A Comparison of Researcher's Reference Management Software
Journal of Economics and Behavioral Studies Vol. 6, No. 7, pp. 561-568, July 2014 (ISSN: 2220-6140) A Comparison of Researcher’s Reference Management Software: Refworks, Mendeley, and EndNote Sujit Kumar Basak Durban University of Technology, South Africa [email protected] Abstract: This paper aimed to present a comparison of researcher’s reference management software such as RefWorks, Mendeley, and EndNote. This aim was achieved by comparing three software. The main results of this paper were concluded by comparing three software based on the experiment. The novelty of this paper is the comparison of researcher’s reference management software and it has showed that Mendeley reference management software can import more data from the Google Scholar for researchers. This finding could help to know researchers to use the reference management software. Keywords: Reference management software, comparison and researchers 1. Introduction Reference management software maintains a database to references and creates bibliographies and the reference lists for the written works. It makes easy to read and to record the elements for the reference comprises such as the author’s name, year of publication, and the title of an article, etc. (Reiss & Reiss, 2002). Reference Management Software is usually used by researchers, technologists, scientists, and authors, etc. to keep their records and utilize the bibliographic citations; hence it is one of the most complicated aspects among researchers. Formatting references as a matter of fact depends on a variety of citation styles which have been made the citation manager very essential for researchers at all levels (Gilmour & Cobus-Kuo, 2011). Reference management software is popularly known as bibliographic software, citation management software or personal bibliographic file managers (Nashelsky & Earley, 1991). -

Mendeley: Creating Communities of Scholarly Inquiry Through Research Collaboration Holt Zaugg Richard E. West Isaku Tateishi Daniel L. Randall Abstract Mendeley is a free, web-based tool for organizing research citations and annotating their accompanying PDF articles. Adapting Web 2.0 principles for academic scholarship, Mendeley integrates the management of the research articles with features for collaborating with researchers locally and worldwide. In this article the features of Mendeley are discussed and critiqued in comparison to other, similar tools. These features include citation management, online synchronization and collaboration, PDF management and annotation, and integration with word processing software. The article concludes with a discussion of how a social networking tool such as Mendeley might impact the academic scholarship process. Keywords: social networking, research, online community, Web 2.0, citation management. -

blo gs.lse.ac.uk http://blogs.lse.ac.uk/impactofsocialsciences/2012/07/06/manage-a-research-library-with-zotero/ How to manage a research library with Zotero by Blog Admin July 6, 2012 Keeping up to date with research and managing an ever-increasing number of journal articles is skill that must be well-honed by academics. Here, Alex Hope sets out how his workflow has developed using Zotero, Dropbox, Goodreader and his iPad. Article Discovery I use a variety of methods to keep on top of research in my f ield, and to search f or articles when preparing a paper or presentation. Foremost is the use of RSS f eeds to deliver alerts of new articles in journals I f ollow. I use Google Reader to manage my f eeds and usually browse through new f eed articles using Flipboard on my iPad or iPhone. If I come across an interesting article that I think I may like to read and use, I email myself the link. This means that when I check my email every morning, I can navigate to the article and save it in my ref erence manager f or reading and marking up. If I am researching a paper, I tend to search journal repositories such as Web of Knowledge, although more of ten than not I f ind Google Scholar f inds what I need quickly and accurately. Finally I am f inding that Twitter is a f antastic resource f or uncovering new research as an increasing number of researchers and research groups have a presence. -

ORCID: https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0766-2763 Email: [email protected] ACCEPTED MANUSCRIPT ABSTRACT Graduate students at the University of Manitoba were surveyed to find out if they used reference management software (RMS), features used, challenges and barriers to using RMS. Interest in different types of PDF management features and training options were also investigated. Both users and non-users of reference management software were invited to participate. Non-users managed their citations and references with a variety of other tools. The principal reasons for non-use were that students were not aware of options that were available, and the amount of time needed to learn the program. RMS users also mentioned the steep learning curve, problems with extracting metadata from PDFs, technical issues, and problems with inaccurate citation styles. Most of the students saved PDF documents to their computer. Students were most interested in full-text searching of PDFs, automatic renaming of PDFs, and automatically extracting citation metadata from a PDF. -
Diskusi Online : Manajemen Referensi (Aplikasi Mendeley) Dalam Penulisan Karya Ilmiah
DISKUSI ONLINE : MANAJEMEN REFERENSI (APLIKASI MENDELEY) DALAM PENULISAN KARYA ILMIAH Eka Astuty1, Elpira Asmin2, & Eka Sukmawaty3 1,2Fakultas Kedokteran, Universitas Pattimura 3Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi, UIN Alauddin Makassar Email: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] ABSTRACT : One of the requirements for students to achieve a bachelor's degree is to write scientific papers. Bibliography and citations are important elements in writing scientific papers. The arrangement of these two things is done manually or by application. Mendeley is a commonly used citation software. This activity was carried out online using the zoom application because during the Covid-19 pandemic, direct socialization or outreach activities could not be carried out because of the suggestion of Physical distancing. During the presentation of the material, discussion participants were invited to ask questions. The discussion participants were very enthusiastic and there were many questions submitted, including reference sources that could be used in writing scientific papers and the types of writing styles found in the Mendeley application. Community service activities in the form of online discussions about reference management (Mendeley Application) in writing scientific papers are expected to provide knowledge and information specifically for participants who are final year students. This online discussion is expected to also become a forum to refresh knowledge about reference management for participants who are lecturers. -

We present BibBase, a system for publishing and managing bibliographic data available in BiBTeX files. BibBase uses a powerful yet light-weight approach to transform BiBTeX files into rich Linked Data as well as custom HTML code and RSS feed that can readily be integrated within a user’s website while the data can instantly be queried online on the system’s SPARQL endpoint. In this paper, we present an overview of several features of our system. We outline several challenges involved in on-the-fly transformation of highly heterogeneous BiBTeX files into high-quality Linked Data, and present our solution to these challenges.
