The results showed that the current deposition of palynomorphs in surface sediments of Guanabara Bay represents the regional vegetation of this hydrographic basin. The differential distribution of palynomorphs followed a pattern influenced by bathymetry, tidal currents speed, discharge of numerous rivers, and by human activity. The dominance of representatives of Field Vegetation reflects the changes of the original flora caused by intense human activities in the region. The continued presence and richness of pollen types of rain forest in the samples indicates that their source area might be the vegetation from riparian border of rivers in the western sector of the Bay, where the mangrove vegetation is being preserved. The large amount of damaged palynomorphs may be related to abrasion that occurs during river transport, indicating removal or reworking from their areas of origin.     Guanabara Bay - 2B m³ of water. 384km². 55 rivers contribute an average annual flow of 350m³/s (Portuguese: Baía de Guanabara, IPA: [ɡwanaˈbaɾɐ]) is an oceanic bay located in Southeast Brazil in the state of Rio de Janeiro. On its western shore lies the city of Rio de Janeiro and Duque de Caxias, and on its eastern shore the cities of Niterói and São Gonçalo. Four other municipalities surround the bay's shores. Guanabara Bay is the second largest bay in area in Brazil (after the All Saints' Bay), at 412 square kilometres (159 sq mi), with a perimeter of 143 kilometres (89 mi). Guanabara Bay is 31 kilometres (19 mi) long and 28 kilometres (17 mi) wide at its maximum. Its 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) wide mouth is flanked at the eastern tip by the Pico do Papagaio (Parrot's Peak) and the western tip by Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf). There have been three major oil spills in Guanabara Bay. The most recent was in 2000 when a leaking underwater pipeline released 1,300,000 litres (340,000 US gal) of oil into the bay, destroying large swaths of the mangrove ecosystem. Recovery measures are currently being attempted, but more than a decade after the incident, the mangrove areas have not returned to life. In Brazil Aedes aegypti is the only known vector. During the 2007–2008 period, Rio de Janeiro state experienced the most severe dengue epidemics ever reported in terms of morbidity and mortality. During this period, 322,371 cases and 240 deaths were registered, with 100 deaths due to dengue haemorragic fever/ dengue shock syndrome and 140 due to other dengue-related complications. Dengue transmission is influenced by closely related factors, many of which directly associated to the environment.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar a contaminação por metais-traço e avaliar a disponibilidade em sedimentos de áreas de manguezais (Surui, Nova Orleans e Piedade). Concentrações de Cd, Zn, Pb, Ni, Cu e Al foram determinadas em segmentos de testemunhos -1 após tratamento com 1 mol L de HCl e com HNO3. Fe e Mn foram determinados na lixívia de HNO3 concentrado. As concentrações foram baixas em comparação com aquelas reportadas para a Baía de Guanabara e o Cd mostrou a mais alta recuperação em 1 mol L-1 HCl (90%). Apesar de oxidados ou subóxicos os sedimentos mostraram SAV na faixa de 0,07 to 18,79 μmol g-1 sugerindo heterogeneidade e desequilíbrio aparente. Óxidos de Fe, Mn, carbonatos e matéria orgânica são as fases que mais provavelmente controlam a biodisponibilidade dos metais. Abstract: Exclusion Territories are geographical areas under the action of degenerative environmental phenomena of anthropogenic origin, which compromise quality of life in general. E; 20550-013 Rio de Janeiro – RJ – Brasil; [email protected] RESUMO A extração e a comercialização do mexilhão Perna perna na baía de Guanabara, Brasil A baía de Guanabara, no estado do Rio de Janeiro, recebe efluentes industriais e uma alta carga de esgoto doméstico, a partir de uma bacia hidrográfica com mais de 4.000 km 2. Avaliações para coliformes fecais na água do mar indicam, em várias regiões, uma situação imprópria para cultivo ou extração de mexilhões. Não obstante, a atividade extrativa envolve entre 50 e 100 coletores e uma produção de 20 a 65 t mensais, in natura . A Associação dos Maricultores de Jurujuba, em Niterói, com 30 a 40 pescadores, responde por cerca de 50 a 70% desse total. A coleta do mexilhão nas áreas mais internas da baía foi descontinuada, mantendo-se porém inalterada, ao longo dos últimos 20 anos, na região entre Boa Viagem, em Niterói, e o Aeroporto Santos Dumont, no Rio de Janeiro, até a entrada da baía. Mais recentemente, a extração foi estendida às ilhas oceânicas adjacentes à baía. As condições de processamento do mexilhão na Associação de Jurujuba são adequadas às normas sanitárias, porém o produto coletado pelos pescadores independentes é processado e comercializado em condições extremamente precárias.
