Every car park is different, so always be alert — you’ll never know when one may present safety concerns. On your part, familiarise yourself with your car’s allowances at the front and back when you park.

It’s always better to keep a larger margin from the wall on the passenger side of your car as you will not have a good gauge on that side.

PILLARS & BLINDSPOTS Take note of tight turnings, especially in older car parks, which were likely built to accommodate smaller cars back in the day. One of the most notable is Burlington Square, whose narrow lots as well as pillars and sharp bends create a blind spot at almost every turn. Another one on the list of poorly designed car parks is Golden Mile Complex; apart from the above challenges, it is also notable for an exit ramp that takes you up a blind crest into the taxi lane. Our advice for driving in any car park is to always drive slowly — there is little room for evasive action if you are speeding. When it comes to turning in tight spaces, apply the usual rules for turning, but be extra slow and cautious. While it’s fine to position the vehicle more to the right when making a left turn, it is dangerous to make wide turns in a narrow car park or on a two-way lane.
