Our innovative, girl-led, girl-centered programming offers experiences that allow her to take the lead early and often and develop skills that ensure she’ll thrive on whatever path she chooses. All the work we do for the girls of our Movement—at 111 Girl Scout councils across the country and our national headquarters—is driven by our unwavering belief in the power of girls to lead us into the future. We are in a moment of transformation as a Movement that reflects the Sylvia Acevedo transformation our country and world are undergoing more broadly—from GSUSA CEO rapid-fire and constant technological changes that impact how we create, communicate, and collaborate, to the profound ways in which demographic shifts are affecting our social, economic, and political lives. Girl Scouts is positioned to thrive in this moment as we continue to expand and refine our program offerings for today’s girls, aligning them with our four national program pillars of STEM, the outdoors, life skills, and entrepreneurship. Girl Scouts had a lot to celebrate in FY 2018. Our July rollout of 30 new badges and two new Journeys in cybersecurity, environmental advocacy, mechanical engineering, robotics, computer science, and space exploration Kathy Hopinkah Hannan GSUSA National President was a great success. The more than 100 new badges introduced in the past three years are receiving glowing coverage in the media and driving awareness of Girl Scouts as the pioneering, girl-centered STEM organization offering girls fun, relevant, and impactful programming. We continue our work of providing amazing experiences for girls through our camps (where more than half a million girls experienced the great outdoors this summer) Girl Scouts of the USA / 2018 Annual Report 4 HIGH ADVENTURE and our incredible new outdoor high adventure badges sponsored by BADGES The North Face. Most importantly, we invested in collective actions as a Movement that we’ve never done before, including national digital ad buys, grassroots campaigns, a conversion call center, and a much stronger defense of our intellectual property. In our second century of service to girls, and with the enduring support of donors and partners like you, we are ensuring that Girl Scouts remains relevant to girls, their families, and our volunteers and that we’re building the leaders our communities, businesses, and institutions want and need. Throughout their Girl Scout experience, girls learn how to solve problems effectively, leverage the power of teamwork and collaboration, flex their entrepreneurial muscles, develop persistence and resilience, and identify and seize opportunities. On behalf of the entire Girl Scout Movement, we extend our profound thanks for your commitment to bringing girls life-changing experiences that position them for success. Together we are building tomorrow’s go-getters, innovators, risk-takers, and leaders—the G.I.R.L.s who will build our collective future. They applied for a permit which was denied because no one was buried there. Waiting until a man died, they had the body buried on the land. They again applied for a permit and certified that there was a body buried there. This time the permit was given. Later, when US Route 41 was to be constructed, the body was in it's path. It was moved to a spot near the middle of the cemetery and a plaque placed on the grave. The first interment was of Edward Bonapart "Bone" Hogan on 10 July 1945. There are people buried here who died before the cemetery was established, but they have all been moved in from other places. The first of tese died on 31 July 1882.
