Welcome to IAMG 2007

Dear Delegate,

Welcome to IAMG 2007 and welcome to Beijing. Some of you from outside of China may be the first time to visit Beijing and if so we are sure that you already feel somewhat different from other places where you have attended the previous IAMG annual conferences. Language difference might be the first impression on your arrival but we are sure that the Chinese hospitality and rich cultural attractions in Beijing especially the NEW Beijing for Olympics 2008 will make you feel safe and relax during your stay for the conference. This year the conference received more than two hundred papers highlighting the main theme of “Geomathematics and GIS Analysis of Resources, Environment and Hazards”. Roughly half of the papers will be presented orally and rest as posters. The program includes three plenary speakers, two IAMG award winners, and three parallel technical sessions. Oral presentations are limited to twenty minutes each. Posters are displayed for a full day, with one–minute oral introductions to each poster in a special plenary poster session. Workshops will be held on Friday. Some free seats are still available in each workshop. Great Wall excursion will be held on Wednesday. Bus will leave and return at Xijiao Hotel. See the details when you register on site.

The conference ice break will be held in the main building of the hotel. Buffet food will be served. You and your friends are welcome to meet with others in this special occasion. The conference banquet on Tuesday evening will be held in Xijiao Hotel.

We hope you will all have an enjoyable and memorable visit to Beijing, China.

FULL DAY EXCURSIONS

Departure Time: 0730 ― meet in the main entrance at Xijiao Hotel Return Time: 1700 (approximate) ― buses will return participants to the main entrance at Xijiao hotel Supper Reception: 1800 ― A supper reception will be provided for trip participants

The Great Wall Coordinator: Guochen Dong, China University of Geosciences (Beijing)

This one-day trip is to visit the Badaling Great Wall, built by the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty, defensive walls spread about through the Yellow and Yangtze River basins, running in different directions and beginning and ending abruptly. In summer, the peakshere are covered with brilliant stretches of leaves and luxuriant flowers. The outcrops show middle Pt (Proterozoic) carbonic rocks and some Mesozoic volcanic sedimentary rocks. Lunch will be served.

Some words from www.badaling.gov.cn The Great Wall is not only the magnum opus of human being but also the soul of China! And the Badaling Great Wall is the eximious representation of The Great Wall. On the peak of the Badaling, The Great Wall is towering. It goes up to the South peak and north peak from the Guan city, convolves on the ridge of Jundu mountain and Qian mountain,You can not see its beginning and end,It disappears beyond. So many people climbed it, surved the Great Wall, felt inspirited, song the praises of it and gasped in admiration…… When did it be built in the groups of mountains? What imprints did the remote years left behind? How many hardships and dangers did it got through? It also has many move one to praises and tears, lamentable and laughable storys of the historical people…… The Great Wall which be created by the human being will be your nice mind forever! The Great Wall is one of the wonders of the world that created by human being! If you come to China without climbing The Great Wall, just as well as you come to Paris without visiting The Iron Tower, come to Egypt without visiting The pyramids! Men often say: “The man who has not climbed The Great Wall is not the true man.”
