Tutkimus osoitti, että sanojen shit ja piss kohdealueina ovat suurimmaksi osaksi negatiiviset käsitteet ja asiat kuten esimerkiksi alempiarvoisuus (SHIT/PISS IS SECOND-RATE), törkeä käytös toista kohtaan (SHIT/PISS IS ABUSE) ja arvottomuus (SHIT/PISS IS OF LITTLE OR NO VALUE). Toisaalta sanalla piss on joitakin sellaisia kohdealueita, joita shit-sanat eivät ilmaise, kuten esimerkiksi alkoholi ja muut nesteet (SHIT IS A TYPE OF LIQUID); tästä huolimatta shit ja piss-sanojen välillä on paljon samankaltaisuutta, minkä osoittaa esimerkiksi ilmaisu shit/piss or get off the pot, joka pysyy merkitykseltään samana riippumatta siitä, sijoittaako ilmaisuun sanan shit vai piss. • Configuring a Scatological Gaze in Trash Filmmaking Zoe Gross
Excremental Ecstasy, Divine Defecation and Revolting Reception: Configuring a Scatological Gaze in Trash Filmmaking Zoe Gross Scatology, for all the sordid formidability the term evokes, is not an es- pecially novel or unusual theme, stylistic technique or descriptor in film or filmic reception. Shit happens – to emphasise both the banality and perva- siveness of the cliché itself – on multiple levels of textuality, manifesting it- self in both the content and aesthetic of cinematic texts, and the ways we respond to them. We often refer to “shit films,” using an excremental vo- cabulary redolent of detritus, malaise and uncleanliness to denote their otherness and “badness”. That is, films of questionable taste, aesthetics, or value, are frequently delineated and defined by the defecatory: we describe them as “trash”, “crap”, “filth”, “sewerage”, “shithouse”. When considering cinematic purviews such as the b-film, exploitation, and shock or trash filmmaking, whose narratives are so often played out on the site of the gro- tesque body, a screenscape spectacularly splattered with bodily excess and waste is de rigeur. Here, the scatological is both often on blatant dis- play – shit is ejected, consumed, smeared, slung – and underpining or tinc- turing form and style, imbuing the text with a “shitty” aesthetic. In these kinds of films – which, as their various appellations tend to suggest, are de- fined themselves by their association with marginality, excess and trash, the underground, and the illicit – the abject body and its excretia not only act as a dominant visual landscape, but provide a kind of somatic, faecal COLLOQUY text theory critique 18 (2009).

  • A Concept of Clean Toilet from the Islamic Perspective
A CONCEPT OF CLEAN TOILET FROM THE ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE Asiah Abdul Rahim Department ofArchitecture Kulliyyah afArchitecture and Environmental Design INTERNATIONAL ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY MALAYSIA Abstract Islam is the official religion of Malaysia and more than half of the population is Muslim. As Muslims, the aspect of cleanliness is one of the most important and basic things that should be followed and practised in everyday life. Allah loves those cleanse themselves as quoted in the holy Qur'an. .. God loves those who turn to Him, and He loves those who cleanse themselves ". (Surah Al-Baqarah: 222) There is a growing awareness of public toilets among the public and authorities which can be seen in the events such as the "A Clean Toilet Campaign Seminar" held at national level end of July 2003 in lohor Bahru, Johor. Criticisms by visitors and locals stirred the level of consciousness among those responsible directly or indirectly for clean and effective public facilities.Nowadays, toilet is no longer perceived as merely a small and insignificant part of a building. It contributes and serves more than the initial purposes intended. Due to socio-economic changes, a toilet has been diversified and become multi-functions. It has surpassed its traditional role as a place to empty bowels or urinates to serve as comfortable vicinity with conveniences. In developed countries such as Japan and Korea, a public toilet has become a communal area where people could do face washing, showering, freshen up or taking care of their kids and so on. In designing a public toilet, some elements should be highlighted particularly on the understanding of users needs.

EXCERPTS FOR DISTRIBUTION Two Shores of Zen An American Monk’s Japan _____________________________ Jiryu Mark Rutschman-Byler Order the book at WWW.LULU.COM/SHORESOFZEN Join the conversation at WWW.SHORESOFZEN.COM NO ZEN IN THE WEST When a young American Buddhist monk can no longer bear the pop-psychology, sexual intrigue, and free-flowing peanut butter that he insists pollute his spiritual community, he sets out for Japan on an archetypal journey to find “True Zen,” a magical elixir to relieve all suffering. Arriving at an austere Japanese monastery and meeting a fierce old Zen Master, he feels confirmed in his suspicion that the Western Buddhist approach is a spineless imitation of authentic spiritual effort. However, over the course of a year and a half of bitter initiations, relentless meditation and labor, intense cold, brutal discipline, insanity, overwhelming lust, and false breakthroughs, he grows disenchanted with the Asian model as well. Finally completing the classic journey of the seeker who travels far to discover the home he has left, he returns to the U.S. with a more mature appreciation of Western Buddhism and a new confidence in his life as it is. Two Shores of Zen weaves together scenes from Japanese and American Zen to offer a timely, compelling contribution to the ongoing conversation about Western Buddhism’s stark departures from Asian traditions. How far has Western Buddhism come from its roots, or indeed how far has it fallen? JIRYU MARK RUTSCHMAN-BYLER is a Soto Zen priest in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi. He has lived in Buddhist temples and monasteries in the U.S.

With its short pale walls and the sloped dirt parking lot, the establishment looks like a major league pitcher's mound, although in a ballpark the Budweiser and Coors signs are on the outfield walls rather than beckoning the fielders from within the rubber. The interior of the tavern is composed of darkly-varnished lumber, dotted here with a 26” LED television and there with a vintage bicycle in the rafters.

Näin esillä oleva tekstityyppi on jatkuvan arvostelun kohteena. Ensin- näkin tutkielmassa oltiin kiinnostuneita, kuinka Trailer Park Boys -sarjan Netflix-tekstitykset suo- riutuivat. Sarja sisältää paljon Ricky -nimiseen hahmoon perustuvia humoristisia sanaleikkejä, joita sarjan seuraajat kutsuvat ”Rickyismeiksi”. Tutkimuksessa kysyttiin lähtökohtaisesti, ovatko näiden sanaleikkien käännökset tarkoituksenmukaisia
