Canadian Flag Collection Our unique exhibit showcases truly Canadian businesses, organizations and historic flags. We hold the nation’s second largest museum collection of Canadian flags! Why flags? Flags are all around us, we see them everyday. Canadians use flags to advertise, promote our organizations and rally behind for sporting events and national holidays. Our museum’s collection reflects this vital part of Canadian culture and daily life. We are proud to be the Argyle Homecoming Parade 2000 custodians of such important Canadian symbols as they continue to grow historically valuable with care and the passage of time. Our Collection: With over 815 flags, and growing everyday, our Canadian Regions & Cities collection is comprised of five galleries: Historical & Canadiana Sports & Organizations Canadian Business Commemorative & special Flags Flags in the media As our collection grows, so does it’s fame! We have received media coverage from: Winnipeg Free Press (June 28th, 2010 & th Flying at our Museum December 26, 2010), CBC Radio (June 30 , 2010 with Terry McLeod), CTV News (June 30th, 2010), Stonewall Argus (Jan.27th, 2011 & Jan 22, 2014). The flags continue to positively promote both our museum and their original organizations. As a sign of respect for our flags, we display them in accordance with Canadian Flag Etiquette, as outlined by the Government of Canada. Rev. March 23, 2014 Canadian Flag Collection Flag Acquisition Policy Settlers, Rails & Trails obtains flags from a variety of sources. We generally ask interested parties for a donation of a flag, without the requirement of further monetary contribution. Donors usually choose to have the flag mailed to our museum, however, arrangements could be made for local pick-up. -

Languages and traditions are threatened with extinction. When this happens, unique knowledge, beliefs and histories are wiped out. First Peoples understand well the challenges and tensions that can erode a sense of self and belonging. Yet, they have shown remarkable resilience in both preserving ancient identities and forging new ones. Whether building on the rich textures of the past or fearlessly transforming contemporary fashion, First Nations, Inuit and Métis use clothing to communicate the strength and meaning of their lives. An exploration of First Peoples dress is a compelling and emotional experience – one that must follow interwoven threads of community and spirituality, resistance and accommodation, history and innovation. -

April 28, 2020 Honourable Catherine McKenna Minister of Infrastructure and Communities [email protected] Dear Minister McKenna, We write as twenty (20) business organizations representing a broad cross-section of Manitoba’s economy collectively employing tens of thousands of women and men. Those industries include engineering & consulting, heavy civil and 2 vertical construction, commercial and residential development, manufacturing & exporting, retail, agriculture, commercial trucking and skilled trades. Our appeal to the federal government is that it assist in our provincial economic recovery by accelerating the approvals of and flexibility in the allocation from federal programs. Such measures would enable funding of key Manitoba projects that would immediately procure jobs, build legacy assets and be key instruments in help kick-staring Manitoba’s economy. The above is necessary to help correct the lack of confidence in the economy by all its sectors, the alarm, anxiety and fear of what lies ahead around the corner, and indeed where that corner is. That has led to private-sector projects being deferred or outright canceled. Those decision have resulted in lost jobs, supply and equipment sales, all of which reduces the collective ROI to GDP. Addressing consumer and investor confidence is critical to our recovery. In that regard, we understand the Province of Manitoba has communicated its commitment to flow its capital programs, harnessing investment in infrastructure to help Manitoba’s economy recover. We are told Manitoba has more than $6B in project submissions for the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) with many being shovel ready. We urge the federal government to make the most of the current market conditions - competitive bid prices and extraordinarily low interest rates - to meet the formidable economic challenge in front of us. -

It focusses on a single province – Alberta – and utilizes an inter-disciplinary approach to understand how the interaction between the biological and the psychosocial conditions of the schools contributed to both immediate and chronic health problems for Aboriginal students. Through an examination of nutrition, sanitation, disease, healthcare interventions, and mental health in the schools, it is seen that any “progress” the Department made in regards to the health of students was circular. -

The COVID-19 pandemic dramatically reshaped the experience of the 2020-21 internship cohort relative to previous years. Such changes began with a mostly-virtual orientation in September, and continued with remote work in their MP placements, virtual study tours, and Brown-Bag lunches over Zoom. Yet while limiting some aspects of the PIP experience, the pandemic provided opportunities as well. The interns took full advantage of the virtual format to meet with academics, politicians, and other public figures who were inaccessible to previous cohorts relying on in-person meetings. They also learned new skills for online engagement that will serve them well in the hybrid work environment that is emerging as COVID-19 recedes. One thing the pandemic could not change was the steadfast support of the PIP’s various partners. We are greatly indebted to our sponsors who chose to prioritize their contributions to PIPs despite the many pressures they faced. In addition to their usual responsibilities for the Programme, both the PIP’s House of Commons Liasion, Scott Lemoine, and the Programme Assistant, Melissa Carrier, also worked tirelessly to ensure that the interns were kept up to date on the changing COVID guidance within the parliamentary preccinct, and to ensure that they had access to the resources they needed for remote work. -

Kent McNeil has taught at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto since 1987. He specializes in Indigenous rights, especially in Canada, Australia, and the United States. The Duty to Consult Aboriginal People was prepared by NCFNG research staff. NCFNG supports First Nations as they seek to implement effective, independent governance. The Centre delivers nation rebuilding services to First Nation communities across Canada. NCFNG is an independent service and research organization that is governed and staffed by experienced First Nation professionals. 4 Introduction For thousands of years, the aboriginal people of what is now Canada organized themselves as sovereign nations, with what was essentially gov - ernmental jurisdiction over their lands, including property rights.Those rights — of governance and property — were trampled in the stampede of European settlement, colonization and commercial interests.
