JAKOBSSON 3 x 52 min

Genre Crime Drama Director TBC Screenwriters Antti Karumo (FI) Estimated Budget 3.1 Million € Secured Financing 125.000 € Financier The Finnish Film Foundation, YLE

While desperately attempting to integrate into his new homeland, a burly Finnish insulation specialist overshoots things and is consequently swept up in Swedish history’s most infamous crime: the murder of Olof Palme. Jakobsson is an epic tale of migration, telling the story of how the arrival of new immigrants from the most troubled corners of the world, co- mes to change the face of Sweden forever. Based on the novel "The Night Swallows the Days" by Finnish author Asko Sahlberg.

"Död åt fnndjävlar", or "Death to the Bloody Finns". This is what it says on the wall of a depot engulfed in fames. Here we meet our man – the protagonist of our story, working on the assembly line, putting together a Volvo. With the 1980s fast approaching, JAKOBSSON has already spent several years slaving away at this encampment. He has long since had enough of the Swedes. As a Sweden Finn he has had plenty of struggles after the "big move": no job done or gesture made for the greater good of the Kingdom ever seems to be enough, nor does it give him any pleasure for that matter. And that’s what it was all supposed to be about: Gothenburg is said to have been founded as the apple of Gustav II Adolf’s eye, 400 years ago. And just as the King stood on top of the Utrella in central Gothenburg before him, Jakobsson had come here with dreams of building and fortifying the city. His role, which Jakobsson now curses, had been meant to provide him with an identity.

And that had been the case until ROBBAN arrived in town, driving a wedge between the mumbling loner and the other Finns in town. He told Jakobsson, "You may be ugly, but there might be other kinds of work out here for a big brute like you. We just have to work out the details."

ALTER EGO 8 x 52 min

Genre Science Fiction Drama Director TBD Screenwriters Mark Aldridge (UK) Estimated Budget 12.8 Million €

Mankind is getting to a dead end, making people lonely, unhappy and self-destructive. A little change could bring hope: Alter-Egos. As a growing number of us meet their Alter and get connected to a higher level of accomplishment, their fates are linked for better or worst, even in death. How will the world react to this new evolution of mankind? A group of people will try to learn from it and to fight those who want to use it for today’s selfish purposes, in order to build a better future. Based on comics by Denis Lapiere and Pierre Paul Renders.

Every one of us on earth has an Alter Ego, even more sometimes as the world population grows. A being conceived exactly the same second as us. A sort of astral twin who we depend on and who depends on us. This extraordinary discovery was made by the Foundation, a private organization researching into quantum physics and its medical benefits for humanity. This research began 15 years ago, but only reached a result less than two years ago. It’s been kept under wraps as the consequences are still being studied, particularly their first finding: the day our Alter Ego dies, within 48 hours we will follow the same fate. And vice versa. Today, only small pockets of society know Alters exist. For these characters, the confusion, the heartache and the desires the Alter Ego phenomenon causes, will transform their lives forever.

Genre Offbeat crime and family drama Director Screenwriters Estimated Budget Secured Financing Financier Filmby Aarhus, Filmfund Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein

UNDERCURRENT is a dark crime and family drama at the Danish Westcoast. A dead German politician in the sauna of a Danish summerhouse triggers a series of fatal events…. An original idea by Adam Price (Borgen) and Sören Sveistrup (The Killing).

When a human being has been lying in a 110°C sauna for 48 hours, it no longer looks like itself. It’s more or less been boiled in its own sweat and then dried up and slow-cooked. The skin is darkened and the meat so tender it falls from the bone. It’s not a pretty sight. A shame, since the North Sea is so lovely. The surfing south of the White Sands inlet. The dreamlike, iconic lighthouse by Lyngvig, and the nearby summer houses, cradled among the wind-blown dunes. And the Danes take good care of their summer houses. They won’t sell them to Germans or other EU-citizens for that matter. This little, special rule has been in place throughout Denmark’s years in the Union. Not that we don’t like the Germans. We particularly like the many Euros that they pay to Danish cash registers over the summer holidays. It’s an industry unto itself. It brings money and jobs. In the summer, the many beach restaurants sell Gebratene Schollenfilets mit remoulade, brot und butter and the rest of the year they just sell fried fish. There’s actually a whole little surfer culture evolving there, with long-haired, tattooed surfer-dudes and dolls, showing up their neo-hippie RVs, doing yoga, smoking joints and hanging out in their wetsuits while they wait for the perfect wave. The Danish West Coast can be a dangerous place. There are rip currents and, especially, the dangerous undercurrent that can take you far away from shore, out to the deep sea. But this year looks like it’s going to be a great summer.

A genius of despair meets a desperate genius in a sailor pub in Hamburg. An American poet teases violinist Vasko Abadjiev to tell his story, from climbing to the top of his career to hitting rock-bottom on the backdrop of Europe during the cold- war. Based on the life and death of Vasco Abadjiev

Hamburg in the 1970s. The economy is thriving. Its fuel being hundreds of thousands of "Gastarbeiter" - migrant workers who are struggling to make ends meet on the lower end of a blooming capitalistic society. Many of them send the major part of their income back home to sustain their families in a far away country that has become more and more estranged. Vasco Abadjiev is one of those workers who are waiting on the harbour entrance every day to be hired to unload cargo from ships in the port of Hamburg. But his hands have never become used to carrying burlap bags filled with coffee beans or boxes full of colombian bananas. He used to be the finest, most recognized violinist of his generation when he performed in Europe’s biggest concert halls. Vasco’s fingers play Paganini with breathtaking speed. Every once in a while he lands a recording job in the violin section of the radio orchestra of Hamburg but it’s not enough to sustain a living. And certainly not enough to fill those envelopes with money that he regularly sends home to . To Iren, a woman he fell in love with decades ago.

WHEN WE WERE FRIENDS 8 x 45 min

Genre Character Drama / Crime Co-Producer SF Studios Production Copenhagen, Denmark (Senia Dremstrup, Julie Rix Bomholt) Writers David Sandreuter (DK), Lennard Eberlein (DE) Idea & Concept Andrea Schütte, Senia Dremstrup Estimated Budget 5.5 Million €

It's New Year‘s Eve and a group of German friends in their early thirties travels back to the Danish island on which they used to spend their summers together. But when one of them is murdered, the place that is home to many of their happiest memories becomes a trap – and friends become prime suspects.

WHEN WE WERE FRIENDS traces how the mysterious death of one of their own peers leads to the dissolution of a circle of long-time friends. Through different narrative levels, we witness how a friendship is formed as well as how life‘s adversities will eventually lead to its dissolution. The story is related through the six individual fates of our protagonists: Six stories that are deeply interwoven but at the same time driven by individual fate and conflict. Through the combination of present day action and flashbacks, the inner circle will open up to the audience, will charm the viewers and betray their expectations. And as with every friendship, not everything will be disclosed and shared, the audience will have to form own allegiances. Set on the Danish island of Møn, where our group spent the summers of their twenties together, WHEN WE WERE FRIENDS uses the police investigation to delve deeply into its set of characters, their world, and the way the crime impacts their relationships and feelings as much as the community’s stability. The trauma of a killing flushes out secrets within the group, tests the fiber of a place and soils the façade of an otherwise peaceful com- munity. Both past and new conflicts rear their ugly head and reveal our protagonists who their friends are - all the while separating the strong from the weak and the righteous from the treacherous. With a dual level of narration – the present day investigation and the flashbacks to the long gone happy summers – and distinct seasonal differences that reflect the state of their friendship and serves as a reminder of how nature can be so beautiful and terrifying at once. Set up as a German-Danish co-production between Tamtam Film and SF Studios Producti- on we strive to use the dynamics and expertise of each company and country to make WHEN WE WERE FRIENDS a unique Nordic Noir programme, designed for an international audience.

THE LIFE 6 x 30 min

Genre Drama Series Director Giancarlo Sanchez (NL) Screenwriters Ashar Medina (NL, originally Surinam-Cape Verdian) Estimated Budget 1 Million €

Through trial and error – more errors than trials – three young slackers with Surinamese-Antillean backgrounds navigate their way through contemporary Dutch society. Fortunately, their friendship always sees them through.

The Life is a series portraying the adventurous lives of three young Dutch men of colour in Rotterdam: Glenn, Darryl and Jermaine. The three are from Surinamese-Antillean backgrounds and despite their personal differences this common background forms the basis of their friendship. They live in a working-class neighbourhood where they maintain their own traditions and customs. The young men represent a large ethnic group that isn’t totally estranged from Dutch society but at the same time has an idiosyncratic view of it. In terms of plot the series is about three young criminals in a deprived part of Rotterdam. They’ve been drawn to criminality either through curiosity, necessity or tradition. The guys come up with what seem like inventive plans, inspired by stories in movies and music, but often these plans are ill-conceived, naive and pretty impractical. This makes it painfully clear what white Dutch people think of this ethnic group: "This isn’t America."In terms of the characters the emphasis is on watching these three underprivileged ethnically mixed twenty-somethings struggle with work, love, family and ultimately with identity.

A CLASS OF THEIR OWN 10 x 45 min

Genre Dramedy Screenwriters Jakob Pretterhofer (AT), Ursula Wolschlager (AT) Estimated Budget 4.5 Million €

A CLASS OF THEIR OWN focuses on the trials and tribulations of staff at a school on the outskirts of Vienna. Our main protagonist is MAJA, late 20s, a teacher who is passionate about her work and has an instinctive rapport with her pupils. They respect her immensely, although she has all sorts of problems in the rest of her life – including, of course, conflicts with her esteemed colleagues and her devoted parents.

Math teacher KOPF is Maja’s main antagonist. He would dearly love to get rid of Maja: all she ever does is cause problems for him. He deeply resents her liberal values, while she tries to ruin his devious plans: he's trying to pressurize some pupils to quit before taking the school leaving exams, because this will increase the overall pass rate and ultimately help him achieve his long-term goal of becoming a school inspector. This conflict generates the horizontal arc which runs through the entire series: when the first of these underachieving pupils have left, Kopf begins to get threatening letters, and apparently he is subjected to blackmail. Although this looks like a bad joke at first, gradually the menace becomes very real and takes on an increasingly brutal character. But what can he do? Bring in the police? That would definitely ruin his career. So he keeps quiet, while among the staff there is an atmosphere of mounting suspicion as he conducts his own investigation. And the threats become more dangerous and urgent.

Genre Black Comedy Director Sergio Misuraca, Carlo Loforti Screenwriters Alessandro Albanese, Sergio Misuraca, Carlo Loforti (all IT) Estimated Budget 2.8 Million € Secured Financing 300.000€ tax credit

A disillusioned former movie director, accepts the offer of two friends: start a new business, becoming the director of videos of funerals, to create a "video memory" for the relatives of the deceased. An intelligent, grotesque but refined comedy. Black Sicilian humor. No mafia killers but a lot of deaths.

Sicily. Franco, a former movie director who has been living at the edges of society for years, accepts Alessio and Gianluca’s offer to join them in a new business: that of becoming the directors of videos of funerals, in order to create a ‘video memory’ for the families of the deceased. At the beginning, things don’t go very well. The three just continue rehearsing over and over, using friends and family in the rehearsals and forcing the surprisingly enthusiastic Grandpa Pino to play the role of the deceased. Until, during one of these rehearsals, Grandpa Pino actually dies. Franco and Alessio manage to convince his grandson Gianluca that this tragedy is actually the perfect chance for them: they can make their first funeral video, and put it into their show reel. Even though Gianluca isn’t very convinced, things start going better; they hire a foreign editor, Rachel, who is specialized in editing sappy, tear-jerking scenes, regardless of the fact that she’s actually a very cheerful and exuberant person. BeyondTheGrave Films starts to become a brand, also thanks to Father Bono, an accomplice who allows them to work without unpleasant middlemen, such as the funeral agencies. In few months, the four filmmakers work for several clients.
