Abstract Administered by the USDA Forest Service, the Kiowa and Rita Blanca National Grasslands occupy 230,000 acres of public land extending from northeastern New Mexico into the panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas. A mosaic of topographic features including canyons, plateaus, rolling grasslands and outcrops supports a diverse flora. Eight hundred twenty six (826) species of vascular plant species representing 81 plant families are known to occur on or near these public lands. This report includes a history of the area; ethnobotanical information; an introductory overview of the area including its climate, geology, vegetation, habitats, fauna, and ecological history; and a plant survey and information about the rare, poisonous, and exotic species from the area. A vascular plant checklist of 816 vascular plant taxa in the appendix includes scientific and common names, habitat types, and general distribution data for each species. This list is based on extensive plant collections and available herbarium collections. Authors Donald L. Twenty-three species documented from the parkway are first records for the state. Of the nine capture methods used during the survey, Malaise traps were the most successful. Periods of adult activity, based on dates of capture, are given for each species. Relative abundance is noted for each species based on the number of captures. Sixteen species adventive to North America are documented from the parkway, including three species documented for the first time in the state. Range extensions are documented for two species. Parthenium impacts broadly on agriculture, biodiversity conservation and health. Elsewhere, significant control has been achieved over time, using a combination of biological control agents. In South Africa, four host-specific biocontrol agents affecting the leaves, stems or seeds of parthenium have been introduced sequentially since 2010, after evaluation of their suitability. Mass-rearing, releases and post-release evaluation of these agents are undertaken to assist widespread establishment. Variable establishment and spread of the agents has occurred. Biocontrol has the potential to contribute significantly to management of the weed, but greater awareness, understanding, and adoption is required in all sectors, including the sugarcane industry. SMICRONYX SMRECZYNSKII, EEN NIEUWE SNUITKEVER VOOR DE NEDERLANDSE FAUNA (COLEOPTERA: CURCULIONIDAe) Theodoor Heijerman & Kees Alders De laatste jaren worden er met enige regelmaat nieuwe snuitkeversoorten voor de Nederlandse fauna gerapporteerd. Ook in deze bijdrage willen we een nieuwe soort voor onze fauna vermelden, namelijk Smicronyx smreczynskii. In 1995 werd er een exemplaar van deze soort verzameld bij Schin op Geul, in het zuiden van de provincie Limburg. Volgens de laatste stand bedroeg het aantal Nederlandse soorten 576 (Heijerman 1997). Met deze aanwinst is het totaal aantal gepubliceerde soorten inmid- dels opgelopen tot 583. inleiding In Midden-Europa komen zeven soorten van het genus Smicronyx Schönherr, 1843 voor. Deze leven allemaal op Cuscuta-soorten, met uitzondering van S. reichii (Gyllenhal, 1836) die op vertegen- woordigers van de Gentianacaea voorkomt. Everts (1887) meldt voor het eerst een Smicronyx-soort voor Nederland, namelijk S. coecus (Reich, 1797) (= S. politus Boheman, 1834). Later noemt Everts (1903) behalve S. coecus ook S. jungermanniae (Reich, 1797) voor Nederland. Everts (1925) noemt naast deze twee soorten ook S. reichii. Deze heeft echter in deze catalogus geen volg- nummer gekregen en dit betekent dat ze niet met zekerheid gevonden is. Because of the variety of habi- tats present within the park, the diversity of plant species is said to be greater than any other area in the western half of Kansas. This checklist is meant to aid in the enjoyment and appreciation of plants that might be found while visiting Scott State Lake. This checklist does not replace a field guide or other identification reference. There are many good wildflower guides available, with pho- tographs or drawings and plant descriptions. In order to learn to recognize the plants and to learn more about them, it is advisable to purchase a guide for your individual level of interest and experience. Included in this list are native flora and introduced species that have naturalized. Non- native plants are designated by an asterisk (*). This brochure contains a wide diversi- ty of plants. However, this is by no means a complete list of the plants at Scott State Lake. The symbols used are: OCCURRENCE: C = common U = uncommon R = rare OCCURRENCE, particularly of annuals and in relation to the flowering of perennials, can vary greatly from year to year depending on fluctuations in rainfall, temperature, and stress factors that influence growth.
