The Meaning of 'L' in Driving THE MEANING OF ‘L’ IN DRIVING An L-plate is a square plate bearing a sans-serif letter L, for learner, which must be affixed to the front and back of a vehicle in many countries if its driver is a learner under instruction. L-platers are restricted in some states to a maximum speed of 80(NSW)/110 depending on if you are with an instructor 100 km/h is allowed in certain states and territories, and these values are shown on the respective plates. In QLD and the ACT, there is not restrictions to speed other than the speed limits on the road. In NSW you need to complete a minimum 120 driving experience hours. The 120 hour minimum driving experience requirement remains the same for all Learner drivers - if you are under 25 years old, you will still need to hold your L-Licence for at least 12 months before attempting to take the Driving Test. Additionally, learner drivers who are 25 and over are now exempt from completing the Learner driver log-book and any tenure requirement, as of 19 December 2009. They are still required to complete all other formal licensing requirements and are encouraged to use the log book and obtain as much on-road practice with a supervising driver or driving instructor as possible. The 1930s proved that: the Winter Olympics in Germany in 1936, when the President of the International Olympic Committee threatened to cancel the Games unless the anti-semitic posters were all taken down now, whatever Adolf Hitler decrees; the 1936 Summer Games in Berlin and Hitler's look of utter disgust when Jesse Owens, a negro, won the 100 metres; the World Heavyweight title fight in 1938 between Joe Louis, a negro, and Germany's Max Schmeling which carried racial undertones and overtones. The fight lasted 2 minutes 4 seconds, and in that time Louis knocked Schmeling down four times. They say that some of Schmeling's teeth were found embedded in Louis's glove... Motor racing, a dangerous but genteel activity in the 1920s and early 1930s, was touched by this, too, and touched hard. The combustible mixture produced two Grand Prix races at Donington Park, in 1937 and 1938, which were just as dramatic, just as sinister and just as full of foreboding. This is the full story of those races.

Revisado: marzo-2019. Aceptado: mayo-2019. Abstract: Aranjman in Turkish is a loanword borrowed from French. When used in the context of music, it refers to the 1960s, a formative stage in introducing foreign pop music with Turkish lyrics into the Turkish cultural repertoire. The present study views the aranjman era, which has so far constituted a blank space, from the perspective of translation studies. It first sketches out a theoretical framework fusing Even-Zohar’s «invention», «import» and «cultural repertoire» with André Lefevere’s notions of «rewritings» and «patrons». Briefly reviewing the latest approaches in song translation studies, the study proposes subcategories to the term «rewriting» to refer to instrumentation, voice and lyrics levels as «reperforming», «resinging» and «relyricizing» respectively, which altogether enable the song to be rewritten in another language. These acts cannot be achieved in the absence of music producers, who are the «patrons» initiating the recording or «rerecording» of a song in any given music industry. From a general perspective, it was the collaboration of these patrons and rewriters that introduced first the inventions and then the imports into the Turkish pop music cultural repertoire. • Bernd Rosemeyer
Sidepodchat – Bernd Rosemeyer Christine: This is show three of five, where Steven Roy turns his written words into an audio extravaganza. These posts were originally published at the beginning of the year on Sidepodcast.com but they are definitely worth a second airing. Steven: Bernd Rosemeyer. Some drivers slide under the door of grand prix racing unnoticed and after serving a respectable apprenticeship get promoted into top drives. Some, like Kimi Räikkönen, fly through the junior formulae so quickly that they can only be granted a license to compete on a probationary basis. One man never drove a race car of any description before he drove a grand prix car and died a legend less than 3 years after his debut with his entire motor racing career lasting less than 1,000 days. Bernd Rosemeyer was born in Lingen, Lower Saxony, Germany on October 14th 1909. His father owned a garage and it was here that his fascination with cars and motor bikes began. The more I learn about Rosemeyer the more he seems like a previous incarnation of Gilles Villeneuve. Like Gilles he had what appeared to be super-natural car control. Like Gilles he seemed to have no fear and like Gilles he didn’t stick rigidly to the law on the road. At the age of 11 he borrowed his father’s car to take some friends for a drive and when at the age of 16 he received his driving license it was quickly removed after the police took a dim view to some of his stunt riding on his motor bike.

Asian Journal of Humanities and Social Studies (ISSN: 2321 – 2799) Volume 04 – Issue 03, June 2016 Contribution of Translations and Adaptations to the Birth of Turkish Pop Music Ayşe Şirin Okyayuz Bilkent University Ankara, Turkey Email: yener [AT] bilkent.edu.tr _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT— Popular songs are important multimodal mass media products through which cultures are communicated to people of different backgrounds, and these are widely translated. But, the study of the translations of popular songs has been partially neglected in translation studies. In an effort to contribute to filling this gap, the article aims to underline the importance of the translation and adaptation of songs; to explain how songs were translated and adapted to give birth to Turkish pop music; and to provide an example of an instance where socio- political and cultural realities and aspirations, aided by different translational strategies, helped shape a new music culture. Keywords— song translation, adaptation, replacement text, transfer postulate, relationship postulate _______________________________________________________________________________________________ 1. INTRODUCTION: SONGS, CULTURES AND SONG TRANSLATION Songs not only reflect a society, in some cases, they create social conditions including facilitation of social change. Songs are valuable resources for telling us what concerned people, how they saw issues and how they expressed their hopes, aspirations and frustrations. Songs do not consist of just the lyrics and the tune, but also of all the contexts in which they are created, experienced, produced, and consumed (Spitzer & Walters 2015, 1). S. Hallam (2008) refers to a song being, “powerful at the level of social group, because it facilitates communication which goes beyond words, enables meanings to be shared, and promotes the development and maintenance of individual, group, cultural and national identities.” Some translation scholars also acknowledge this.

The ultimate ambition of every racing driver since 1950, when the com petition was first introduced, has been to be crowned as 'World Cham pion'. In this, his fourth book, author Peter Miller looks into the back ground of just one of the annual qualifying rounds-the British Grand Prix-which go to make up the elusive title. Although by no means the oldest motor race on the English sporting calendar, the British Grand Prix has become recognised as an epic and invariably dramatic event, since its inception at Silverstone, Northants, on October 2nd, 1948. Since gaining World Championship status in May, 1950 — it was in fact the very first event in the Drivers' Championships of the W orld-this race has captured the interest not only of racing enthusiasts, LOONS but also of the man in the street. It has been said that the supreme test of the courage, skill and virtuosity of a Grand Prix driver is to w in the Monaco Grand Prix through the narrow streets of Monte Carlo and the German Grand Prix at the notorious Nürburgring. Both of these gruelling circuits cer tainly stretch a driver's reflexes to the limit and the winner of these classic events is assured of his rightful place in racing history.
