Picasso-this, Picasso-there, on the holiday road.. by Chloé Guennou Under the aegis of Laurent Le Bon, this Picasso Méditerranée cycle intends to weave a real international cartography on the entire Mediterranean rim involving some sixty institutions. In France, it is especially in the south that this is played out with essential and sometimes illusory connections. The Fabre museum that we talked about with "Donner à voir" is a success, as is the Granet museum in Aix, which explores the little-known links between Picabia and Picasso, an original and well- founded approach that our author from the Var region of France has been working on. Godard-Picasso: collages () Let's take a bit of height towards the of Montmajour which overlooks the Crau plain whose origin dates back to the 13th century. Following the Revolution, the city of Arles bought the 3 monastic complexes, classified as Historic Monuments in 1840. Currently restored and managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux, the Abbey of Montmajour is hosting the exhibition "Godard-Picasso: Collages" as part of the Rencontres d'Arles. A little doubtful at first about this rapprochement initiated by the Picasso-Paris National Museum, I must admit that this new reading conducted under the curatorship of Dominique Païni is a success. From the point of view of collage it is possible, as Aragon did in his time, to draw correspondences from the film Pierrot the Madman. For Godard, collage is an aesthetic and spiritual dominant, what his contemporaries call the drift of the quotation. On the occasion of the retrospective that WOAgri in New York and the Centre Pompidou is devoting to him, his meticulous approach is reflected in the models and communication supports and then in the layouts of his book "Histoires du cinéma". Godard also joins Picasso in the hijacking of advertising images, Life and Vogue or Pop'art vein with the actress Macha Méril in "Fragments d'un film tourné", based on photograms from the film. Le Mépris is evoked in connection with Jean-Daniel Pollet's experimental film, Méditerranée, a sort of raw collage. Let us recall that the first collage in the history of painting dates back to Picasso's Still Life with Cane Chair, as Pierre Daix quotes, and that it will have a great influence on his painting and that of his followers. The theme of the Minotaur then becomes central and allows all sorts of metamorphoses. Then the use of photography with André Villers opens new possibilities of manipulation and cutting. Finally, the use of primary colours is a Mediterranean experience for both designers. Van Gogh Foundation: Warm sun, late sun (Arles) In the elegant private mansion restored by the architects of the Fluor agency on the will of Luc Hoffmann, the light radiates over the 1000 m² of the complex and in particular the ceiling structure with the permanent installation of the artist Raphael Hefti, a true signature in the city. Currently the major exhibition "Warm sun, late sun the modern untamed", explores the motif of the sun and for a whole community of artists who find themselves in this motif and field of experimentation. Visual bounces and impeccable grip plunge us into an exciting treasure hunt. Thus from Monticelli to Van Gogh, Picasso, late De Chirico, to current artists Etel Adnan (sublime "Weight of the World"), Sigmar Polke and jazzman Sun Ra, the star inspires, consumes and sometimes devours its followers...
