PRESIDENT’S REPORT

It’s hard to know where to start as I sit down and think about the season that was 2020. The year where everything seemed to go against us, the season where if it could go wrong it did, and the season that was the longest shortest season in our history. All this while being my first year as the club president, taking on the role after our long serving Ex-President John Grealy (16 years) moved on to take on the role of General Manager of the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs junior league, he was certainly a hard act to follow and maintain the level that the club had been at in his tenure. Let’s just say that it certainly was a year that tested myself in many ways, both physically and mentally as we had many obstacles thrown in our path just to get on the field. In the end through hard work and perseverance we managed to not only get the kids on the field, we achieved many things off the field that can only benefit our club in the future, making it a successful year considering.

We started the year in the usual fashion with organising our coaches managers and trainers, arranging pre-season training and trial matches, and arranging the kids into age groups so that we could hit the ground running in April for the first competition games. We were all aware of what was happening in the world with the dreaded COVID 19, but who could of dreamt of what it could possibly do to junior sports across the country as we were shut down after only playing one trial. Our hearts sank as did that of all involved as we were thrown into complete lockdown. With the uncertainty of whether we would even get off the ground the committee still had work to do. Communicating with coaches and trainers to put kids into teams that would best suit them. We stayed in close contact with the junior league and awaited constant updates from the GOVT with advice on if we could get a season in at all, all be it a shortened one.

Fortunately, after weeks of uncertainty. It was decided that we could recommence junior sport under heavy restrictions as long as our club had an approved COVID plan and stuck to it for the remainder of the year. Training recommenced on the 1st of July with the first competition game scheduled for 18th July. The excitement was soon squashed as we had another scare and further two weeks delay due to an outbreak of the dreaded C word. Our season finally kicked off on the 1st of August. A time that we are usually starting semis and finals.

Through the year as stated before we had many things that seemed to pop up to test us. We all know the main one, so I won’t mention it again. We had the alarm system that would not stop going off. Eventually after many phone calls and council servicemen coming out it was discovered to be a faulty motion sensor and the problem was solved. We had the blown light towers on the creek side of the field, which caught on fire rendering them unusable for a few nights of training. We then had the lights completely Vandalised with a thief ripping all the copper wiring out of the light poles, a situation that could have potentially stopped our teams from training for a few weeks. Fortunately, council managed to fix them within a couple of days with minimal disruption to our teams.

Through all the adversity we managed to have what most would consider a very successful year and achieved some great results both on and off the field. Off the field we introduced Eftpos at the club, which from all reports was well overdue and a welcome addition in the modern cashless society we live in. We revamped our club website into a more modern and informative platform for information about our club and its history. We updated this weekly with game times and venues along with any other information that we thought would benefit our club and its members. We completed all the modules for NSWRL which enabled us to become a Blue shield club, something not many clubs have achieved across the state. We have also made considerable movements towards hopefully building a new clubhouse in the near future.

On the field we had considerable success. We fielded 23 teams in total ranging from u5s through to our 18s boys. We had two girls’ teams with our 18s girls and our first ever 15s girls league tag team. Our non-competitive teams played the game with the right attitude and developed their skills along the way. Well done to all coaches. Out of our 15 competitive teams, we had 5 that made it in to a Grand Final and 3 of those (11-1s,12-2s and 13 Gold) went on to claim the prize and take out the premiership. Unfortunately, the 14s Gold and 18 Girls went down. You can’t win them all. The rest of our teams did themselves and our club proud. Who knows in a full year with proper semis we could possibly have won a few more.

Another of our bigger achievements was that we took out the International Club Champions award and was also awarded the Overall Club Champions in our junior league. A great result and testament to the efforts of not only our players, but the efforts of our coaches, managers and trainers for their dedication and hard work mentoring them on and off the field. Well done to all.

Now on to the thankyous, * Firstly, our players, without you we don’t have a club. You represented us every week the way all teams should play the game. * Our Coaches Managers and trainers, your work is always appreciated. * All our major sponsors, Especially Charlie from CPE , Zac from SCMTS Arbor Works, Bill from APS Plumbing and Michael from Daystar First National Real Estate. Along with all our other sponsors who generously donate to make our club what it is today. * A huge thank you must go to our hard-working canteen managers Mette and Katia. Along with the canteen angels Jane, Nikki, Nyree and Kylie. Outstanding work ladies. *Big thanks to my Dad Ken, who has taken the clubs photos for as long as I can remember and worked on the honour boards in the clubhouse. * A big thanks to the grounds committee for all the work through the year, we continue to be the best run ground in the district. *Big Thanks especially Cameron (marketing and sponsorship) Paul (Covid Officer) and Steve (VP) who is the brains behind the Eftpos and Webpage and any other technical problems. * Thanks to Greals for always giving advice when needed. * A big thanks to my wife Nyree who supported me in every way this year. I would have been more of a mess than I already was without your constant help. * Lastly to our secretary Chris, I leant on this guy so much this year in every way. The work that he did to get the teams on the field was first class. Not only is he a great secretary but a great mate.

Hope to see all the players back for next year and hopefully we can enjoy a full season without all the drama that was 2020.

Go the Saints.….

SECRETARIES REPORT

2020 kicked off for us administrators with a whole new registration system that was going to make it all easier for us. The NRL wanted to streamline rego’s across the board and introduced MyLeague. For some of us, it was having to adjust to changes from the previous system, but there was a lot of work to do in the background. We had to reinvigorate our website, which was previously part of the old system, and lucky our IT guru Steve Klem was on board to do that, grabbing everything out of the archives, and creating a new version to get us online for the moment, and leaving it open for improvement. Now that we have a popular Facebook page, most of our announcements are easy to go through both platforms. Great work Klemmy!

Back to the rego’s... myself, Nyree Hanratty and Nikki Zanbaka, (who came along with me to learn the new MyLeague system at a training night) all agreed it was going to help and prove positive. The girls picked it up perfectly giving me the confidence to give them access to help out whenever I was too busy or unavailable. Basically now, all we needed was a database of players, and fingers crossed, we could marry the new rego’s with old ones, eliminating duplications. It did on most occasions, and when it didn’t, we knew why and also knew how to fix it! I appreciate your support girls, you helped me out heaps!

Everything then happened within the blink of an eye. We had our trials set, we were in pre-season training, we were ready to go to kick off the season, then the dreaded pandemic hit town, and everything changed. More questions were asked of us, as we relied on instructions from the NSWRL and then more work was created for us in creating COVID plans for both training and game days. We appointed Paul Morse as our COVID Officer, and with help from people like Nyree, Mette and the rest of the committee we could come back to somewhat of normality. Lo and behold, the season kicked off, answering all those questions of “will it or won’t it?

Having John Grealy at the helm for the whole time I’ve been on the committee, in fact, the whole time I’ve been at the club, it’s amazing how much he knew and done around the place without anyone really knowing. With him moving into the General Manager’s role at the Junior Bulldogs, myself and new president Grant Hanratty knew we had to lift our socks up and cover that hole left by Greals. We had that trust and working relationship between us that got us there. Having been Greal’s secretary for the previous years, I knew what had to happen and when, which helped Grant deliver what he had to do. We then had the committee right behind us and ready to do whatever we needed them to do!

I’d like to thank Grant for the season, we bounced off each other and worked together how needed, and built our friendship to a new level! I’d also like to thank the rest of the committee. You all know what you did throughout the year, so I won’t break it down, but thank you. The canteen ladies, mainly Mette & Katia, plus the other extra helpers who would cover when need be, you are worth your weight in gold. Ken Hanratty for all he done around the place, including all the maintenance work and photos. All our sponsors, both old and new, your support never goes unnoticed! And my right-hand lady Nyree (otherwise known as the First Lady), thank you for helping me with paperwork, registrations, distribution of gear and everything else you done!

Mainly my thanks go to all our players and members... come back, enjoy the game and enjoy the club! We are not Club Champions for no reason, and we would not be without you all showing up, registering, training, playing, and supporting us!

COACH’S REPORT

It is with great pleasure that I report on the Under 5’s team for 2020. With both a rookie coach and trainer, a slow start to the year due to no trials, two bye rounds and COVID, we finally took to the paddock.

At the end of the first game I realised what a great bunch of kids we had. Even though we only had one reserve all year, the team managed to get through the whole season and even the double headers (which we were fortunate enough to play) with ease. This was a team with every type of personality including: the confident one, the silent but deadly, the one that is always picking fights, one that loves cheering on the rest of the team and the one that is off with the fairy’s. Jeremy and I were lucky enough to be out on the field with these kids and found the season very rewarding.

The catch-up rounds (double headers) really showed how disciplined the kids were, as two games over three hours is a huge ask for 4 and 5-year-olds to play. With most of the team lacing a boot for the first time, and only two team members having played last year, we managed to get through the season with only one loss. I am really proud of the players for the effort they put in during every game. We had plenty of bumps and bruises this year and even a couple of bleeding noses, but they kept getting up to play the ball each week. I look forward to watching these kids develop over the next few years and hope that they remain friends and stay together as a team.

I would like to thank Dani and Megan who answered the SOS and stepped in as managers, they did a fantastic job. I know Jeremy found his calling and can see him around the club for a long time!

Thank you to the parents for their commitment to bringing their kids down to training and games each week. Without you we would not have had a team.

Finally, a big thank you to the club and committee members who supported us through this unprecedented season. Hopefully, it’s business as usual next year.

PLAYER PROFILES

Sahara El-Chami: Sassy Sahara never took a backward step against the boys. She played on her own terms, often in her own little world, but demanded the ball whenever she was ready to run the length of the field and score a try. Her confidence often rattled the opposition. Always full of energy, Sahara was very entertaining to watch as she ripped up the field. She was one of our fastest players and also made some fantastic tackles this season. Well done Sahara! The sky is the limit for you!

Owen Weir: Outstanding Owen was one of our youngest and most improved players of the season. One of the teams highlights was watching Owen run the length of the field in one of the last games. This was a huge achievement for Owen in his first year of footy and we can’t wait to see him in action next year! It has been a delight watching you come out of your shell this year and seeing you work harder every game. Keep up the great work Owen!

Byron Clancy: Baby Byron was definitely not the smallest, but was our youngest player in the team. At four years old, Byron took a little while to warm up the older kids but he was by far the most encouraging team member. He was always cheering his team members on and even managed to score a few tries throughout the season. Byron also developed a great palm in his attack. He has such a gentle, caring soul that the whole team admired! Great effort and thank for the support you showed your whole team! Good luck next year!

Joshua Separa: Jaw-dropper Joshua was shy to begin the season, but quickly came out of his shell and became one of our most talented players. The team could always rely on Joshua to have a big run, score tries, and consistently support his teammates whilst in both attack and defence. We see a huge potential in Josh and have no doubt he will continue to improve his skill set and be fantastic footy player in the future. It has been great watching you play this season Josh!

Lucas Dib: Loveable Lucas was our smallest player and seemed to love being on the field and trying his best every game. When Lucas had the ball in our last few games, there was no stopping his side step as he baffled the opposition. He was also one of our most improved players and began to show some of his full potential towards the end of the season. It was a pleasure to watch your game improve Lucas! Keep up the great work and we hope to see you next year!

Caysan-James Fa’anoi: Captivating Caysan was a stand out of the team. Having played last year, he brought confidence to his own game as well as his teammates. Caysan has a huge love for and put in 100% effort every game. His attack and defence was paramount to the success of the team. He consistently made the most tackles and most tries every game. No doubt an NRL player in the making. Thanks for putting on a show every game Caysan! You are an absolute pleasure to watch!

Ruby Faanu: Rocket Ruby was one of the most consistent players of the season. Being her first year of footy, Ruby was naturally shy, but very talented and showed confidence from game one as soon as she set foot on the field. She was determined to score every time she ran the ball as she sped past opposition. Throughout the season, Ruby’s cover defence game improved and she worked hard to make some big tackles. Well done Ruby! We are looking forward to see where your talent takes you!

COACH’S REPORT

Wow! How lucky were we all to have seen this season go ahead given all the trials and tribulations of that nasty C word (Covid-19…..yuck!). I don’t think there was one parent who wasn’t over the moon to see their child finally take to the field at the start of our delayed season.

We had a team made up of fresh players as well as a few who had a couple of years experience. To be honest, it didn’t take the boys long to get to know each other and bond as a team. It was great to see the boys make each other feel included and welcomed.

With a great bunch of boys came a great bunch of parents! I have always stressed that respect and a good attitude starts off the field with the parents, safe to say I think we struck gold with this team. Whether winning or losing they still put 100% effort into every game, and they all came off the field with a smile on their face. This team of young boys have a lot of potential to be the best if they stick together over the years to come. I really cannot be any prouder of the way they conducted themselves and the skills they produced not only in defense but in attack also.

I’d like to thank our committee and club for making this year’s season possible, I know there was a lot of behind the scenes work and endless hours spent trying to make our club a COVID safe one. That was all on top of everything else you do to keep our club running smoothly, just know that it doesn’t go unnoticed and it is greatly appreciated!

To our manager Joanne and trainer Darren, I couldn’t have coached these boys to their full potential or had such a smoothly run team without you both. It goes to show how far commitment can get you, thank you both!

Thanks for a great season U6 Blue Team!

PLAYER PROFILES

Addison Togagae-Faanu: Addison was new to football this year and started out shy. Once we worked a little closer with Addison, he became unstoppable with his strong hard running and a good tackling technique! Well done Addison!

Aydan Ama-Ngavavia: For his first year of football, Aydan was always willing to listen and learn. He learnt how to run hard at the line but also became the best at offloading a pass to his teammates. His defense got better and better as the season went on. Well done Aydan!

Braye Tatham: This year Braye entered his 3rd year of footy, he showed good signs of improvement by making and assisting in tackles. Braye always supported his team mates right up until the try line when they broke the defense line. Well done Braye!

Carter Phelps: Carter played great football this season with a natural step he proves dangerous to the opposition with plenty of tries scored for this year. Carter showed he isn’t afraid to make a tackle making many great tackles this year. Well done Carter!

Deon Moran: Another good year of football from Deon. He is one of the quiet achievers as he doesn’t say too much but when he is on the footy field, he gets the job done with lightning speed and the ability to make tackles when needed. Well done Deon!

George Johnson: George had a great year this year, Setting the bar for everyone else in the team. George showed his ability to make perfect tackles every time. He also has great vision and step to find the try line to score plenty of points for his team. Well done George!

Nathaniel Dib: This was Nates second year of football this year and it was a good one. He always troubles the opposition with his crunching tackles and hard running. Well done Nate!

Phoenix Berry: It was phoenix first year of football, he was the youngest on the team also. Phoenix showed great signs of being a great footballer in the years to come. He always put his body on the line to make a tackle no matter how big the opposition was. Well done Phoenix!

Ryan Kelleher: Ryan had great first year of football, he is another one of our players that has a great natural step to score plenty of points for his team. He also has lots of speed to chasse down the opposition and make tackles if needed. Well done Ryan!

Back Row: Andrew Sheehy (Manager), Andrew Mortimer (Coach), Ben Barrett (Trainer) Middle Row: Nash Sherwin, Harrison Mortimer, Xavier Bates, Ezra Dixon Front Row: Isaiah Sleiman, Samuel Walsh, Vaughan Barrett, Nicholas Sheehy, Fouad Alameddine Absent: Alison Sheehy (Manager)

COACH’S REPORT

2020, What a year! For Under 6 White, the second year of Rugby League for most of the boys and a season that at a stage was a strong chance of not occurring. I’m so happy for the team and the club that we were able to have a footy season.

We had 3 new players joining our 6 returning squad members. Ezra Dixon and Sam Walsh played their first year of Rugby League. Both improved dramatically as they learnt the key skills. Ezra’s bullish runs in the last few games often bumping off a couple of players before scoring or being tackled highlighted the development our team experienced this season.

Sam unfortunately missed most of the year but returned for the last round scoring a fantastic try using his natural pace. His long-term injury freed up some salary cap space for us to secure our mid-season signing from the Greenacre Grasshoppers, Fouad Alameddine. Fouad was a welcome addition and had a great few games, particularly against his former club.

The bash brothers from St Christopher’s primary school Xavier Bates and Harrison Mortimer displayed their defensive prowess throughout the season in both front on and cover defence. This gave our team a great platform on which to build pressure on the opposition. With our defence solid it freed up space for our speed men in Nicholas Sheehy and Vaughan Barrett to score a number of length of the field tries.

Our teams two most enigmatic players Nash Sherwin and Isaiah Sleiman made fantastic contributions and improved dramatically. Nash proved harder to stop than the corona virus, scoring a number of tries often beating opposition players a couple of times with his footwork. Isaiah scored one of the more memorable tries this season against Greenacre when he stepped and danced his way down the touchline before darting back in field to ensure an easier conversion.

The weekly mini games against Under 6 Blue at the end of training no doubt contributed to the improvement and skills of both sides. Thankyou to Kurt and the team for our regular training and I’ve enjoyed watching your team progress as well. Thank you to Andrew Sheehy and Ben Barrett for managing and training the team again this year. You both make it easy to turn up week to week for the boys.

To the parents of Under 6 White, I hope all the boys enjoyed their footy this year, learnt some new skills and made some mates. I look forward to seeing them back up in 2021 for what we all hope is a smoother season. Thankyou for working with Andrew, Ben, myself and the club by following the rules for play this year RE: COVID to ensure we were able to have a season.

To the boys in Under 6 White, it was a lot of fun coaching you this year. Enjoy your summer sport, eat your veggies and see you 2021.

PLAYER PROFILES

Fouad Alameddine: Fouad joined us mid-season having played with Greenacre. Initially a little shy but he soon warmed up and fit right in. Fouad has natural pace when he gets going and scored a number of great tries early in his time in the team. It was a pleasure to coach you this year Fouad.

Vaughan Barrett: Vaughan is a Rugby League allrounder. Tackled everything that moved, scored tries, backed up and never shirked it against bigger players (which is most of his opponents). For all his ability what impresses me most about Vaughan is his toughness. I can’t recall a time when he would get hit or injured that he didn’t quickly get up and get back into it. Well done on a great footy season Vaughan.

Xavier Bates: I don’t think I’ve seen better cover defence at any age than some of the tackles Xavier pulled off this season. Xavier scored a number of great tries this year and in a short time we have come to expect that of him, but his defence is the foundation on which he will build his Rugby league Career. A pleasure to coach and his enthusiasm for the game is contagious. A great year Xavier!

Ezra Dixon: In Ezra’s first year of Rugby League he has gone from a happy go lucky boy to a key part of our attack. His runs toward the end of the year showed how much he has listened and developed. Pulled off some great front on defence as well. I can see that there is a toughness to him that will continue to develop as he grows with footy. Thanks for joining the team this year Ezra, I can’t wait to see your continued improvement.

Harrison Mortimer: Harry is often the most enthusiastic member of our side. Already a competent footy player, Harry improved significantly this season to become the bedrock of our defence. I was so pleased that our team would often complete a defensive set against good opposition and this had a lot to do with Harry. Scored some great tries this year as well by pushing through a lot of defence. Well done mate on a great footy season.

Nicholas Sheehy: Nicky had a great footy season this year. He has natural pace and when he decided to run straight at a gap it was rare for the opposition to stop him. Another team member that oozes enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. His defensive efforts improved this year and he stopped a number of good opponents on the spot when he wanted. You’re a pleasure to coach Nicky and I’m sure you will continue to be a key member of the team next year. Well done!

Nash Sherwin: It took a number of conversations with Nash’s dad Brent to convince him to strap the boots on for 2020. Perhaps the delayed start convinced him. A breakout year for Nash in both defence and attack. He scored some of the most scintillating tries this year with great footwork and pace. I’m most pleased about his defensive efforts, I think he has worked out that tackling is fun. Not good news for our opponents. Great year Nash and hope your stick with footy in 2021.

Isaiah Sleiman: Isaiah improved in leaps and bounds this year. Another boy with some good pace when he has a crack. Scored a couple of really good tries. He is a clever player and as he grows I’m sure we will see someone who could be wearing a number 6 or 7 in years to come. Well done on your improvement this year Isaiah, excellent season.

Samuel Walsh: Sam only got to play two games with the team this year due to injury unfortunately. Despite this the effort and contribution, he made in our last match against St George Dragons was great to see. He scored a pearler of a try and chased everyone in a Dragons jersey in defence. Like a number of his teammates he possesses natural pace which is a great asset for any Rugby League footballer. I look forward to Sam having a full season in 2021. Thanks Sam.

And to the victor go the spoils…..

COACH’S REPORT

2020 Season: The season of Covid! With an odd start to the season, it turned out to be an eventful and fun year, with a few new inclusions to our squad, strengthening our attack and defence, the boys played and trained well. Building and following on from last year, there were improvements throughout, individually and as a team. As the coach it’s nice to see the boys having fun and getting it done with a few laughs along the way! Bring on 2021!

MANAGER’S REPORT

It has been my pleasure to be a part of this team this season. A beautiful bunch of boys who always support & encourage each other. They are great mates and displayed wonderful sportsmanship throughout the season. They trained hard & never gave up in their games. Thank you to our amazing Coach Damo for his tireless work, & to our Trainers Clint & Vai for all their effort with the boys. Also a big thanks to our parents for their support & those famous lolly bags at the end of each game! Dani

Finally, thanks to our club, training and support group, the big brothers of the team, our coaching staff, manager, and most of all our parents for continuously supporting our team each week, it was an awesome season of footy, and hope to see you all next season. Coach ‘D’

PLAYER PROFILES

Isaac Aad: Isaac was one of the new inclusions to our team and is a superstar in the making. With his natural and raw talent on display, every touch of the ball, every defensive decision was made with such precision and timing, it led to a tally of try’s and some brilliant tackles! A pleasure to coach and one to watch in the future.

Kyle Baker: Returning for another season at the Saints, Kyle’s passion for his team always drives him to improve. Gone are the tears and fears of last season and strides a confident and keen footy player. Always running hard to gain precious meters for his team, and with improved tackle technique, Kyle made some outstanding defensive plays.

Haitham Elcheikh: Haitham is a natural footy player, tough and as hard as they come! With talent in all areas of his game, Haitham scored some great individual try’s, and some magnificent try saving tackles. His improvement is his best asset always keen to perfect a step or a tackle style.

Max Gaughan: Coaching Max for a second season, it was easy to see he had worked on his game in the off season. Max trained hard and played harder! His straight, hard and fast style of footy, left many of his opposition seconding guessing. A true leader and inspiring player, always spurring on his team mates to run and tackle hard.

Viliami Lolohea-Tema: Willy is always a pleasure to have at training, keeping it fun and working hard. Late in the season last year, Willy adopted a devastating side step, which he brought to this season, ripping through the middle of the defence to score some unbelievable try’s. Always keen, always willing to step up for his team when needed.

Houd Makhfi: Houd is easily one of the smallest in our team but is full of courage and heart. Fearless in tackles and always scouting for a gap to step into, to gain the advantage for his team. Full of life at training and always keeping the team on their toes, one of the most improved players of the season and will be one to keep an eye on next year.

Callan Mitchell: Size, speed and energy are Callan’s greatest attributes. Callan runs with never ending energy and that energy led to several tries. Callan would always chase down opposition who broke through the line and always back up his teammates until the final whistle. Callan has a passion for winning and would always give 110%.

Awatea Salt: Awa worked on his basic skills in the off season and mastered them. Showing off some copy book sideline tackles, a mesmerising left-foot step, he scored some spectacular tries. Awa’s passion for footy and his team mates always keep him keen to train, try new things and conjure up some moves to get the edge over his opponents.

Isaiah Vili: Big in stature, big in heart! Isaiah was always a pleasure to have around at training, his cheeky ways always kept training fun and the boys enjoyed being around him. With huge potential, Isaiah was always feared on the field but would not hurt a fly, but he soon found himself flying through the defence scoring some awesome try’s, which ignited a flame within, leading to the release of his potential.

Finn Wardman: Finn was a late inclusion to our team and only played a handful of games. He was unsure of the game but got the basics on lock and never looked back. Straight runs and fearless defence was the game plan for Finn, and with these basic tools he made his mark in the team, shining through week to week with the biggest smile.

WHAT AN AWESOME SEASON, WELL DONE BOYS!!

MANAGER’S REPORT

It was a great please managing the team this year and seeing all the boys come into form, bringing their own elements to the game this year. We had a few rough patches throughout the season but they were all excited just to be out there on the field. This year was a hard year due to the global circumstances but we all made the most of it. Hopefully, next year is a better season all-round and I look for to being there.

I want to extend a big thanks to our coach Kevin Hannouche and trainer Anthony Mannah for the great effort and patience they have with the boys and for guiding them in the right direction. They have been there for the boys week in and week out and it has been great working alongside them.

I would also like to thank the parents for bringing the boys to training and the games every week and for stepping up and helping out when required. I hope to see you all back next year.

A big thanks to the club and all its volunteers as without your great efforts this year would not have been possible.

PLAYER PROFILES

Joseph Ayoub: Joseph is one of the most improved players this year, grasping the concept of the game and leading the way in defence.

Anthony Chahda: Anthony has shown the ability to lead and not be afraid to put his body on the line with big hits and tackles.

James Dib: James has improved a lot this year with his tackles, runs and commitment to the game. His improvement to the game has been second to none. Jayden El-Chalouhi: Jayden’s speed and positive output to the team sprit was commendable. Keep up the good work and commitment.

Matthew Ganeme: Matthew is very committed to the team and the ability to be anywhere on the field. Keep up the great work and enthusiasm.

Eli Hannouche: Eli Passion for footy has proven to be an asset to the team. He is always willing to take the ball up and not afraid of the big hits or giving them back.

Patrick Khoury: Patrick has shown a great improvement since last year coming of his shell and pushing himself to achieve more and more. Keep it up.

Gabriel Latu: Gabriel has improved in his running game moving the team forward and making metre and a great impact. He has been a great asset to the team. Keep moving forward.

Billy Mannah: Billy has had great defence and attack this year. His ability to make the metres and score tries has been great for the team.

SPONSOR APPRECITION

This is the 10th year Charlie from CPe Australia has been involved with our club through his son Peter, playing since he was 6. Charlie was trainer in Peter’s first year (and still is, but now a Level 1 Sports Trainer) and sponsored the u6’s that year with tracksuits for all the players and coaching staff!

He has not taken a backward step and has been a very generous contributor to us here at Saints! He’s helped have a say with our on and off-field gear designs, which is probably the best in the comp, and along with his business partner Pat, will never say no if we ever reached out to them!

Thanks for being a fantastic sponsor, and we look forward to many fruitful years ahead, even though this 2020 has been a year from hell!! UNDER 7-2

COACH’S REPORT

What a great season I had with these awesome bunch of kids. They all showed great teamwork and played to the best of their abilities.

I hope to see you guys still playing next year.

I would just like to thank Paul Winterstein and Corey Gardiner for coaching alongside me, and also to our parents/families for bringing them to training always and providing them with our after-game snacks. Greatly appreciated. PLAYER PROFILES

Thomas Bettison: Our support man. This boy was always supporting calling for offloads and scored a couple of hectic tries off the back of them.

Ayden Katieh: Tackling Machine. First time playing this year and this kid was outstanding on attack and defence. His efforts were always 100%. Well deserving of our best and fairest award.

Leila-J Lagasila: Full of potential. Another first timer, Leila showed speed and aggression and got better as the season progressed.

Christopher Pedron: Little Croker. With the head gear to match this little Croker ended up being a weapon on defence with his awesome tackling skills.

Iriana Tohilima Gardiner: Go Getter. Another first timer, Iriana wasn’t shy to tackle and run. She always gave it 100%. Aidan Weir: Big don’t argue. Aidan is one of the toughest kids I have come across. This kid just got better and better as the season went on. Well deserving of our Coaches Award.

Elinthia West: Quiet Achiever. Elinthia was our smallest player but had brilliant skills. Her change of pace always fooled the opposition which enabled her to cross the try line plenty of times.

Cayden Winterstein: Try scoring machine. This kid is a weapon on defence and attack. He scored 14 tries off limited runs from his dad hahaha and ended up being our Top try scorer.

Ryder Yelverton: Speedster. Ryder showed his pace throughout the year scoring some great tries as well as some great tackles.

COACH’S REPORT

This was my first year coaching the boys and I came in with two objectives. One was for the boys to learn a thing or two and the other was for them to have fun. Things almost didn’t get off the ground with the COVID breakout, but I want to thank the club and committee for all their hard work in making the year happen for the boys. Once the season kicked off, we came up against Milperra Colts and the boys scored 50 points and didn’t concede, it was at that point that I knew that I had a special bunch of boys. The season was very successful with only the one loss coming against a very good St Johns team and I know that the boys took away a very good lesson – that it’s a team game and that a great team will always beat team of great players. I want to thank the parents for all the time they invested in bringing their children to training and games and the support that you gave to our team and the club. Abdul, Sam, Brent and Matt thanks for assisting at training. To Jane for being our team manager and organising our wattsapp group, attending all meetings and the other countless jobs you do I want to say a massive thank you. My right-hand man Bill, the bad cop to my good cop. Thanks mate, the boys and I really appreciate all the time and effort you put in trying to make us better, tougher and meaner. Upon reflection I think the two objectives I set out were not only met but, in some ways, exceeded my expectations. I am looking forward to our first year of competitive football next year and continuing to help the boys learn and have fun. I hope to see you all next year. Go the Saints!

PLAYER PROFILES

Dexter Phelps: Dex was given the responsibility of leading the team around the park this year as first receiver and he excelled in this role. Dexter absolutely loves the game and for someone so young he has skills that some NRL players would be jealous of. Dex was our second highest try scorer and had a 100% goal kicking record, kicking seven goals. Great year Dex

Moin Moussa: Mo is an outstanding athlete. He has speed to burn and when he hits in defence they stay hit. Mo was our top try scorer with an amazing 20 tries and won us a few games on his own. I’m looking forward to watching and assisting in Mo’s development. Awesome stuff Mo.

Fadi Sabbagh: The smallest guy in our team but the biggest heart. Fadi was given the responsibility of being our dummy half this year and never let us down. Fadi doesn’t take a backwards step and took down some of the biggest boys in the comp. A cheeky kid who scored some even cheekier tries and left us with one of the moments of the season when he kicked his first goal.

Braxton Sherwin: Brax returned from a serious leg injury this year and grew in confidence as the year went on. Brax is a skilful kid and very good goal kicker (when he doesn’t rush!!). Brax showed great skill and versatility when put in at dummy half or first receiver and scored an amazing try in the last game of the year with some awesome foot work. Keep up the good work Brax.

Aiden Pearce: Aiden got better and better as the year went on. Aiden caused devastation in the opposition defence every time he carried the ball. Aiden left many opposing defenders on the ground with his big left hand fend and continued to develop his offload. Aiden can be something special if he realises how big he is and how to channel his aggression. Great year Aiden.

Frank Flynn: Frank the tank gave defenders nightmares when he ran straight and hard. Frank delivered one of the best performances of the year when he scored a hattrick against Chester Hill. Frank produced some great offloads that led to tries and never shirked responsibility in defence. Frank is a great kid and could be anything if he keeps listening and working hard. Great stuff Frank!

Parker Wight: Parker showed glimpses of just how good he can be this year. Parker is big enough and skilful enough to match it with the best. Parker is a very handy goalkicker and has a great offload but is another player who needs to learn to channel his aggression to go to the next level. Keep working hard Park!

Oliver McAndrew: Oliver is only slightly built but when he puts his mind to it, can belt the biggest players. Ollie has speed to burn and scored some great tries this year using his speed and footwork. Ollie will continue to improve as his confidence grows. Keep believing in your ability Ollie.

Zac Khallouf: Zac is in competition with Fadi for smallest player in our team but no one matches Zac for toughness. Zac is a player who would run through brick walls if I asked him too. Zac is a great kid who I really enjoyed coaching. Hope to see you next year Zac.

Jacob Hantour: Jacob was new to the club this year but fitted in straight away. Jacob is another player whose game developed as his confidence grew. Jacob scored some great tries and produced some of the best tackles this year. Keep working hard Jacob.

Xavier Cope: X-man was given two very important jobs this year. One was to be our back up first receiver and the other was to lead our team song, both he did superbly. X was outstanding at organising the runners and knowing the right time to run and when to pass and his team song got better and louder each week. Thanks X-man.

COACH’S REPORT

What an amazing season from the boys! They continued to get better every single week and finished the season off with their best performance of the year! They were such an entertaining team to watch play and loved to offload in every tackle they could – they wanted to score tries on every play! The team ended the year with 5 Wins, 2 losses and a Draw. I look forward to seeing all the boys back next year for another fun season!

PLAYER PROFILES

Nicholas Coorey: In Nicholas first year as an “NRL” player he had amazing season! Nicholas had great vision playing DH or FR and knew exactly what needed to be done on each play. The highlight came in the last game when Nicholas came back from a bleeding nose in the first quarter (and passed a HIA) to score 2 tries and kick a goal

Evander Zanzoul: Another first year player whose tries made the highlight reel every week – not just for his amazing POST try celebrations, but also his PRE-TRY Celebrations!! Evander’s speed and elusiveness made him hard to stop on every run. His last line defence as fullback saved many tries throughout the year

Adam El Rozz: The little Tank! Adam learned more about the game every single week and his performances improved week after week. Adam was always the first one moving up to tackle, and was always hard to stop when he was running. Quote of the year went to Adam for telling the other boys in the team to “Leave their big kid to me!”

Jordan Assaly: Super Boot Jordan! Jordan’s booming kick-offs ensured we always had the other team down their own end of the field. In attack, Jordan had many barnstorming runs right through the middle of the other teams and always got our team on the front foot.

Cameron Sheehy: Mr Consistency, Cameron led by example and put in his best efforts in week in and week out. If he wasn’t scoring tries, he was setting them up or saving them! Our top tackler of the year, Cameron led the boys in how to tackle and did it in every game. And who could forget that intercept try!

Hayden Stubbs: Another player who really improved throughout the season. Once Hayden got the ball in hand and threw out that big right hand fend he was hard to stop. Hayden’s goal kicking was a highlight of the year, kicking 5 goals from 6 attempts.

Iziah Falanga: The smiling assassin… Izzy was laughing and smiling and talking at training, but as soon as he got on the field, Izzy was tackling everything he could and running hard and straight. The longer the season went, the harder Izzy ran and tackled!

Joni Ayoub: Big Johi installed fear in the team with every single barge up the middle! Joni had the ability to offload whilst still having 3 players trying to bring him down. Another top season from the big fella!

Braxton Anevski: The little whippet! Brax was as fast as he was evasive, often beating several players to score a try. And his size didn’t stop him from running up trying to tackle anything and everything he could – great year Baby Yoda!

MANAGER’S REPORT

What a crazy year. With the season start delayed due to the current circumstances, we were finally given the good news that a shortened season would be possible. The boys were excited and certainly showed it in their first-round display against Chester Hill. Unfortunately, we struggled to recapture that form for the majority of the season, although our last round win against Greenacre showed the talent of this group. Coach Cope made the decision to concentrate on up skilling the boys in preparation for the bigger field next season and it looks to be paying dividends with some great tries scored in that last round. We will also be working very hard defensively in the off season.

My thanks to Coach Cope and Trainer Klem for their efforts this year. At times we were left scratching our heads but they remained positive, trying to improve our season whilst always having an eye on next year, continually working with the boys to be their best.

As I have said previously, we are extremely lucky to have a great group of parents who make it an enjoyable experience for all involved and hope to see them all back next year. Many thanks to the committee who worked tirelessly to keep this season going in extremely tough circumstances and keep things as normal as possible. The new members of the committee this year were simply outstanding.

Lastly I hope the boys stick together and will be back next year. They are a great group of boys and will be a very good side as they go through the age groups. Already looking forward to next year

PLAYER PROFILES

Alexander Barrett: Zander had another good season. He has no fear and puts himself into every game always giving 100%. His defence this year was outstanding.

Ben Buckley: This is the second season at Saints for Ben and he has quickly become a very important member of our team. Ben has a great technique and is very good runner of the football.

William Cope: Will was very good this year and as expected thrived with us playing competitively. His strong running was a feature and he scored some great tries.

Xavier Dib: Dibby was excellent again this year and has been one our best players over the last couple of seasons. His grass cutting tackles are amazing and would top our tackle count every week.

Rami El Sayed: Rami come up from second division this year and he was very good. His strong charges through the middle were a handful for the opposition.

Dane Klem: Dano was outstanding this season in everything he did. He scored plenty of great tries and tackled everything that moved, playing way above his weight

Phoenix Lee: Phoenix was good again this year. His running game is very strong and he is continually improving defensively.

Stephen Oloapu: What can I say? Stephen was outstanding again for us this year with his bone crunching tackles and strong runs, continually leading his team. It is great to have him on our side.

Billy Sullivan: Billy was straight and hard with the ball all year leading the boys forward and making big metres. His tries in the last game were outstanding and looking for big things from Billy next year.

Tim Swibel: Tim was very good this year especially when at first receiver. His speed and passing game will make him one to watch on the bigger field next year.

Campbell Whitney: Cam continued to work hard defensively and was good at first receiver organising and leading the team around

COACH’S REPORT

This year our boys have started their journey in junior football with all the fun, laughter and joy we would expect from 8 and 9 year olds. Whilst many of the old faces where playing a few new boys had joined our ranks, the way in which the boys from the first training session started to mix and include each other was fantastic. Our focus from the start of the year was for our boys to develop their skills in kicking, running on to the ball, running hard and working as a team in defence. What also developed and was very apparent to many of us was their continued efforts to play as a team as the year progressed. From excellent individual performances early it was great to see their efforts to include their teammates and pass the ball through games as the year went on, truly working as a team. What I am most proud of is the way all of our boys have developed and improved over the year, they should all be very proud of themselves – as I am of them. We had a very successful season winning most of our games only losing a couple of tight games keeping us out of the top 2 final. To our support crew, Matt, my assistant made a huge effort all through the year to help and support me in anyway he could. without you I don’t know what we would have done, your guidance and help throughout the year for not me but the whole team has been sensational. Zac each week you were there helping the boys, helping us and doing anything you could to make sure we had all the support we needed – thankyou. To our parents, so many of you sacrificed each Tuesday and each Thursday to help out and your efforts are truly appreciated. I can’t wait to be back next year again in 2021 – Go Saints!!

PLAYER PROFILES

Patrick Thompson: Patty is one player we know always tried his best. He played many great games through the season and had a game winning try and some tackles to save games, he was excellent in attack and played First receiver well. Amazing goal kicks under pressure and was always defending well when needed in the backline. Great year Pat.

Dion Mellis: Our tackling machine. Always willing to put his body on the line for his team and was also one of best forwards, regularly hitting the ball up hard, Following massive improvement over the year in skills we will see him star in 2021.

Conner Jeffcoat: Our little pocket rocket! What a player, always trying, never giving up and standing strong when we needed him. His courage was there for all to see during the year and we would not have won as many games as we did without him. Played a big part from first receiver Great year Conner. Izaac - Never ever did Izaac stop running and backing himself through the year. Always in our best players his energy and incredible determination to tackle hard and dominate in attack . Well done on a brilliant year.

Gabriel Separa: Not the biggest player in the comp but what he lacks in size he makes up for in heart. Huge improvement towards the end of year with confidence and always putting huge effort in at training. 2021 will be Gabes year to shine. Great work mate.

Harlen Worthley: Missed a few games early this year but when he returned, he always contributed. Always running hard and chasing in defence. Plays well above his weight. Harlen had a great season and we look forward to many more great games next year.

Jackson Hornsell: Jackson joined us through the year and showed great ability from the first night a training. Tough running and improved every week. With a great first season under his belt next year will be ever better. A great contributor who found his place in the team instantly. Well done

Cooper O’Loughlin: Cooper is our speed in attack and became a dominant defender late on the year. Loved seeing Beast coops come out. Cooper shows passion for his mates and plays a tough brand of footy. Scored several spectacular tries. See u next year for another brilliant season.

Jackson Moussa: Technically our best defender. With bone breaking tackles and a very smart player in attack. Could find a sneaky try nearly every game. Great year Jackson. Brady - Like a steam train Brady was always happy to take the game (and other players on) his big runs and strength helped us to many wins but his greatest improvement through the season was his defensive. Tackling all game. Brady played a lot of dummy half and shined. Well done Brady.

Kai Katahie: When we needed a player to stand up at the end of the year kai fired up. Kai never stopped trying through the season and had a massive improvement in skills that was noted by many. Hus marker work in defence and dummy half work in attack where awesome. Well done! on a great year.

Coach & Managers Report

Every year typically has a few defining moments, but thus far 2020 has contained so many world-changing developments that it’s getting hard to believe we’re not in a simulation that’s running every possible scenario at once!

This was always going to be a big year for the Under 10’s: their first foray into the mod comp. This year bought together a collective of boys, many of whom hadn’t played together before, and they were melded into a new team and moved towards new goals: and they certainly achieved them!

Although the season started with losses to the Rams and the Bears, we got our first win for the year against Chester Hill in round 3, and then backed it up with another win the following week. The game against St Johns in round 5 was a tough loss to take, but the boys took that frustration and channelled it into a solid win against the Bulls the next week. A few close matches followed, with a narrow victory against the Colts and a loss to the Rams again, however the boys rallied and finished the season with a resounding win against the Bears, playing their way into 4th spot on the ladder.

Overall, the boys enjoyed some big wins over some oppositions whose size physically eclipsed them, but they were never deterred, showing that size does not always matter. If 2020 had been a regular year, they would have made the finals, and we both think that is a feat for which all the boys should be immensely proud.

We were lucky enough to witness the ongoing development of many of the boys who we coached/ managed last year in the under 9/3’s, and were also so pleased to have so many new faces, some new to the team, and some new to the club, who all came together and collectively improved and worked so hard that we both couldn’t be prouder of their achievements (tears were involved -we will leave it to you all to speculate as to which of us cried!).

Thank you to all the players & parents who diligently adapted to the new Covid normal and managed to get to the games every weekend – we only had perhaps one game when we did not put a full team on the field, which was fantastic. A heartfelt thank you also goes out to our wonderful trainer Pete, who was instrumental in the development of the boys’ game over the season.

A massive thank you also to Grant, Chris and the entire Saints Committee for their tireless work in what has been a remarkably challenging season: one which honestly, we didn’t think we would see the end of. In a year full of upheaval for all of the kids, it was fantastic they were able to take the park and play the game they all love. We thank you all for that little slice of ‘normal’.

We can’t wait to see what 2021 brings- go the Saints!

PLAYER PROFILES

Xavier Aad: This year saw a big step up in Xavier’s game, and he made it a season to remember. Xavier really started playing his best footy towards the end of the year: with plenty of speed and extremely light footwork he made the opposition think twice about planting their feet to try and tackle him! I am extremely proud of how much Xavier has grown in the last 12 months- well done Xavier!

Jayden Bernal: Jayden is one of our first year players that quickly showed a real hunger for the sport. He works really hard at training, always putting in 100% and is a pleasure to coach. Jayden has good speed and commitment, and as he further develops his ball skills he will surely become an invaluable member of the 2021 team. Great Job Jayden!

Elias Elazzi: This was Elias’ first season, and he quickly fit in with the team. Elias didn’t take backwards step all year, throwing his body in front of much bigger opponents, giving 100% to every run and tackle made during the season. He never shied away from work in defence and will continue to develop with his good work ethic at training. Great first season Elias!

Isaac Elesh: Isaac played really well throughout the year and always held his own in both attack and defence. His confidence certainly grew as the season went on, and he began to embrace his own strength. He is a great asset to the team’s attack and defence and should be congratulated on a great season. Well done Isaac.

Dylan Hodgkisson: Dylan was again the smallest player in the team but with the biggest heart, and is a prime example that size doesn’t matter. Dylan showed plenty of talent and skill when he started the season at dummy half, scoring a few tries by choosing his time when to run or pass. Dylan’s defence got better and better as the season went on and so did his confidence. Top year Dylan.

Levi James: This year was Levi’s first ever season of rugby league, and didn’t he look at home playing. Levi’s confidence grew with every single game he played, and once Levi had his confidence up, he pulled in the middle where his running and defence really showed. His goal kicking was also remarkable! The highlight of Levi’s season was seeing him score his first ever try and seeing him walk back with a massive smile on his face! Great stuff Levi.

James Mitchell: James is another boy who has really developed his game in the last 12 months. He started this year at first receiver, where once he found his confidence, he looked unstoppable: backing himself, taking the line on and scoring tries he wouldn’t have scored last year! James gave it his all in every game and I couldn’t have asked for anything more of him. Excellent job James.

Wesley Moala: This was Wesley’s first season at the club, and he certainly made his mark! With a strong running style, Wesley made line break after line break, and got the team out of trouble when he was needed. Wesley did just as much damage in defence, with hard tackling, driving players back time and time again. Wesley’s talk in the team is amazing, he really brought the boys together this year! Well done Wesley.

Jarryd Mouawad: This year was the first year I’ve coached Jarryd, and it was really pleasing to see him show such great experience and leadership. Jarryd stepped into the first receiver role halfway through the season and he never looked back, with lots of talk and confidence on the field, which the rest of the team fed off. Jarryd’s kicking game was on point week in week out, forcing drop out after drop out, building pressure for the team. Top work Jarryd.

Patrick Passarelli: This year was also the first year I’ve coached Patrick, and didn’t he make it one to remember, playing dummy half throughout the season. Patrick too, showed plenty of experience and leadership within the team, and he certainly has speed to burn, choosing the right moment when to run. Patrick’s defence is also impressive: for a player of his size, he never fails to put his body on the line over and over! Great job Patrick.

Luke Petersen: There was a massive improvement in Luke’s game this year and we all saw it right from the get go. With plenty of speed, Luke was able to make line breaks and chase down opposition players as they were trying to beat him to the try line. Luke showed a lot of heart this year and I couldn’t be prouder of him for that. Awesome job Luke.

Jibriel Salameh: Jibi was an absolute enforcer this year and has really embraced his ability to break through the opposition lines with confidence and skill, making great metres. He was certainly an invaluable asset in attack! Jibi also scored some impressive tries and was fantastic in defence, always supporting his team mates. Well done Jibi.

Alessandro Thompson: Alessandro is probably one of the quietest boys on the team, but that didn’t impede his game one bit! Alessandro came out of his shell a few games in, and after that he didn’t take a backwards step in attack and defence. Alessandro put some of the biggest hits on during the year (some of which were on me!) and they were great to watch! Very proud of Alessandro this season.

Jayden Thompson: This was Jayden’s first year at the club and straight away he showed confidence in his game. Jayden blew me away at his very first training session with his talking, positive attitude and leadership, and the rest of the of the team absorbed his positive attitude. Jayden’s defence was good to watch, seeing him making one on one tackles to players double his size. Excellent work Jayden.

Zander Vasilevski: Zander really came out of the shell when he moved to dummy half halfway through the season. This saw him move into the middle in defence and he didn’t shy away from that challenge, putting his body on the line in both attack and defence. I can’t wait to see what next year has in store for Zander. Great stuff.

COACH’S REPORT

With 2020 giving so much uncertainty it was great to get back on the training paddock and finally play some footy. The boys were excited to be back with their mates and threw themselves into training ready to compete and improve on 2019. We had a few new faces in the team and they fitted straight in. The most pleasing aspect of 2020 was how hard it was to pick 3,2,1's each week with every player putting their hand up and different players gaining the points each week. This team is not just about 1 or 2 players but a whole squad that buys in and work hard for each other. The improvement and effort the boys consistently show is remarkable and i am so proud of their achievements.

 3 minor premierships in 3 years  The best defensive record for the past 3 years  Undefeated in 2 seasons  2 from 3 Grand final winners

A huge thank you to Cameron (Stats), Pete (Munnsy), Sean (Dono) and Andrew (Camel) for their assistance and ensuring the boys were ready to rip in each week. A big thankyou to the parents for keeping the boys in check, the positive reinforcement from the sidelines and making sure the boys were always at training and games. Also thankyou to Grant and his committee for helping get the competition up and running and always being supportive.

Missing the boys already and looking forward to the new challenge of 13 aside in 2021!

MANAGER’S REPORT

What a difference a year makes. Last year we spoke about opportunities lost and now the achievements of this year make it all a distant memory. We welcomed some new boys to the team this year and they all fit in right away giving the team a new level of strength. It was often discussed how well the boys gelled together and completed their roles in the team. It was often hard to judge who had performed the best, as they all played at such a standard to single out individuals would have been unfair. What a great season and great bunch of young men.

Thank you to all the parents for your assistance during the year. Thank you, Jon, Pete, Sean and Andrew for all that you do with the boys. You have got them to a standard that they play with maturity well beyond their years. Thank you to the club, especially Grant, Chris and the Committee for getting this season under way in these tough times. Go saints! #105.

PLAYER PROFILES

Kaled Dib: Kaled is one of the most quiet and well-mannered boys on the team. On the field this changes and he becomes one of most aggressive in defence and attack. Kaled saved one of his best performances for this year’s Semi Final where he scored tries, diffused bombs and tackled his heart out. Another great year from a great kid.

Jacob Dodd: Jakey is small in stature, but not in effort on the footy field. Jakey is another great team player that does not let anyone down when needed. Another great finisher who scored some impressive tries after some great team plays. Jakey was not afraid to put his body on the line when needed against some much bigger boys. Keep it up!

Peter Mare: One of the new players to the team, Peter is another quiet and well-mannered boy. Peter provided great service from fullback and was sure to stop any attacking raids on our line. Peter was also johnny on the spot following the big forwards and ready for any offloads. Pete possesses a lethal step that can embarrass the best defenders. Great first season Pete!

Noah Mikhail: Noah had a great season this year and was easily one of the best defenders we had throughout the year. Noah consistently took down bigger opponents and backed this aggressiveness in defence with great positional play that lead to him finishing with some great tries. Top season mate!

Nash McLellan: Another new boy to the team, Nash fit into the team well. Nash steered the team when needed and backed this with a great kicking game. He was very physical when needed in defence and was lucky enough to seal the win in the Grand Final with the final try. Great season mate.

Caleb Mitchell: A tireless competitor and defender, Caleb lead from the front with his defence. He provided great service from dummy half and a cool head when needed. Caleb loved being in the middle and getting amongst the tough stuff. Another great season buddy.

Tyler Munn: The General had another fantastic season in which he led with his skill and maturity on the field. Tyler’s positional play, pass selection and ball in hand is second to none in the comp. This was shown throughout the season and none more so than in the last two tries of the semi and grand finals. Tyler impressed with a perfectly timed intercept and threw a perfect cut out to seal each win. Perfect season mate!

Declan O’Donovan: Big Dec was a running machine this year powering through the defence every game and caused the opposition a lot of grief. He backed this up with some fearsome defence and was a real forward leader. Deco loved the tough stuff in the middle and is a great smiley kid to boot. It was also great to see his style kicking. Don’t ever change Deco!

Michael Psirakis: Big Mick had another great season with his powerful surges and strong defence. He is one of the strongest ball runners in the comp. Mick loves a left arm palm to any willing defender and always leavers tacklers in his wake. Everyone loves a fired-up Mick who is ready to run hard. Fantastic effort Mick!

Noah Raish: Raishy is a great team player who was welcomed back into the team after a short hiatus. Another extremely well-mannered boy who always gives his best. Raishy finished off some of great team plays including a cracker try in the semi final that few would have scored. Top effort Raishy!

Afa Sua: Big Afa, equals big effort. Afa is a tireless worker in the middle and a great team player. Always ready for a big charge or to take down the opposition big men. Afa is consistently one of the best players in the team and comp and definitely a laugh at training. Afa you legend!

Jackson Vajdevski: Jacko had a great season on the right edge with his hole running and awesome defence. None of us, including him will forget his man of the match performance in the grand final with his two tries. Jacko showed great positional play and stamina to ensure we lead from the front in the penultimate game. Keep smiling mate!

Xavius Wilson: Another well-mannered smiley kid, Xavius is a senior member of the team who performed well under pressure. His defence in the middle was relentless. Xavius ran himself ragged in the finals ensuring that the opposition were given nothing. A team leader who never let himself or others down. Fantastic season champ!

We’ve got this boys!

Well done – 11-1’s Grand Final #105

COACH’S REPORT With the threat and uncertainty of COVID the 2020 season was always going to be a difficult one, add to that a new coach, trainer and that half our team was new, to say we were behind the 8 ball was an understatement, but full credit to this team as it was like water off a ducks back to them.

Before game 1 we all set team and personal goals with the overwhelming majority of goals to win the comp. After another hurdle of playing all but our first game away, unfortunately we fell a few games short, but we gave it a real shake and hopefully learnt some valuable lessons to push us harder next season.

So, was this season a success? Absolutely! For starters success is measured by the quality of people in the team, not just by whether you win or lose, and the quality of the boys in this team in my eyes is outstanding. There is plenty of skill in this team, but more importantly to me is the hard work, discipline and friendship that was displayed this year. WELL DONE BOYS. Hold your heads high.

To Scott, a huge THANKYOU for your help this year mate, I know I probably didn’t say it enough, but it was greatly appreciated and a huge benefit to the team.

To Deb, THANKYOU for another fabulous year as manager. You are the glue that keeps this team together. Your communication each week makes it so easy for everyone to be on the same page and know what is expected.

Lastly but certainly not least a huge THANKYOU to the boys and their families for a great year, I hope to see everyone back in 2021.

TRAINER’S REPORT

With a condensed year ahead of the team the boys were very keen to play footy after the late start to the season.

Once again Division 2 seen more new faces to the team than returns. These boys were quickly shown the Saints way as they started to gel as a team after their first game loss. The boys highlight of the year was to put the most amount of points on the board of any team in the division against the undefeated Chesso’s. On more than one occasion the boys were thanked for their fair play attitude during games, even referees commending them on good sportsmanship.

The boys played hard as a team and definitely had their heart in it. They stayed high on the ladder all the way until the end with only a couple of points to make the decision to unfortunately miss out on the grand final. The boys showed true passion for the game and more often than not determination to reach not only their individual goals but their team goals.

The boys get on so well as a team, with everyone supporting each other, on and off the field and it’s great to see how well the boys all get along.

The coaches and manager enjoyed the year with them and very much hope that next year they will all be together again to take it that next step further.

I would like to thank Shane for coaching and leading everybody this year and for giving me the opportunity to help out and to Deb for being an amazing manager once again. Last but not least thank you to all of our parents for getting the boys to training and game days.

PLAYER PROFILES

Levi Athota #1: Levi fit into this team like a hand in a glove and it was hard to believe that this was Levi’s first year in rugby league. Very easy to coach, Levi is not afraid of contact and is willing to get down and dirty when needed. Still has a lot to learn but if he sticks with it will go a long way.

Michael Condoluci #9: In his first full year of rugby league, Michael again proved he is a valuable member of the team, with his great stepping (sometimes a little too much), his strong defence or his ever-reliable goal kicking. Michael is improving every game.

Zayd Hantour #13: Another player new to the team and back in rugby league after a short break. Zayd is an asset to any team, has plenty of skill and ability and if he sticks with it will only grow in confidence each and every week.

Lucas Ferriera #10: Another new team member, Lucas has plenty to add to any conversation, is full of confidence and has the skill to back it up. A very smart footballer and eager to do whatever the team needs. Lucas was very close to taking a leadership role this year.

Connor Gitsham #7: Another who is back in rugby league after taking a break. One of the smallest on the field, but full of heart and skill. A pleasure to coach and very eager to put the team first, Connor will only grow in confidence if he sticks with it.

Charbel Khoury #3: Another great year for Charbel, working hard leading the team around the park. Charbel showed us some great attacking kicks that lead to plenty of tries or repeat sets this year to add another string to his bow.

Flynn Lovett #14: A great team player that can play anywhere across the field (and often did). Great at chasing kicks when out wide. Has the courage to back himself and scored a memorable buzzer beating try to win against the Colts that won’t be forgotten.

Ky McKeown #8: Ky continued to make outstanding progress this year, working hard on his leadership skills. A very smart and skillful footballer that wears his heart on his sleeve, if he can keep his emotions in check will continue to grow as a leader and footballer.

Zac McKeown #2: Another big step for Zac this year, showing great improvement in all aspects of his game. Zac is always happy and beaming at training always leading the chorus of encouragement to his fellow players when he sees them doing it tough. Tallis Minhinnick-Fanayan #12: New to the team, but not to the club. Tallis was very quiet at the start of the year, but it was great to see him come out of his shell as he felt more comfortable with this team because Tallis is a superstar in the making, playing up an age group and not only holding his own, but dominating, with textbook defence and barnstorming running that was truly inspiring.

Luca Te Awa #15: Another who was new to the team this year, Luca possesses great skill, which includes size, ball skills, hard running, brutal defence and great goal kicking. Luca worked hard on his fitness this year and if this continues, he will be unstoppable.

Phoenix West #5: Phoenix had a great season this year and this showed with him being our top point scorer, with his smart dummy half darts leading to 9 tries and his super reliable goal kicking landing 8 from 8. Playing a lot of game time in the middle this year, Phoenix worked hard on his defence and will only grow more confident with every tackle made.

Kynan White #6: Kynan is a bright young footballer, who has plenty of ability and knowledge about the game, he worked extremely hard this year on his consistency and if this continues, he will flourish. He can do it all when he believes in himself. Knock, knock Who’s there? Owen Owen who?

COACH’S REPORT

What a season it has been, the Covid Season of footy which will be one to remember! I was privileged enough to be nominated as coach of the under 12’s this year and I could not be prouder of the boys and the effort they put it every week. This season was challenging both mentally with covid restrictions and physically with increased intensity and fitness at training. We started pre-season with fitness and more fitness - road runs, sand dunes sessions and zoom training sessions during lockdown.

The commitment shown by the boys throughout this season was evident with the boys playing fast, smart footy. As a coaching staff, we decided we wanted to develop the boys not only to be their best but to understand the game. It was rewarding to watch the boys grow as players but more as a team, with a strong team environment at trainings and games. Every player in the team showed commitment and dedication to training, willing to train rain, hail, shine or lockdown, nothing and still wanting to continue to train after the season ended.

The boys were rewarded for all their hard work by ending the season as undefeated Premiers for 2020! Special Thanks to Malakai, Compton, Tyreese and Matt for the time and effort put into the team, we wouldn’t be here without their help, but the perfect season is a result of the boy’s hard work. Thanks for the season boys, hope to see you all next year.

Coach Mark

MANAGER’S REPORT

What an impressive season. This was my first year as Team Manager and it was a learning experience for me personally. To watch these young boys, develop both physically and mentally was inspiring to say the least. It would be fair to say we were the fittest team by far, we never stopped training and the early road runs would have been tough. Mark and Malokai pushed the boys very hard with lofty expectations. All players bought into this concept and as the season went on, the training became part of what they wanted to achieve, combined with their personal goals made with Mark and Malokai. All our boys displayed development and growth in all parts of the game, particularly our defence. Our for and against this year was also something special, we never lost a game with very few points scored against us.

The highlight for me this year, apart from winning the GRAND FINAL was the evening game we played against Milperra Colts. That night was magical to watch as all the hard work payed off and the boys looked like a well drilled team in both attack & defence. The large number of Saint Christopher’s supporters who showed up added to a memorable night.

Our Captain this year, Rhys Parmeter is a future leader of the game and often warmed the team up if Mark or Malakai were running late. His selfless playing attitude speaks volumes.

Mark Kitiona, our Coach is an exceptional young man with a real talent for Coaching young players and getting the best from them. The boys not only look up to him as their Coach, but he is also a friend and mentor. I want to thank him for the exceptional job he did.

Malakai Manoa was our fantastic trainer and often the vocal one at games to ensure plans were being stuck to. Well respected by the boys for his knowledge in fitness and training drills. We appreciate your efforts for the team and look forward to seeing you again next year.

I would also like offer thanks to Compton, Tyrese and Tama for assisting at training sessions, I know our boys were grateful with the experience you brought to the team.

I look forward to seeing the boys continue next season as we pursue greater goals with playing International Rugby League. It will be tough, but we all believe in you and have built a great playing group to achieve this.

To those parents who got in and helped with the canteen and BBQ duties without being asked, I really appreciate it. To the committee, this would not be possible without you and we thank you for everything you do each week and behind the scenes, in a very challenging year.

PLAYER PROFILES

Alexander Ganeme: Hard trainer and improved both on and off the field. Had some bulldozing runs as he would run it hard up the middle. Also great in defence, hitting hard and strong and always being reliable, great year Alex.

Casch Tuckett: Casch was another player who’s footy improved this year. He played between dummy half and the wing, he was solid in defence, taking pressure relieving scoots and always getting the talk going, encouraging the team and letting the opposition how they were going.

Cooper White: Coops was a good pick up this year, returning to the club and also juggling his soccer commitments. He was one of our dummy halves/wingers who I can slot into any position without a complaint. He caused havoc from DH often sucking in players and taking them on.

Dylan Phillips: A good season by another one of our reliable dummy half/wingers who I could always count on to do his job and great supporting player. Tackles above his weight making some try savers as well having some great runs from dummy half, well done Dylan.

Elio Macri: This year we saw improvement in Elio as he put himself more into the games and grew with confidence. He played well on the wing supporting the team whenever needed. Thanks Elio

Erik Crichton: Erik was very reliable on the edge as a hard runner and a great defender, rarely missing tackles and constantly putting his body on the line. Erik always had a good attitude at training putting in for the team and pushing the boys harder.

Finnlay Benson: Directed the team well as our five-eight and has a good vision as a ball player. Finn had a good attitude at training and was always pushing himself and the boys.

James Dawes: James was one of our big props and did his job both on and off the field. He had huge improvement this year both at training and in the game. His attitude towards both was also great, a good team player!

Josaia Tamani: Joe’s attack was explosive this year, he is a natural ball runner, always finding himself holes and breaking the tackles and there pushing his way through. Joe ’loved’ doing fitness and pushed the boys too.

Joshua Hanney: Quiet but deadly, Josh’s played hard in attack and his defence was even tougher. Keep up the training in the off season and you’ll be unstoppable next year.

Lucas Mouawad: So reliable in the centre’s both in attack and defence, pretty much scored a try every game too. Great year Lucas, train hard in the off season and you will continue with your good form moving up to International rules.

Memphis Fuatimau: Memphis is a very talented and reliable ball runner, defender and man in the middle. He often tore the defence apart with strong running and would cut opponents in half with some well-timed tackles. His earned the respect of his team mates and coaching staff, leading by example both at training and at the games. Great work Memphis

Michael Kitiona: Another great improvement from Michael this year, he trained hard and his defence was strong wherever he played on the field. Playing in the middle really suits him and he has become much more comfortable playing there.

Rhys Parmeter: Our captain for this season and did a tremendous job as first receiver. Rhys was constantly involved in many attacking plays which either saw him set up his team mates or cross the line himself on many occasions. As my MVP, Rhys has such a great knowledge of the game, an awesome defender who is not only always looking to get hands on the ball and be involved in the play but also support his team mates. Can’t wait to see what he does in the future.

Rory Wilson: This is the second year I have coached Rory and his has again improved so much. He’s effort at training and in games is great, he always has the team laughing and loves doing the extra Malcom’s!

Silas Tohilima-Gardiner: Being the youngest player in the team and playing up an age division meant nothing to Silas and you wouldn’t know his age watching him on the field. He would run across the field to put his body on the line cutting down even the biggest of players. Silas gives 100% both at training and on game day, plays with all heart and is great at motivating his team mates, oh and loves running at the biggest kid on the field too!

Tyson Tran: My most improved player of the season, Tyson gave 100%+ all the time and his always listened and did as instructed and this showed with his performance in the centres every game, only getting better each game! Well done Tyson.

Yeah the boys!

COACH’S REPORT

What a season!! My first year coaching this side. Such a great bunch of boys. We had 9 new players come into our side this year. So, we knew it was going to be a while for the boys to build combinations and get use to each other. We dropped our 2nd game of the season. So, for us to make the Grand final we could not lose another game. The boys understood that, and we trained the house down. The boys managed to win every other regular game and earn themselves a spot in the Grand Final. In such a tough comp its huge for the boys. No one gave us a chance to win though especially after getting pumped 36-0 earlier in the year. I had full confidence we could get the job done, if we could put constant pressure in defence and complete our sets. It was a back n forth game, the boys managed to come back from 10-0 to win the game 18-10. Each player brought something different to the team and all played a role in getting us to the GF and getting the big win. Such a great moment to be part of. It has been an absolute pleasure coaching these boys. Looking forward to 2021. Would like to thank the staff. Camel, Bender, Sal and Jonathan. You guys made it easy to take the role as coach. Thanks for the constant support, you each played a big role in making this side successful. Thank you to the parents. This team does not come together without you guys. Thanks for the support.

PLAYER PROFILES

Jonas Peni: Jonas is a player that can play every position from 1-13. He started the year at fullback because of his constant talk but finished the year in the centres because of his aggressive defence. He must be one of the most damaging ball runners in the comp and it showed with his M.O.M Grand Final performance.

Zac Athota: Zac has come a long way, he played div3 last year. He doesn’t talk much but his actions on the field speaks plenty. Such a damaging ball runner and great finisher, he cemented his spot on the wing.

Jake Bender: Jakey become one of the best finishers I’ve seen. You can’t beat speed and Jakey has plenty of it. But what most impressed me this year was his decision making and aggression is defence.

William Trostel: Will has come to a new side this year and played out of position. But I didn’t get one complaint at all. Ultimate professional, I asked a lot of Will and he didn’t disappoint. He made every centre in the comp look average with his constant in your face defence.

Fouad: Fouad come to us after having a year off footy. He started the year off showing us how damaging his ball running can be. But dropped to fullback the last few games and made some of the best try saving tackles I’ve ever seen.

Elijah (VC): Elijah added so much coming into our side. Such a calm head which you need as a half to lead the side around. He got us out of trouble so much with his kicking game. But he has to be one of the best defensive halves in the comp.

Tristan Burns: Tristan is one of the ultimate competitors. He forgets sometimes how light he is on his feet and hits it up like a front rower. Tristan had a few clutch moments this year, none better than his goal kicks in the Grand Final.

Itula Seve (C): The heart and soul of the team. Most will notice Itulas barnstorming runs and crushing tackles. But the effort on efforts he does every game/every week shows me why he is our Captain. Huge effort to lead his side to a GF win.

Zeeden Wilson: Z plays well above his weight. He has to be the best at slowing the play the ball down. He has a calming attitude which you need on the field, especially in the big games. Nothing fazed him, but I’m sure his smack talk fazed the opposition.

Leon Rizoglou: Leon is one of the most improved players. Not a very big front rower. But never takes a step back. Always starts our sets with solid go forward then chops anyone running his way.

Isaac Mikhail: Isaac started the year in the middle. But earnt his spot on the edge with his great line running and solid defence. Isaac has great talk in both games and training. Such a positive kid to have in the group.

Jaziyah Taiatu: Jaziyah the unsung hero. Been one of our best. He’s been solid in defence all year, makes his tackles and pulls a couple bell ringers off when he wants. But what stood out to me was he constantly took all the shit hit ups that no one wanted to take.

Isaac Thompson: I think Isaac has found his spot in the middle. Not a big forward but he made sure every team felt him. Put on a highlight reel of hits this year.

Lucas Pengue: Lucas covered a couple spots for us this year in the hooker n halves. Did a great job at both, Lucas will throw his body around without care. He always starts moving forward first with the ball, which is something many don’t do.

Siakumi: Kumi such a soft spoken kid. But don’t let it fool you, he’s aggressive running style got us on the front foot every game. He played a bit on the edge but wouldn’t stop him from coming in the middle and make some crushing tackles.

Andre Posesione: Andre One kid you don’t want to run at he hits like a truck. We named a move after Andre (bulldozer) and it basically was give him the ball close to the line no one will stop him. Such a damaging player.

Lale Pritchard: Lale definitely the clown of the side. As he got fitter he got better and better. You won’t see many forwards with Lale’s footwork. So aggressive in defence, the boys lifted when he come on the field.

Well done - Grand Final #104 to the 13-Gold

COACH’S REPORT

2020 Season: The season of Covid! With a delayed start and a short season, just getting through the season was going to be challenging, but not as much as taking on the role as coach. With little knowledge of the game the task of coaching this team was quite daunting, but due to the support of the club, members, parents and the amazing attitudes of the boys, the season was enjoyable and rewarding. The boys trained hard all season and fitness was going to be the key, as we had a relatively small team, so skill and talent would be our focus. The boys played some first class footy and scored some great rugby league tries. Unlucky to go all the way the team exceeded all my expectations, which lead to a great season overall. Such a brave and competitive team.

Finally, thank you Paul Morse, Carson Latau, Jason Penman and Steve Klem for your help this season, it would not have been possible without you. Thank you to the committee and club members for making it possible, but most of all thank you to our parents for your continuous support and trusting me with your boys!

MANAGER’S REPORT

Well what a season that was, one I hope we will never come across again. But once the season started it was a positive one, for a great group of boys that came together to play some great footy. Firstly a massive thank you to all the committee for putting everything required in place so we could give the boys a game of footy in what has, and for them, still is a very trying season. Also a big thank you to Damian for taking the team on, and I’m sure I speak for all the boys, they really clicked with you and could tell they wanted to play for you every week. I hope you go again with them next season. Also, to Paul Morse and Steve Klem for keeping the boys fit and healthy as much as possible, couldn’t do it without you, thank you! Lastly thanks to all the parents who got together in a very difficult season, getting the boys to training and games, and helping in the canteen and BBQ, I appreciate your efforts. It was a privilege to manage the boys this year and hope to have us all go around again next season, which won’t be far away.

PLAYER PROFILES

Christopher Ayoub: Missing the 2019 season due to injury, I never got the chance to coach Chris, but he was back in 2020. Keen, eager, and full of life, Chris always gave 110% at training and it reflected on the field, going from strength to strength week in week out, a stella season.

Lani Salt: Returning for just his second year in league, Lani continued to learn the game, worked hard on his weaknesses, and played to his strengths. His continuous improvements throughout the year lead to a great individual season.

Noah Morse: A natural talent! Noah is a very passionate player, but that passion would sometimes get the better of him, once Noah controlled his emotions and channelled them in the right direction, he became unstoppable, and was a vital part of the success of the team.

Patrick Forrester: A born leader! Patty guided his team to many victories and as captain always led by example, training hard, playing even harder. Always there to spur teammates on at every occasion, setting the tempo and never gave up, an asset to any team.

Riley Todd-Bonselaar: Riley is a versatile and great all-round player, who would fill any role with ease. Riley always looked to gain that edge over his opponents, whether it be at training or in a game, his vision and game knowledge invaluable.

Lachlan Burke: A very experienced player! Celebrating 10 Years with The Saints, an accolade some may never experience, Lachy is certainly a gifted and talented sportsman. His natural style of footy made everything he did seem so effortless, his awareness on defence and his ability to create something from nothing lead to an outstanding season! Congratulations bud!

Jamie Gonzalez: Returning for a second season also, Jamie worked hard at training this season to master plays, perfect technique, and ensure he played his role. When things weren’t going to plan, he would always settle the mood and get the team back on track.

Rhys Gitsham: Rhys took timeout from footy prior to the 2020 season and it took a bit of convincing to get him to come back, but so glad he did! He bought speed and agility to the backline, and once he settled in and found his feet, he was a menace to any defensive line, which led to a tally of tries.

Dylan Ross: Mr Defence! Another second-year player, Dylan picked up where he left off last year. With a near perfect tackle technique, his defence is second to none and very rarely did his opposition slip by. Always keen to learn and always up for a challenge, another great season.

Harrison Divan: Harry was a late inclusion to the team, which gave the team some much needed bench relief. Once he learnt the basics, he became a valuable part of the team, always backing up and putting in the extra effort to keep his team on the front foot. Aaron Klem: As tough as they come! Aaron would always pull up his sleeves and go the full distance, fearless in defence and smart in offence. He would pick and choose his moments to perfection and rarely would he make a mistake.

Brodie-Jay Penman: Easily one of the smallest on the field but played with the heart of any big forward. Fearlessly attacking the line, and his energy in defence would always boost the moral in the team. Brodie absorbed everything in training and would apply it on the field.

Ayrton Latau: Ayrton was a pleasure to coach, always listening, always willing and would always give his all. Very quiet to start, but once he felt comfortable, he opened up and took his game to the next level. Ayrton was solid in all areas of the field and would always keep the team moving forward.

Isaac James: Isaac is undoubtedly one of the most hard-working players in the team, giving 110% in everything he would do, and you would not think this was also his second year in footy. As the season progressed, he ventured into other positions and with all the nerves he took it in his stride.

Jake Duane-Barry: Jake is the youngest in the team and playing up a year is always going to be a challenge, but not for Jake, he looked natural at this level and played some outstanding footy. Always keen to train and always keen to stay back and put in a few extra minutes to boost his game.

Well done boys!

COACH’S REPORT 2020 What an interesting year, A year that I didn’t think we would get on the field with all the curve balls thrown our way. Anyway, we got past that thanks to The Management of the St Christopher’s club.

The boys Trained hard to get their season started, the first game they started like a house on fire on a windy day, no one was going stop them, after 12mins we lead against a reasonable team that always puts an effort in, 22 nil up, the forwards marched forward and the ground work was there, then led by five eighth Mitchel woods, where ever he went he produced something that led to a try. For the first game it was always hard to match- a game I was forced to make changes in the first quarter to make sure everybody got a game. Every kid had a long off season and were pumped to get on the field.

The rest the of the regular season was played in similar fashion, our Forwards in particular Pfieffer, Isaiah, & Mitchel Rowles up front we strong all year round, and our backs followed their led. The Big games during the short season are always the Canterbury teams, Greenacre a side that won’t go away, for some reason the boys find it hard to lift against this team, that game ended in a draw. The other big game, Chester Hill, a Big Side. Well We did Start fast and everything we did in the first quarter was perfect, from memory not one error in the first quarter, Front rowers Jayden & Pfeiffer led the way. By quarter time we were up 22nil. Unfortunately, after that the boys let their guard down and let Cheso back into the game, eventually we got home 22 – 18.

Our next encounter with Cheso, we were out enthused, it was do or die for them, their hunger to win showed, our boys competed and we had our chances but couldn’t covert our chances to points to get us over the line. Coach didn’t help the situation with a call to take shot at goal at the end of the first quarter. It was tough game, and our next encounter would be the Grand Final. Grand Final, leading up to the GF, the boys were confident, we started well with Mitchel Woods scoring early in the game down the blind side. But unfortunately, the boys couldn’t get over an enthusiastic Chester Hill team. The boys made too many errors on the big day to stay ahead.

Overall, the year was hard to get momentum, we played 8 regular season games and the 9th being the Grand Final. The effort from the boys was great all year round at training, it’s all I could ask for as a coach. I hope to see all the boys back next year, hoping 2021 will be a better Year.

I would like to thank my Manager Mechelle, and my Trainers Grant & Bobby for their help during the season. PLAYER PROFILES

Amen Maarbani: Strong Running fullback, had a good season, needs to work on his passing skills and one on one defence. I think a stint in the centres next year will help that out.

Saint Fuatimau: Saint had a great season, Strong Defence winger, rarely missed a tackle on the wing, very elusive winger, with speed to finish off a try as well.

Aledin Hrvat: Aledin had a solid year, this kid can be anything, he is strong attacking centre that combined well with our halves. A very confident player, that is good under the high ball as well. He needs to back his ability up in defence.

Chris Maklouf: Chris new to the Club, coming from St Johns, Chris didn’t disappoint, his Strong and aggressive in defence, His attack he has speed to burn as he showed against Greenacre. Also, in the short season he improved a mile.

Kian Todd Bonselaar: Mr Fix it, a great kid that had a good season, Kian has all the skills of half, and is decent defender, played most of the season as a winger, but many times found himself in the half back role. His only downfall is that Kian not vocal enough on the field.

Tukia Taufa: Tukia had a up and down season, a little injury along the way, Tukia played mostly centre and wing with a couple of stints in the forwards, I think he will become great forward, as he aggressive in defence.

Jack Hanratty: Jack backed up his season from last year, organising the team in the half back roll, some of his cross- field kicks resulting in excellent tries, His last tackle options were better this year. Jack needs to engage more in defence, but sometimes it doesn’t help being the smallest kid in the comp.

Mitchell Woods: Had great season, becoming more of a leader as the season went on, His attack is outstanding, he has the speed, skills, and football brain to go further in this game. He is real competitor never giving up in defence.

Takerei Barden Te Amohanga: Tux had a solid year, His work rate in attack and defence surprised me, the Kid has an engine and generally goes all day. His approach to the game is all effort. Tux needs to work on his balls skills to get him to the next level.

Mitchell Rowles: Mitchell had good season, a silent achiever, very dominant in defence, slowing down the play the ball. In Attack he was strong and constantly going forward, a very talented kid.

Isaia Elisara: Isaia a powerful running back rower built like bobcat with outstanding footwork at the defensive line, he constantly gave the opposition a headrace with his line breaks. His defence is awesome, a real hard-hitting player you don’t want to get tackled by.

Shemaiah Tufuga: Shem not the biggest back rower, in defence he was fearless, he can tackle all day. In Attack he is dynamic when gets involved. Shem needs to be vocal on the field, he needs to go looking for the ball and be more proactive in attack.

Phillip Alamoti: Phillip a new player from St Johns, considering this is only his second year he has come along nicely. His Defence still needs work, but you don’t want to run straight at him as he can hit like a truck. In Attack he is fearless and willing to do the hard yards. Another player the also needs to be more vocal on the field.

Diazhye Tipene: Diazhye, Silent but deadly, strong attacking forward that has the speed of a back, constantly breaking the line. In defence D is a powerhouse hitter always putting his body on the line. Jayden Mallia: Jayden had a good season, Strong running front rower that developed more in the back end of the season, always looking for a hit up. In Defence Jayden is solid, a player you rely on, and one the big hitters in the team.

Livai Saukuru: Livai a skilful front rower always looking for an offload after short bursts of attack. A strong Defender willing to put his body on the line when his team needs him. Livai needs to keep fit in the off season.

Mark Bishara: Mark played most the year at Hooker, he worked hard on his service in the off season especially his left side pass understanding service to big forwards is important to them going forward. In Defence again was strong rarely missing tackles. Mark need to look up more in attack and have a run when the defence looks weak.

Liam Walsh: Liam played mostly hooker this Year, also had stints half back and Five eight. Good attacking player around the ruck. Fearless in defence always putting his body on the line.

Pfeiffer Feagaiga: A powerhouse front rower with a high work rate, Pfeiffer lead the way and never took a backward step, constantly going forward till he had nothing left. In defence he is as tough as the come, I would hate to be on the receiving end of his tackles.

Josh Dunn: Unfortunately, Josh never got the field this year due to injury, thanks for coming down to the games and

Then and now…two of our latest 10-year players: - Jack Hanratty and Mitchell Rowles from the 14-Gold support during the year. UNDER 14-Silver

MANAGER’S REPORT

This was a very different season to last year, Coming off a high from the grand final…. Looking at the boys at the start of the season (having 4 new players to the team – some that have not played competitive football before) I thought this had the makings to be a strong side. The first couple of games turned out to be proof of the material that these boys are made of. The boys showed each team what they can do and that they were to be taken seriously. Throughout the season what these boys managed pull off is a testament to never giving up no matter the odds, the pain, the crap and fatigue (think those alone were played against the Man Child team of Bankstown Bulls) that you play till that whistle blows to say it’s over! There were a few games where we could have rolled over and let the opposition walk away with the win, and in previous years that would have happened! But no, not this year, sheer determination, and the will to win, the drive was always there till the end (And some of Baz’s Always Inspirationally stern halftime “Chats” helped as well). We did get unlucky on a few games, but that made boys all the wiser and that the trophy wasn’t going to get handed to us. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our season to win back to back premierships but I tell you what, We came pretty darn close!!!

I’m so proud of our boys this season (and every other season) but this season more so just for their mature attitude towards their teams mates.

All of this could not have been possible without the best coach and trainer’s a team could have, To Sean and Lumpy, thank you for all your hard work, keeping these boys in line. I would like to take this chance to make a special mention to our outstanding coach Baz, for the ongoing time and effort that has been put in over the years, fast forward to now, a lot of boys had come and gone but still a core group had stayed with Baz feeding off his "Vast" footy knowledge and eventually paving the way to the strong team we have now

To Kylee for stepping up as manager when I “had to go to work” on game days, thanks I really appreciate it. To those parents who got in and helped out with the canteen and BBQ duties without being asked, I really appreciate it. To the committee, this wouldn’t be possible without you and we thank you for everything you do each week and behind the scenes.

PLAYER PROFILES

Oliver Ames: This was Oliver’s first season with us. To start he was a little quiet and nervous (hell, I would be when I have kids who are bigger than me running at me). Once he started to feel confident in himself, he started tackling and making grounds. What an effort. Let’s see how next year pans out.

Lucas Cassar: Lucas returned this season after taking a year off, He’s come back with all cylinders blazing and inserted himself as a valued member of this team.

Patrick Delinicolis: Patrick had a consistent year this year, making good tackles as required, Ole Velco was back at it, with outstanding defense, he just wouldn’t let go. When Patrick got involved, he made it known, great runs and great meters.

Abdul Elcheikh: Abdul our little might mouse being one of the smallest players in the team means nothing to this kid. He continued to run the field, putting his body on the line either being tackled, swung across the football field or as he tackled the biggest kids and got dragged 50 meters. This kid is truly a team player, he would refuse to be taken off and would “pretend” he couldn’t hear lumpy because Once he gets the ball, he’s a hard kid to catch, Abdul had a great year and proved himself to the team and to the coaching staff

Mohammad Elesh: Mohy’s presence was always felt out on the field, setting up the right boys for the hit-up, and a general menace to the opposition. Mohy’s speed and agility helped make a great impact while also back at Fullback, getting in there to shut down those potential tries.

Marcus Khoury: An outstanding year from Marcus, Marcus would make the tackles that needed to be made, he would often set up some good tries, Marcus played a couple of different positions when asked of him. Marcus is a different kid from last year, Marcus’ attitude toward footy was outstanding, he loved being involved.

Logan Lake: What another great year Logan had, continuing his great defense from last season Logan became the human wall for the opposition, constantly putting his body on the line to stop the runs and tries. Logan always stood his ground and did exactly what Baz needed him to do.

Dante Macri: Unfortunately, Date hurt himself prior to the start of the season, Hope to see you next year

Lucas McAndrew: Lucas being one of the smallest in the team found this season extremely hard given his size and those of his opposition so all in all, Lucas had a bit of a quite season. Making the occasional run and tackle. Lucas was placed on the wing, a position that he wasn’t comfortable in until the middle of the season. On the rare occasion he found himself in the centers, where he would find himself in the middle of it all, a place that he seemed to enjoy.

Ekara Mihinnick Fanayan: Ekara was one of the top players in this competition and again asserted himself in every game. His fearless defense is amazing to watch. At full pace, Ekara was very hard to tackle and he scored some good breakaway tries for the team. At full pace, he would throw himself into whatever situations arose and at whoever was coming towards him.

Xavier Pinto: Xavier was new to the team and he was a little nervous to start but by the middle of the season he was making tackles like he’d been playing with this team for years. He did everything that Baz or the training team would ask of him

Jayden Morabe-Russell: Jayden Jayden Jayden, how many tries did this kid score this season, No really we only played 8 games…. And I think it was something like 16 ,0000. Jayden can do whatever is needed of him. I have never seen a kid flip the switch from sweet and innocent to wanting to rip someone’s head off in one set as I did in that game against Campbelltown warriors but you let your football do the talking and look what happened we smashed them. Jayden… Always let your football do the talking because you will ALWAYS leave them speechless.

Lincoln Parmeter: Lincoln, this kid amazes me, another one that has matured over the off season. He’s come into this season a more mature and alert player, always watching his players and knowing their moves and taking advantage of it, He was great last season, but this season he was amazing! Jesse Pinheiro: Jesse had a good season this year, proving what wings are capable of. He scored his first try in game one and then just improved from then. Jesse has potential and I can’t wait to see what next year holds for him.

Fred Safi: “right said Fred” this kid is a fricken tank… he would charge through the ranks dragging players along with him for the ride. Fred loved getting roughed up and would get back up with a smile on his face ready to face it all again. Bring on that attitude next seson

Oscar Sullivan: There has been a change, I don’t know if it’s the deeper voice, the fact I can look him in the eye or the sheer determination that is our Captain Oscar. Watching him out on that field, he dominates it, you see the respect that the boys have for him. He makes the calls and they get done, He puts his body on the line (even when it does take him out 5 minutes in and he’s benched for the rest of the game). He has a “Can do attitude” even when the team’s spirits were a little dented during the season, this kid raised them up. it was without question Oscars on field direction and never give up attitude was our driving force that kept the boys heads up high in the toughest of games that gave way to the great year we had.

Gianni Tahia: Gianni always played his part in stopping those runs and making ground himself. Although G didn’t score any tries this season you can sure bet that he had his hand in the passes leading up to it. G just kept improving each game within his tackling and also hit up just needs to remember how to tie his shoelaces up before the game

Lazarus Vakakoa: Laz was one of our quieter kids, except when he did an amazing intercept, then you would hear from him. He did everything that Baz or the training team would ask of him. Whether it be making a hard tackle to making those much-needed grounds. Can’t wait to see what you can do next season if you ever make it back from Greenacre.

COACH’S REPORT

Not knowing when we would play again but maintaining intensity at training was very difficult as a group. Having said that we missed the grand final by a goal kick so it wasn't a total disaster of a year. Where I think we went wrong as a group is that we had opportunities to change but never recognised our chance to change. We needed to be a bit different this year.

Rugby league like life is about taking chances and recognising opportunities ultimately, it's about decision-making. We may not have made the right decisions however I think we learnt a lot from our experiences as a group and will be better for these next year. I believe we will grow from these experiences, I know as a coach I will.

I want to make a special mention of Peter Assaf, this year he celebrated his 10th year which is a huge milestone especially in the combative sport of rugby league. During his 10 years he has epitomised everything that our club represents honesty, integrity, strong-will, loyalty and determination. You are a coach’s dream.

This year was a Clayton's year, but at least we got some footy in. Coaching you guys is one of the biggest joys in my life, I'm always proud of you. We will back bigger and better next year. It's not easy keeping 15 year olds out of mischief but I can't do it without the support of the best crew of people- thank you. Sal for preparing these boys week in week out you are the best in the business. Charlie for being a great mentor and supporting this team. Maria for always fighting for the boys. and keeping me in check. Jamie for making sure the team and i are organized on match days.

MANAGER’S REPORT

What a crazy year this has been for all of us! Our team was on a high from the Grand Final win in 2019 and was ready to kick start the 2020 season as soon as possible… unfortunately with COVID-19, that would not be the case.

Our boys, as they do every year, train hard and play harder. Their individual commitment and comradery to the team is second to none. I have had the privilege to manage these boys for the last 3 years and am more than proud to watch them grow into fine young men. This year was difficult, but the boys showed compassion, dedication and empathy towards their teammates. There were battles we couldn’t win off the field but we came strong and we look forward to a big come back next year.

As the manager of this team, I would like to thank Anthony, Charlie and Sal who play a most crucial role in these boy’s lives, both on the field and off the field. The hard and painful training is paying off! And even though this year we did not bring the trophy home, we will be bigger and better next year!

PLAYER PROFILES

Best and Fairest Corey Ackers: Well deserved. Played with great impact in every game. You gave us some memorable moments both in defence and attack.... let’s see more!!

Players player Sione Lolohea: Played some really big games this year. A pleasure to watch when dominating with huge defence and damaging runs.

Coach's Award Bailey Myers: Hardest worker I've coached, always ready to play, and you know exactly what he is going to give you every week.

Most improved Connal Amosa: Always trying to improve every aspect of his game, always shows strong commitment to his teammates. UNDER 15-Silver

COACH’S REPORT

The Season that was! It’s on again, it’s off again!!

After six weeks of a gruelling off-season all was called off due to the pandemic, not knowing what the outcome would be. Restrictions were eased and it was back to square one with another six weeks of off-season training.

Finally, the comp was going to restart. Most of the boys came back to training hungrier than ever, but we lost a few along the way. The boys showed fantastic maturity and conducted themselves in a professional manner by just being grateful they were back to play the game they love.

This season the boys were pushed up a division from the threes to the twos, another challenge in a disrupted season. Our team took a no fuss approach to this and continued to work hard during training and were ready for the challenge ahead. The boys went on to play 8 games with 6 wins and 2 losses beating last years premiers along the way. We finished fourth but unfortunately due to changes caused by the pandemic we did not make the finals. The boys were very competitive in all their games, always continuing to improve and impress.

This seasons positives, we were able to add to our team with new players coming to the club. Thanks to the boys great attitude and discipline making it a great environment and a great team to a part of.

Well done to all the boys for the efforts shown both at training and game day. They have continued to impress me and grown up to be fine young men. Our team moto was to be professional and make the most of our time together considering we were lucky to play this season- and they did that well! Thank you to all involved and contributed to our team. Cannot wait to build up on this next season.

MANAGER’S REPORT

Tammy and I worked together again for our very short footy season this year. Even though our games were deferred for two weeks due to COVID, the spirit of training and the game continued. Along with fitness, sharp ball skills and bonding as a team again, the boys showed dedication and we could see a good season ahead.

First game: Round 3 – Roberts Park, the boys played an extraordinary physical game of football. We lost this game, but dam proud to watch the ability of strength, skill and teamwork our boys showed.

Moving onto Round 4 – Came the WOW FACTOR! From here on, the boys played the game with confidence and showed their ability to take many exciting game wins for our short season of football.

Tammy, like a true natural organizer and her contagious smile always had everything wrapped up on time. If the boys stuck around long enough, Tam was happy to educate with a cheeky teacher’s speech for free. Me on the other hand was lucky enough to received special privileges to game day photographing those memorable action shots within the boundary. It was great to capture plenty of hard hits, magnificent tries and those facial expressions are priceless!

To all our parents, a massive ‘Thank You’ for your support throughout the season in any way, shape, or form. Getting the boys to training nights and game days on time, shows your commitment and support to the game and your boys.

Sam our coach, Adam and Steve our trainers and let’s not forget Chris our back up man. Thank You for all your efforts in turning the boys into strong, confident footy players. It’s not an easy task at times to keep 15-year olds on track and focussed but, you all did exceptional with the boys. We also can’t forget our president Grant who was in training for the summer months. Thank you for running the water on our last game and having a great year as president given all the 2020 setbacks. No sweat, No gain, lol!

It was again a pleasure to be part of a team with fine young men who presented themselves respectfully each week which was also seen and commented on by our opposition teams. Enjoy the off season ‘YOU CHAMPIANS’ eat plenty of chicken & vegies because we want to announce and show next season that ‘THE SAINTS’ are coming for that Trophy!

PLAYER PROFILES

Ryan Klem: Geoff Toovey eat your heart out! Ryan is pound for pound one of the toughest kids for his size. He took on some of the biggest kids and got them down. Ryan’s kicking from the side lines was like watching Thurston from the sideline - top effort champ! This year was one of his best years no doubt. He was always making great decisions in attack which led to some great tries. Looking forward to seeing what he has to offer next year.

Xavier Zanzoul: Just like Jason Taumalol he is quick, strong, can step, pass and kick but, most off all he can bloody tackle. His size speed and ball work caused teams so many headaches. Xavier’s defence this year was better than it has ever been. His ability to bust tackles, score or set up a try was a game changer. Whenever Huss and Xavier combined there where points to be made. Despite all his injuries no one was stopping him from playing. So proud of you, Xavier!

Hussein Chami: Holding the job as a captain was huge with all the pressure Huss had on his shoulders to get his boys over the line. But no one would have known because he was as cool as a cucumber. His position as a five eight had improved from last year. Once we tweaked the play, the ball area and speed the service up, Huss was able to create some great backline attack. Huss and Xavier’s defence this year was nothing but explosive. That is why we call them the bash brothers!

Cooper Jones: Once Cooper realised, he is not a 120kg forward, he was an allusive lock. Because of his passion for the game and eagerness to better himself it is nearly impossible to get him off for a rest. He will not surrender until he is satisfied with his efforts and that is something you cannot teach a player. Cooper’s defence on the right side made a massive difference once he was shifted there. Can’t wait to see what Cooper has to offer next year.

Matthew Catrupi: Never fear Mathew is here. Once his confidence was up, some of the football I saw come out of Matt this year was next to none. He dismantled some of the best back lines with his defence. One of Matt’s tries this year was like a Blake Ferguson’s try with one hand - what a great effort for a kid of his size. I am so proud of you little fella.

Tommy Forester: Tommy is our Camron Smith. His ability to direct the boys on the field and at training was next to none. Tommy is half the size of our boys but, he is the general! His talent with set plays was part of the reason for the great year. Tommy was the go-to guy for ideas and for that we are all grateful for his extra efforts. Great season, mate!

Savali Taito Muese Tanu: Savali’s character is in like no one I’ve ever meet. He has a glow about him and his football this year was getting better and better every game. His fantastic stepping kept the other teams pulling their hair out trying to tackle him and his defence was try stopping. But every player’s fear came true when he got injured, which broke all our hearts. He is one of the hearts and souls of our team. The fact he still came and watched in a moon boot means the world to the team. Can’t wait to see you back next year, Savali!

Cooper Hanney: Well if it’s about the next top model Cooper is definitely in the running. He has shredded down from a forward to a centre. Copper took the new position in with both arms and ran with it. His ability to change form a battering ram forward to slick speedy centre was tough. But he accomplished it with flying colours. Can’t wait to see what he looks like next year once he gels in that position. Great effort Coops!

Fredrick Maui: James Tamou- watch out Fred is bigger than you faster than you and tougher than you! But most of all he is prettier than you. This year Fred put his hand up when other forwards went missing. His defence was strong, tough and most off all was effective. His ability to take the ball up time and time again was a great effort for his team. Well done, Freddy!

Haitham Meskari: If you watch the movie REMEMBER THE TITANS there is a saying in the film LEFT SIDE STRONG SIDE. Haitham and Xavier made the left side the strong side making it hard to score there. Being only his second year is one of the greatest and quickest development in a footballer I have seen. Was his football flawless? No, but his efforts were, and he always gave it his all and that is all you ask of a player. Can’t wait to see you next year!

Marcus Sahyoun: Big bad Marcus! This is Marcus second year with the boys and what a huge asset he is. He is a great leader at training and out on the field. He is the first to take the ball up and first to break down the wall of the defence line, to pave the way for our back line. Time and time again he will do the hard yards. His efforts on and off the field contributed to the results of this year’s efforts. Well done champ, can’t wait to see you next year keep it up!

Jack Zanbaka: I called Jack the silent assassin. You might not hear him, but you definitely see his forces of stopping a try or setting up one. Jack has so much more to offer but, that all comes with time and confidence. This year once back from his injury, he showed that with some great plays and great tackles. Great bounce back, Jack!

Alazae Fuatimau: The COKE MACHINE! Some of the kids he hit this year are still in hospital. That’s why we call him the coke machine cause it’s like running into one, you know you’re coming off second best. Alazae surprised me with some of the runs he done this year. He had half the opposition on him and just kept on going. Great strength both in defence and in attack. Well done, great improvement this season!

Nicholas Malakos: Usane bolt is his name. This kid is so fast, Tracey our camera lady, couldn’t take a clear photo of him. They were all blurry because of his speed. When he played fullback, he was able to cover from one side to the other side of the field, without even breaking a sweat. He was a deadly weapon in the back line with his defence picking up from last year. Supper effort, Nickolas!

Totoa Lynch: After coming late to the team because he was lost in translation, Toto finally completed our forward pack. He gave the team that extra kick in attack and defence. We could only wish he sorted out his plane ticket earlier because he would have me a bigger impact. See you next year,T!

Afoa Tutagalevao: Junior was another late starter to the season but once he got some fitness underneath his belt, he became very hard the handle in attack. He busted through some defence lines that showed his strength and potential. He made some big tackles to bring some big boys crash down. Looking forward to seeing him next year!

Gabriel Melki: Gabby was new this year and was trying to find his feet. He could successfully play anywhere we put him. If he was in the back line he was as elusive as a Clinton Guterson, in attack. If his role was a winger, he was twinkle toes Ferguson. Next year, when he settles in, who know where he could play but I’m looking forward to seeing it in action!

Leo Nolan: Leo with a heart as big as a lion. It was Leo’s first year and man he made a statement. He gives it his all at training and on the field. He improved every minute of every game he played. Some of his plays left me wondering on how good he can be if he sticks to it and continues to work hard on his game. Can’t wait to see what you have to offer next year, Leo!

George Winiata: Another newcomer, George only played a handful of games but, what a difference he made. He forced some good players out of good position cause of his talent. When he got the ball, it was try time! We can’t wait to see him with a full year and a pre -season under his belt.

Rabih Merhi: Rabih was on track to have a Dailey M year but unfortunately, he got concussed against tigers which put him out for most of the year. He returned for last few games and gee he made a difference. In one game he made 5 tackles right after each other. Not bad for missing most of the year. Can’t wait to see him with a preseason under his belt too.

Kevin Webbe: Kevin only played a few games at the back end of the season. Coming from soccer to football was a massive difference. His power and speed couldn’t go unrecognised busting tackles and sprinting the hole field to score some amazing tries. If only he started at the beginning of the season, he could have been the comps top try scorer.

Zane Kourouche: Zane started the year on the wing but unfortunately, only played 2 -3 games. He just needed to work hard and be consistent to see the season out.

How do we do it?

COACH’S REPORT

Season 2020 was the first year that St Christopher’s had a girl’s league tag team. We started the season with a team of girls that had never played much or any footy at all. So pre-season training was all about the basic skills of footy, and game awareness in which the girls learnt over the season.

First game of the year we were beaten 56-0. The girls never won a game all year but would turn up every training session with a positive attitude to train hard, learn, have fun, and try again next week. Every week the girls got better, improving the score from week to week, beating the week before performance.

Last game of the season we had to play a grand final bound team, the girls turned up ready to go, we played our best game of the season leading until late in the fourth quarter. We were finally beaten 14-6 full time. Proving that all the hard work at training all year had paid off. Girls I am so proud of you all and you did yourself and your club proud. A fantastic bunch of girls, that I am proud to say I was lucky enough to coach this year.

Now to my trainers Kurt, Gaz and Dawsey Thank You all so much for all your efforts and input every week, to our ball boys Nash and Dylan thank you. Joanne, for making sure the girls looked sharp before setting foot on the field every week with your amazing braiding skills thank you. To Shontel, our team photographer, thank you for all of the fantastic photo’s week in week out. And to Laura for being the manger and doing the entire behind the senses work so the girls were able to play every week, thank you. Thank you all again to everyone that was involved in the Girls U/15 League Tag Team, you are greatly appreciated.

MANAGER’S REPORT

The season of 2020 was one we will always remember, the footy season started as fast as it finished up, with the spread of Covid-19 we had to put everything on hold.

But the season finally started up again and we soon become the first ever girls league tag team for St Christopher’s JRLFC.

I want to thank all the amazing girls for a wonderful season, they have all made beautiful friendships, and the girls have all come so far in their skills both on and off the field. It was so nice to see so many of the sister from our club come from the sidelines and onto the field and play the sport they have watched their brothers play.

I also want to say a big thank you to the coaching staff Darren our wonderful and patient coach, the trainers Matt, Kurt and Gary for all their hard work this season, as most of the girls had never even played footy before.

Lastly thank you to the parents for supporting the girls every week, bringing them to training and games, and everyone putting their hands up to help when needed. I think we’ve all made new friends this season and that is what it’s all about having fun meeting new people and being active.

PLAYER PROFILES

Charlize McLellan: Charlize started the season at dummy half but was moved quickly to half back to organizing the team around the park and was our general play kicker. Constantly worked hard on her defense make some fantastic tags and tagging efforts. Charlize was also picked by her team as the captain for the season.

Tania Ma: Tania played fullback throughout the season doing an awesome job, making some last effort tags saving tries. Tania fit well into the backline scoring a few tries or making massive meters down field to be tagged just short of scoring.

Brooke Phillips: Brooke learnt to play at dummy half this year and done a fantastic job of it, always in position to pass or run from dummy half worked hard in defense and trained well every training session.

Isabella Lauria: Isabella turned up every week ready to train, with her footy skills improving from week to week and constantly trying her best, making some great tags out wide on the field, and taking some great hit ups.

Madison Toms: Maddy’s catching and passing skills improved from week to week and was always willing to have a go. Maddy played her best games of footy towards the end of the season making great tags and always having fun every week.

Stephanie Tayloy-Tyler: Steph always gave 100% at training and on game day being one of our best defensive players making some unbelievable tags in front taking the hit or diving across field to save tags.

Mia Summerland: Mia played in the half’s this season, with great passing skills and understanding of the game, knowing when to run or to pass. Mia always worked hard in the defensive line making some great tags

Mariah Tatham: Mariah was our everywhere player on the field, chasing players down or across park to save tries. Making plenty of long runs down field coming close to scoring numerous tries; Mariah became a constant threat to the opposing team to the point where she was tackled more than once.

Eidah Bahsa: Eidah played on the wing all season. A great listener at training and improved every week. Coming off her wing to take a hit up and work hard on her game staying out on her player making plenty of tags.

Ella-Rose Wight: Ella-Rose started the season on the wing, but didn’t take long moving into a dummy half or on the edges becoming an attacking weapon. Ella-Rose worked hard at training every week and it showed in her defense making lots of tags.

Olivia Dawes: Olivia trained and played hard every week. Running hard onto the ball and using her skills allowed Olivia to be our first player to score a try this season. Liv always got in front of the player when in defense, constantly asking when a shoulder could be dropped.

Chrissy Vareltsis: Chrissy was committed to training and game day, always there to fire up the girls during the game with a positive attitude to keep the girls motivated to do well and forever the first to make everyone have a laugh.

Mia Condoluci: Mia had a great season of footy, always willing to learn and trained well. Always giving her best effort on the field making some 3 in a row tags from marker and running onto the ball – Well done Mia.

Aliska Cope: Aliska started late into the season and fitted into the team easily, always a great listener and constantly trying her best at every training session and game day.

Isabella Tran: Bella played a few games as she started late into the season but played like she had been there all season, tagged well every game and had some awesome runs.

COACH’S REPORT

First of all, MASSIVE thank you to my brother Tui Manoa (Big Bird lol) for the season. You did everything for the team this year and I am grateful to have been Coaching alongside you. Thanks to Damien, Killer, Paul, John and Mette for all the help throughout the year with strapping, gameday expertise, and managing.

Also a huge thank you to the Leaders of the playing group who helped everyone around them, myself included. It was awesome to see knowledge and experience shared and passed on amongst the whole team.

There were plenty of factors against us this year, but these men showed resilience, pride, and passion to the game we love.

After a slow start, we managed to find our feet and we came away with some good results. As the year went on the positive vibes grew so did the camaraderie amongst us all. It was very enjoyable throughout the year and we were becoming an unstoppable force.

Highlight would be knocking off Competition Leaders Berala in an intense, physical match played with so much toughness and spirit. Coming out victors 12-10 I believed that we found our stride and were ready to unleash our full potential.

Unfortunately, our year came to an abrupt, early (and unfair) end. There were a few weeks of us not knowing whether we could continue with our season. Despite the unknown circumstances, I was grounded and humbled to see that our numbers didn’t drop and the boys kept turning up. Very proud to have helped guide and mentor these young men through footy and look forward to following their football journeys as they keep pushing through.

COACH’S REPORT

This year was definitely one to remember. It started off as myself signing on to be the trainer but ended up coaching the u/18 Girls team.

I would really like to thank the girls for a great season and hope you all enjoyed having me as your coach. Thank you all for pretending that you all understood me when I didn’t make sense most of the time . I did get better as the season went on....I think . I really enjoyed my time coaching all of you. I tried to focus on making our training fun and at the same time teach you some new skills. I hope that I achieved that.

I know we didn’t win the grand final which was disappointing only because I thought we are the better team but not on the night. With no reserves which was a challenge in in itself, we just didn’t take our chances on the night. All and all you did everyone proud especially me with the gutsy effort you put in on the night. All of you should be proud of the season we just had. We played short, we played with no reserves and still we made it to the grand final. Thank you all again.

So now I get to talk about each of you.

Sorry guys but I took it on myself to give you all nicknames 

Dee “Don’t mess with me” Williams our Fearless Manager. So happy to have you as our Manager this year. It’s like you were playing as well just from the sideline . You do not take a backward step with the other teams that think they have their own rules to play by not the rules given to all teams by the Junior League. You always had the teams back which the girls are thankful about. Also thank you for your help in the canteen on behalf of our team when needed. It was great having you around this year and hope you have enjoyed your time with us. Thank you Dee.

John “I saw a kangaroo” Kitiona. I really appreciate you being here this year to help me with the girls and guiding me during game days. I know you had your hands full this year with your kids and other commitments that you put your hand up to. I really appreciate you giving up your time every Saturday to help us. Thank you uso. Ps: I still don’t believe you when you said you saw a kangaroo down at Bill Delauney .

Along with Mette “I’m not your Manager” Kitiona thank you for your help in the background as always. I couldn’t have done it without you as well. The late request of online registration, transfer, recruiting girl’s last minute and finishing off doing the girls paperwork as well. Thank you so much.

Now to the girls.....

Charkyl “Captain America” Ngamotu. No real reason for the nickname just because she was our captain. Played at dummy half and did I mention was our Captain this year. Was solid in the middle with her defence and led the girls around the field with pride. Great leader for the team.

Tamika “The Flash” Tohia played in the middle and did not take a backward step. She has come a long way and has improved so much as a player since the under 16s when she first started. Tamika has played a big part for us this year with her non-stop go forward and strength in defence. “No, you’re not fast Tamika’

Shannon “twinkle toes” Su’a had a great season for us playing in the middle. Funny story, after a number of times saying no to playing I thought I’ll try her one last time. I had to ring Shannon at school in class on Friday, the day before our first game to beg her to play. Thankfully she finally said yes, but I think she said yes because I said she didn’t have to train just play . Shannon’s foot work

and speed through the opposition defence was just amazing and great to watch.

Nelta “WOW” Lafolua played on the wing. Nelta didn’t started playing for us till round 3 against St Johns. Mette tried so hard to get her down at the start of the season but she kept on saying no. Yes, another one. But luckily, she said yes to Mette on the morning of the game day. Every time I see Nelta’s tackle I just think “WOW” that’s a great tackle. Great defence out wide and crossed the line a

few times too.

Leilani “Machine” Wilson played mainly at Edge and Centre, but when I needed her to cover another position she was always happy to play there for me even though she didn’t really want to. Leilani’s go forward and defence up the middle was first class. So good on her feet and so strong. Great year.

Gwen “Take it Easy” Swann played out in the Centre but always found her way in the edge/middle looking for more big hits, her trademark. John “I saw a Kangaroo” Kitiona and myself will always say to her “take it easy” we need you next week! Gwen did one of the biggest tackles I’ve seen in a long time. The hit that everyone is still talking about and will always remember her for it. Biggest hit of the year for sure!!

Aisha “The Axe” Fong played at Edge for us and can she tackle for a small girl in the middle/edge. I saw her play a couple years ago and always thought she belongs in the forwards. Her technique is a bit like Trevor Gillmeister. Somehow, I don’t think she’ll know who that is .

Haylee “Catch me if you can” Hifo played for us out in the Centre. Coming back from a broken jaw earlier this year from the Bulldogs Tarsha Gale team. First game back and with her first touch of the ball, she takes off with her trade mark in-out long distance try. It wasn’t her last which was good for the team.

Anneka “The Head Master” Wilson played in the half’s and was our main play maker. She was great in directing the girls around the field. She had so much pressure on her to control and organise the team around the field week in week out. I thought she did it so well and looked like she was really enjoying it out there. Great ball skill and runner of the ball. A great season.

Addyson “Golden Boot” Winterstein was our full back. She has gone to another level with her defence which I was really proud of. Her talk from behind directing the girls where to go really helped our defence line this year. “Golden Boot” for her great goal kicking, but not going to mention the one she missed right in front .

Keelie “Show me the try-line” Wilson played on the wing. First ever year playing rugby league. When I saw her at our first training session I was a bit worried on how she would handle it. But to my surprise she went really well and also crossing over the line in every game except for the last game. Thank you to John “I saw a Kangaroo” Kitiona who did extra training with Keelie, which 100% helped her with her confidence on the field.

Precious “Stop Smiling” Papalii was our utility player. Precious’ first game she got a try but came as a cost with a dislocated shoulder. But it didn’t stop her from smiling and walking around taking selfie photos with the team. Dislocated her shoulder a couple of times this year but every time someone (Dr Gwen) popped it back in. She is one tough girl and always smiling. Great runner of the ball and always seems to find space. So glad you finished the year relatively unharmed.

Stephanie “Sorry Paul” Baker played only 2/3 games for us. Steph always said to me that she wasn’t going to play this year because of work. I could not thank her enough because she only played because we were short. “Nickname” because she always texts me and says “Sorry Paul, working can’t play tomorrow” . Thanks for your help Steph really appreciate it.

Sarah “Can I play“ Kitiona was our trainer. All year she begged to play but was denied. Thank you for your help at training and on game day. I know it was hard for you to watch the girls this year wishing you were playing. But sometime I wish you were playing because you did my head in with her non- stop-correcting us when I would muck up with the girl’s names on game day. Especially your dad John “I saw a Kangaroo“ Kitiona .

Also big thank you to Mareva “Shannon” Swann, our 14th player. Thank you for coming down and training with the girls and also making up the numbers. For most of the time for team run Mareva would play Shannon’s part on the field. You were definitely part of our team.

Last of all big thank you for all our supporters who come and supported us every week. Also, a big thank you the St Christopher’s Club (Grant, Chris and everyone involved) for all your support and hard work you guys have put in this year. As a club you all did a wonderful job. It was definitely a tough and a challenging season with all the changes due to covid. With the long hours setting up, canteen, BBQs and cleaning up. Hats off to you all.

GO THE SAINTS!!!
