SARASOTA MEMORIAL PARK (5833 South Tamiami Trail, Sarasota)
Source: Cemeteries of Sarasota County Florida A Record of Births, Deaths, and Burials Compiled by The Genealogical Society of Sarasota Copyright © 1992, 2007 Last Updated - 8 Jan 2008 ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` SARASOTA MEMORIAL PARK (5833 South Tamiami Trail, Sarasota) When Sarasota was still a small community, two undertakers bought a number of acres for a cemetery. They applied for a permit which was denied because no one was buried there. Waiting until a man died, they had the body buried on the land. They again applied for a permit and certified that there was a body buried there. This time the permit was given. Later, when US Route 41 was to be constructed, the body was in it's path. It was moved to a spot near the middle of the cemetery and a plaque placed on the grave. The first interment was of Edward Bonapart "Bone" Hogan on 10 July 1945. There are people buried here who died before the cemetery was established, but they have all been moved in from other places. The first of tese died on 31 July 1882. WARNER BROS. / WEA RECORDS 1970 to 1982
AUSTRALIAN RECORD LABELS WARNER BROS. / WEA RECORDS 1970 to 1982 COMPILED BY MICHAEL DE LOOPER © BIG THREE PUBLICATIONS, APRIL 2019 WARNER BROS. / WEA RECORDS, 1970–1982 A BRIEF WARNER BROS. / WEA HISTORY WIKIPEDIA TELLS US THAT... WEA’S ROOTS DATE BACK TO THE FOUNDING OF WARNER BROS. RECORDS IN 1958 AS A DIVISION OF WARNER BROS. PICTURES. IN 1963, WARNER BROS. RECORDS PURCHASED FRANK SINATRA’S REPRISE RECORDS. AFTER WARNER BROS. WAS SOLD TO SEVEN ARTS PRODUCTIONS IN 1967 (FORMING WARNER BROS.-SEVEN ARTS), IT PURCHASED ATLANTIC RECORDS AS WELL AS ITS SUBSIDIARY ATCO RECORDS. IN 1969, THE WARNER BROS.-SEVEN ARTS COMPANY WAS SOLD TO THE KINNEY NATIONAL COMPANY. KINNEY MUSIC INTERNATIONAL (LATER CHANGING ITS NAME TO WARNER COMMUNICATIONS) COMBINED THE OPERATIONS OF ALL OF ITS RECORD LABELS, AND KINNEY CEO STEVE ROSS LED THE GROUP THROUGH ITS MOST SUCCESSFUL PERIOD, UNTIL HIS DEATH IN 1994. IN 1969, ELEKTRA RECORDS BOSS JAC HOLZMAN APPROACHED ATLANTIC'S JERRY WEXLER TO SET UP A JOINT DISTRIBUTION NETWORK FOR WARNER, ELEKTRA, AND ATLANTIC. ATLANTIC RECORDS ALSO AGREED TO ASSIST WARNER BROS. IN ESTABLISHING OVERSEAS DIVISIONS, BUT RIVALRY WAS STILL A FACTOR —WHEN WARNER EXECUTIVE PHIL ROSE ARRIVED IN AUSTRALIA TO BEGIN SETTING UP AN AUSTRALIAN SUBSIDIARY, HE DISCOVERED THAT ONLY ONE WEEK EARLIER ATLANTIC HAD SIGNED A NEW FOUR-YEAR DISTRIBUTION DEAL WITH FESTIVAL RECORDS. IN MARCH 1972, KINNEY MUSIC INTERNATIONAL WAS RENAMED WEA MUSIC INTERNATIONAL. DURING THE 1970S, THE WARNER GROUP BUILT UP A COMMANDING POSITION IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. IN 1970, IT BOUGHT ELEKTRA (FOUNDED BY HOLZMAN IN 1950) FOR $10 MILLION, ALONG WITH THE BUDGET CLASSICAL MUSIC LABEL NONESUCH RECORDS. -

By reading texts by Gayl Jones, Ralph Ellison, Franz Kafka; music and performances by Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday; the life, art and films of Josephine Baker, and the film The Jazz Singer (1927), my goal is to give African American experiences of trauma a place within American trauma studies and to offer jazz as an extensive archive of testimony for witnessing and for study. Initially, I explore the pivotal historical moment where trauma and jazz converge on a groundbreaking scale, when Billie Holiday sings ―Strange Fruit‖ in 1939. -

It's funny how 25 years later you actually see a band perform for the first time and you realize that they had their fingers on the pulse. These guys really got into synthesizers for the most part. Now I will admit that the DVD isn't of the best quality but it captures the band in its http://www.rocknetwebzine.com/dvd%20reviews/1980.html 2/13/2006 Page 2 of 2 raw form and you realize just how good these guys really were. One thing I liked about the DVD was that the cameras were focused on the band the whole time. That's rare. What's also cool about this DVD is that there is an audio CD on the flip side so you can just listen to the tunes if you like. -

Women and their allies around the world have fought for change with passion, imagination and tenacity. Despite these efforts, not all women enjoy the same rights, depending on their race, class, disability, sexuality or the way they express their identity. The fight for a better world is unfinished business. Focussing on the United Kingdom, this exhibition shines a light on some of the extraordinary women and campaigns that insisted on change – and on those that continue to do so. But what is yet to come? Who else should be celebrated? What stories are missing? #UnfinishedBusiness 3 Gender equality in the UK and around the world These statistics are taken from the United Nation’s Gender Inequality Index. The measures in the Index provide a detailed picture of gender inequality in each country, and identify priority areas for improvement. The United Kingdom scores highly in many areas, and was ranked 27 of 162 countries in the latest 2018 Index. However, the fight for women’s rights is unfinished business, and the Index highlights how the UK can still improve gender equality. Primal Scream Lady Sovereign Devo the Bar-Kays
MUSIC SXSW 09 LIVE SHOTS CONTINUED FROM P.57 exhilarating UK rockers 25-plus years on. THE BAR-KAYS Their Cedar Street gig ranged from 1990’s Dirty Dog Bar, March 19 classic Screamadelica (“Loaded”) to a thun- dering version of new single “Can’t Go Back.” Gillespie looked and sounded a full decade younger than the shorn, scrawny blowhard that staggered through his last Austin incarna- tion in 2000. With demon-green laser beams shooting over the sardine-tinned audience’s sea of raised hands, the Scream’s skintight renditions of classic hyper-rockers “Swastika Eyes” and “Miss Lucifer” twice resulted in a stage-front scrum that brought security into the crush. Encoring the 50-minute set with an electrifying version of “Rocks,” Gillespie and company exited slapping front-row flesh, grin- ning, laughing, and looking altogether pleased with their own beautiful future. – Marc Savlov LADY SOVEREIGN Club de Ville, March 20 AUBREY EDWARDS Beginning 20 minutes late, Lady Call it the Beale Street Invasion. Memphis Music Foundation’s Thursday night show- Sovereign’s set initially reigned chaos. The case was a reminder that the resilient Tennessee town is forever a haven for American showcase MC tried to keep the crowd ener- music. After hip-hoppers Free Sol filled in for 8Ball & MJG, who missed their flight, and gized while Sov’s DJ Annalyze spun and rockers Lucero drenched the crowd in bourbon-inspired grit, the Bar-Kays headlined with scratched, and seven or eight entouragers a Delta soul/funk party they’ve pumped for the past 40 years. -
