2. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

There were only three projects of the output 3 that continued to be implemented in the second quarter by two implementing partners including King Prajadhipok’s Institute (KPI) and The Civic Women's Network. The three projects included (1) Social capital survey; (2) Livelihood improvement; and (3) Project documentaries for the promotion of social cohesion and SDGs.

King Prajadhipok’s Institute (KPI) is an academic institution had undertaken a social capital survey aiming to find existing social capitals in three sub- in Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat to strengthen Administrative Organizations (TAOs) in Southern Thailand by sharing information and designing a pattern of participatory processes for development planning and budgeting based on social capital found in their sub-. The target TAOs were Takae, Napradu, and Porming in . In this quarter, KPI had already finalised their research’s result and produced a social capital report for each TAOs.

12 livelihood improvement projects together with the newly selected projects in Narathiwat had been regularly monitored and visited to ensure that the projects would be continuously improved and developed. Some of them have already registered as a community enterprise, some have registered as a foundation, and some successfully developed their products. The newly selected local community for livelihood improvement, which is the project on “Meat Goat Farming and Fodder Production for Sustainable Agriculture” located in Narathiwat,

have assigned roles and responsibilities to group members to start working. The area for goat farming is mowed and group members who have never experienced raising meat goats were trained by experts from Prince of Songkla University.

In addition, 10 out of 13 community projects which were successfully developed were interviewed and filmed for a documentary to be broadcasted on the citizen reporter programme of Thai Public Broadcasting Service channel (Thai PBS) and disseminated through social media such Facebook, YouTube, and so on.

3. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS

Output 3: Local communities more resilient, with stronger social cohesion, through the improvement of livelihoods.

From April to June 2017, the following results were achieved.

Activity 1: Social Capital Survey

The King Prajadhipok's Institute (KPI) continued conduct the social capital survey by closely working with three sub-districts in Pattani wherein residents have demonstrated their interest in volunteering to conduct the survey in their sub-district: (1) Takae sub-district in (2) Pho Ming sub-district in , and (3) Napradu sub-district in Kok Pho district. The activity in this quarter was to evaluate sets of social capital discovering data in each area prior to summarizing and sharing with relevant stakeholders in the next quarter.

Activity 2: Livelihood Improvement Projects

A monitoring and evaluation had been regularly conducted in each quarter. In this quarter, the below three community projects in Pattani were visited on 5 April 2017 for monitoring. During the visit, the community groups were interviewed and the monitoring shown that the three projects had been quickly improved with great support of local authorities. They had opportunities to participate in national/regional trade exhibitions organized by the government. The visited community projects are as follows:

 Project on Roasted Coconut production in Ban Thienya, Yaring district, Pattani.  Project on Palm Sugar Development in Ban Thung and Ban Huakhlong, Panareh district, Pattani.  Project on Dried and Fresh Fish Crackers in Na Pradu sub-district, , Pattani

Activity 3: Project Documentaries for the promotion of Social Cohesion and SDGs

The thirteen livelihood improvement projects have developed successfully. As livelihood improvement was a concept to be used as a tool for promoting social cohesion and SDGs at local and national levels, the potential community groups were interviewed and filmed by the Civic Women's Network and the Office of Extension and Continuing Education, Prince of Songkhla University, which served as implementing partners to further promote social

cohesion and SDGs. 10 documentaries of 10 livelihood improvement projects were produced and broadcasted on the citizen reporter programme of Thai Public Broadcasting Service channel (Thai PBS) and disseminated through social media such Facebook, YouTube, and etc. In this quarter, 1 documentary was produced and broadcasted as follows:

 The documentary on Morale from female friends (a group of conflict-affected women from Po-Ming, Pattani, visited a group of conflict-affected women in Gujinluepa, Narathiwat) was broadcasted on 8 June 2016 at 21.10 hrs. (https://www.youtube.comwatch?v=Q3F3ZVJPR4w&feature=share)

4. MONITORING & EVALUATION AND RECOMMENDATION

Project implementation was monitored by the STEP II Project Management Unit through weekly updates, monthly team meetings, quarterly partnership meeting, and project site visits. In this quarter there was a spot check conducted from 16-17 May 2017.

6. KEY EXPECTED OUTPUTS

 Some local community groups will be registered as a social enterprise, or community enterprise, or foundation, depending on their needs and qualification.  The report on Social Capital will be produced.  The three Sub-district (Tambon) Administrative Organisations (SAO) will be shared with the result of the social capital survey and will be helped to use social capitals found for their development plan.  A manual on Project Proposal Writing for Community will be produced by KPI  Project Executive Meeting will be conducted. ………………………………………
