process for establishing a list of reference. — In the biodiversity crisis context and with the increasing general awareness on this issue, conservation of small and poorly-known species is hampered by the fact they only have latine names. In order to communicate for biodiversity conservation, having French names is an advantage which is lacking in terrestrial and freshwater molluscs from France. To remedy this problem, we propose a list of French scientific names for this group, i.e. all species and subspecies known from France. We have listed existing names in legal documents, in usage and in the 18th and 19th centuries scientific literature. The resulting list being incomplete, we had to create new French names, following a series of recommendations adapted from similar works dealing with other taxonomic groups. We conclude by dealing with the issue of the legitimacy and validity of such names. The list of French scientific names is given as an appendix and is downloadable from internet. -
