The Fundamentals of Fiqh Chapter 2: Taharah (Purity) Rizwan Hussain Al Azhari In light of the Quran & Sunnah إِ ان االل َه ُيحِ ُب االت او ِاب َين َو ُيحِ ُب ْال ُم َت َط ِّه ِرينَ ‘Surely Allah loves those who repent and keep themselves clean’ (2:222) الطُ هُ ُور شَ ْط ُر الإِ َيم ِان ‘Cleanliness is half of faith’ (Muslim) اِسْ َت ْن ِز ُهوا ِم ْن اَ ْلبَ ْو ِل, َفإِ ان َع اام َة َعذَ ِاب اَ ْل َقبْ ِر ِم ْن ُه “Beware of (smearing yourselves with) urine, because it is the main cause of punishment in the grave”. [Ad-Daraqutni] What is Taharah? Literally: Cleanliness In Shariah: The removal of ritual impurity and dirt Cleanliness is of 2 kinds: 1. Minor cleanliness and that is Wudu (Ablution). 2. Major cleanliness and that is Ghusl (Bathing). There is need of Wudu for minor impurities and Ghusl for major impurities. How to achieve Cleanliness 1. Washing with water 2. Tayammum (using the earth-dust) Types of water: The following types of water are permissible for cleaning purposes: 1. Rain water 2. Sea water 3. River water 4. Fountain water 5. Well water 6. Ice/snow water 7. Hailstone water Suitability for cleanliness 1. Taahir Mutah-hir (Purifying) This is general water which is both clean per se and suitable for cleanliness. 2. Taahir Ghair Mutah-hir (Pure) It is clean but unsuitable for cleaning purposes. E.g. fruit juice 3. Najis (impure) Water contaminated by filth. Najaasa (impurity) In Shariah it refers to both physical and ritual impurity. -

Healthy Toileting Practices Bowel movements: Start a toilet time routine. Choose a specific time during the day when your child will sit on the toilet to pass a bowel movement (make a poop) and have them use the toilet at the same time every day. The body is usually ready for a bowel movement 20-30 minutes after eating, so a good time to try would be after breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Your child’s stool (poop) should be soft and easy to pass, and look like a snake or sausage. To help your child have regular bowel movements, they should eat fruits and vegetables, and drink plenty of water. If your child is constipated they will be unable to have a bowel movement or have painful and difficult bowel movements. Please call us with any questions or concerns about constipation. Hygiene and proper cleaning are important. Please remember to wipe from “front to back”. Urination: Remind your child to sit on the toilet AT LEAST every 3 hours, or more often if they need to. Give your child enough time to sit on the toilet and try to urinate (pee). Remind your child not to rush while they urinate. Ask your child to breathe deeply and take their time when trying to urinate to relax the pelvic floor (no squeezing or pushing with the tummy). Ask them to take deep breaths and blow out the air slowly to help them relax. Double voiding: Try to have your child urinate. After your child urinates and says they are “finished”, wipe them from front to back and ask them to stand up and move around and then sit back down on the toilet and try again. -

POLICY It is the policy of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to ensure that members of the MPD abide by laws that require the Department to make reasonable accommodations for the religious beliefs of those with whom its members interact in their official capacities. Thus, members of the MPD shall treat persons wearing religious head coverings or other articles of faith in a manner that is professional, respectful, and courteous. In general, persons wearing religious head coverings or other articles of faith shall be permitted to continue wearing them except when removal or confiscation is reasonably required for reasons of safety or security. II. DEFINITIONS For the purpose of this special order, the following terms shall have the meanings designated: 1. Member – Sworn or civilian employee or a member of the Reserve Corps. 2. Religious Head Covering – Articles worn on the head for religious purposes. They include, but are not limited to: a. Kippah (yarmulke) – Religious head covering worn by orthodox Jewish men; b. Human Rights of Women Wearing the Veil in Western Europe Research Paper I. Introduction The present paper analyses legislation, policies, and case-law surrounding religious attire in a number of countries in Western Europe and how they affect the human rights of women and girls who wear the veil in Western Europe. It also more broadly analyses discrimination and violence experienced by women wearing the veil in Europe learning from their own voice. Throughout the paper, the terminology ‘veil’ is used to refer to a variety of religious attire worn mostly, but not exclusively, by Muslim women. There are different types of clothing that cover the body. This research is focused on manifestations of veils that are the subject of regulation in several Western European Countries. They include the hijab (a piece of clothing that covers the head and neck, but not the face), niqab (a piece of clothing that covers the face, where only the eyes are visible), burqa (a piece of clothing that covers both the face and eyes), jilbab (a loose piece of clothing that covers the body from head to toe), or abaya, kaftan, kebaya (a loose, often black, full body cover overcoat). The head and body covers are often combined. In several countries, some of these clothing are based on traditional costumes rather than religion and are often worn by rural communities in the countries of origins. The paper also uses the terminology ‘full-face veil’ or ‘face-covering veil’ to refer to both niqab and burqa. Furthermore, it refers to burkini, a swimsuit that covers the body from head to ankles, completed by a dress. -

A CONCEPT OF CLEAN TOILET FROM THE ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE Asiah Abdul Rahim Department ofArchitecture Kulliyyah afArchitecture and Environmental Design INTERNATIONAL ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY MALAYSIA Abstract Islam is the official religion of Malaysia and more than half of the population is Muslim. As Muslims, the aspect of cleanliness is one of the most important and basic things that should be followed and practised in everyday life. Allah loves those cleanse themselves as quoted in the holy Qur'an. .. God loves those who turn to Him, and He loves those who cleanse themselves ". (Surah Al-Baqarah: 222) There is a growing awareness of public toilets among the public and authorities which can be seen in the events such as the "A Clean Toilet Campaign Seminar" held at national level end of July 2003 in lohor Bahru, Johor. Criticisms by visitors and locals stirred the level of consciousness among those responsible directly or indirectly for clean and effective public facilities.Nowadays, toilet is no longer perceived as merely a small and insignificant part of a building. It contributes and serves more than the initial purposes intended. Due to socio-economic changes, a toilet has been diversified and become multi-functions. It has surpassed its traditional role as a place to empty bowels or urinates to serve as comfortable vicinity with conveniences. In developed countries such as Japan and Korea, a public toilet has become a communal area where people could do face washing, showering, freshen up or taking care of their kids and so on. In designing a public toilet, some elements should be highlighted particularly on the understanding of users needs. -

Introduction Dry Ablution (Tayammum) 1 of 5 www.NewMuslims.com What should you do in the situation where you have to pray salah (ritual prayer), yet neither have no water suitable for making wudoo, nor the time be able to find such water soon enough to pray on time? What if you are sick and either not able to make wudoo, or making wudoo is detrimental to your health. What is the correct procedure in such a case? The answer to these common questions is to perform a “dry” ablution, which is called tayammum. Tayammum consists of using clean soil or dust to wipe your face and hands with the intention of preparing oneself to pray, and, as such, substitutes wudoo in special circumstances. The procedure and basic conditions of making tayammum are mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah. -

The Halalan Toyyibah Concept In The Al-Qur'an Perspective And Its Application With Food Products In Indonesia Irma Fatmawati Social Sains Faculty Unversitas Pembangunan Panca Budi Universitas Pembangunan Panca Budi, Medan, Indonesia Email – [email protected] ABSTRACT: The Qur'an provides information that food for humans and animals is already available on Earth but requires effort before being eaten. In addition, people are told to eat food that is lawful and good (Toyib) with no excess, or exceeding limits. Halal in terms of searching, picking and collecting it, and not in an illegal way. Q.S. Al-Baqarah (2): 168 explains: "O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful and good and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.”. With regard to the food that is "Halalan Toyyiban" (halal and good) which have been mentioned above, it is also mentioned in Q.S. Al-Maidah (5): 88 as follows: "And eat of what Allah has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And fear Allah, in whom you are believers.” In that verse Allah commands to eat the halal and good sustenances which He has given. What is meant by "halal" in this verse is synonymous with the meaning mentioned in verse 168 of Al-Baqarah, i.e. halal things and halal ways of obtaining them. Whereas "thayyib" (good) is in terms of its usefulness which are: beneficial to the body, contains nutrients, vitamins, proteins and others that suit the needs of a person's body.
