At 5:17 p.m. on May 8, 1927, French pilots François Coli and Charles Nungesser started up their biplane, “L'Oiseau Blanc”, at Paris' Le Bourget Airport. Their destination: New York City. And a fabulous prize of 25,000 dollars for the world's first non-stop flight across the Atlantic.
As the story goes, they were seen for the last time above the picturesque cliffs of Étretat. But the myths and legends that have grown up around the two pioneers all say: You are simply unique.

By the way: Less than two weeks after the Frenchmen, a certain Charles Lindbergh jumped into his airplane in New York. Around 33 hours later, he landed in Paris and accepted the 25,000-dollar prize. The French gave him a hero's welcome. We think that is classy, too.
