INTRODUCTION 2.1 Identification of Project and Project Proponent Name of the Project: Shri Shivratan Sahu (Proposed for Brick Earth Mining) Location: Shiv Ratan Bricks at Plot no. 626 & 627, Khata No. 05 in Mouza - Jamuadag, District - Khunti, Jharkhand. Mining lease Area: 7.45 Acres (3.015 Ha) Land agreement documents (including plots of mining & brick kiln) attached as Annexure II. Name and address of project proponent: Details of the proponent are given here under: Sri Shiv Ratan Sahu S/o . Shri H.N. Sahu At: Kathal More Road, Argora Basti PO-Doranda Dist: Ranchi (Jharkhand) Mob: +919693001001 2.2 Brief description of the nature of the project The proposed project is to mine brick Earth from above mentioned plots sustainably and scientifically. Mining will be opencast and manual as per mining rules keeping all the nearby plots unaffected. 2.3 Need for the project and its importance to the country and region Bricks are used in almost any type of construction activity. During present time, where the focus of the government is on improvement of basic infrastructure, both in rural and urban areas, there is a constant need for ensuing regular supply of these inputs. The production of Brick Earth will benefit the state in the form of royalty. Apart from this, project operation will provide employment directly and indirectly to the people residing in vicinity, thus improving the Socio- economic status of the area. 2.4 Demands-Supply Gap Brick Earth has become a very important mineral for the manufacturing of Bricks which contributes to the expansion of infrastructure in the society. With increasing development/urbanization, the demand for Bricks is growing in infrastructure sector in our country. Individual and private companies are increasingly demanding Bricks for construction purposes and this has immense pressure on Brick Earth resources. Further, there are not many large scale soil GEOCARE MINING SERVICES, RANCHI 3 PRE-FEASIBILITY REPORT Proposed Brick Earth Mining for Sri. Shivratan Sahu At Plot no. 626 & 627 Khata No 05, Mouza: Jamuadag District: Khunti, Jharkhand deposits in the districts, and thus the focus is to systematically develop known small and medium size deposits. This clearly shows that a gap between the demand and supply of basic raw materials (brick earth) exists. To minimize this gap to some extent, the proposed brick kiln project will be a step in the right direction. 2.5 Domestic/ Export Markets Due to the increased industrial and infrastructural growth of the rural and urban areas, the demand for Bricks is very high. Since these minerals are low value – high volume items – efforts are made to source the material from the nearest point of supply. This is to avoid high cost of transportation. Construction companies and local vendors in the nearby town and cities are the potential market for the brick made up of brick Earth. 2.6 Employment Generation Due to the proposed mining of Earth there will be direct demand of 18 workers for the mining and 7-10 workers indirectly in the kiln. There will be also indirect employment in transportation and handling. GEOCARE MINING SERVICES, RANCHI 4 PRE-FEASIBILITY REPORT Proposed Brick Earth Mining for Sri. The salient feature of the megalithic landscape is the continuity of tradition among the Munda people. This paper is a brief report of exploration conducted in the month of January 2016 to document megalithic sites with living tradition prevalent among the Mundas in the study area and its adjoining regions to find out variations in their typologies, locations and megalith orientations. Keywords: Megaliths, Menhir, Dolmen, Stone Circle, Ranchi, Khunti, Jharkhand Introduction The Megalithic tradition in Jharkhand prevails among some of the tribal societies. Many ancient megalithic sites are distributed all over the tribal landscape of Ranchi and Khunti districts. The population of the region is primarily represented by the Munda inhabitants, apart from some other non-tribal groups. The present paper reports the result of recent field investigation in five blocks of Ranchi and Khunti districts. The main purpose of this work was to document megalithic monuments; both ancient and the new ones. Three more blocks of these districts are taken under investigation to find out the differences in various aspects of the living megalithic tradition, such as typology of the memorials, their orientations and associated mortuary rituals.
