Edith Cowan University School of Education DR PAULINE K ROBERTS PO BOX 5426 CANNING VALE SOUTH PERTH, WA 6155 M 0419 447 832 [email protected] www.paulinekroberts.com Profile I initially began my professional career as a teacher and director of early childhood services in NSW. As I developed experience and confidence in this area, I began teaching students at TAFE. After moving to WA I worked as a relief teacher before having children myself. My career focus shifted into a mentoring role through tutoring and supervision of teaching students for universities and assisting them to develop the skills of quality teachers. Through the completion of my Doctoral degree, I took on coordination of teaching units and working in a number of research studies. My EdD research focused on the development of reflection through an ePortfolio platform, which led to investigation of blended environments to facilitate learning. In my current role as Lecturer at ECU, I am focused on Science in the early childhood environment and developing student skills in inquiry planning in the STEM disciplines. Course Coordinator; Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood; School Of Education; Edith Cowan University; Perth; Western Australia From Semester 2, 2015, I have been the course co-ordinator of the Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Education. In this role I am required to liaise with staff who manage the 4 units required to complete this course, as well as review the quality of this course as a whole and coordinate timetabling. In 2016, I was involved in the process of re-accreditation of the S74 course at ECU which required completion of documentation and the re-writing of course learning outcomes, unit outcomes and content to meet the updated requirements for the course through ACECQA. 2014 Unit Coordinator; School Of Education; Murdoch University; Perth; Western Australia I began working as a unit coordinator for 2 external units with a focus on the use of ICT in classroom settings. One unit was a 2nd year elective [EDN205] while the other was a Masters level unit [EDU615]. Both units require the students to participate online with reading and discussion activities and complete submissions of units of work that can be applied to their teaching context. In this role, I was required to keep the unit running on a weekly basis, facilitate online lectures through Collaborate and mark all assignment submissions. 2010-2014 Tutor; School Of Education; Student Learning Centre; Murdoch University; Perth; Western Australia/ Open University Australia I worked as a tutor at Murdoch University in units for first, second and fourth year students. I also worked in a Literacy unit for OUA at Curtin for second year students [EDP230]. My previous teaching experience had been with the first year foundation units [FDN111; TLC120] designed to develop skills required to study at a tertiary level and team-teaching the English and Literacy unit [EDN223/1] for second year students based at the Rockingham campus. My role involved planning and implementing tutorials as well as the marking of assessments. Another unit I was involved in at Murdoch University is the professional practice unit for fourth year Bachelor of Education students [PIP/PI], which required on-campus tutorials at the Rockingham campus to facilitate the theory components of this final practice. I facilitated face-to-face lectures and tutorials, answered ongoing questions and marked assignment submissions. The fourth year unit I have had experience in was the Professional Action Research Project [EDU470/1]. Within this unit I taught students via an external mode. My role within this unit also included the development and implementation of the ePortfolio-based components of the unit and assisting students with this platform. This was the unit from which my doctoral research project developed to assist these students with their reflections using an ePortfolio platform. [EDU4701] 2010 Tutor; School Of Education, Edith Cowan University; Perth; Western Australia At ECU I worked with second year students in the Workplace Learning Unit that prepared them for upcoming practical placements. I was required to develop and present tutorials to several groups and complete the marking of all assessments. [WPL2100] 2006 - 2014 Research Assistant; Murdoch University; Perth; Western Australia Also at Murdoch University, I worked as part of a research project investigating the effects of NAPLAN testing on students, their families and teachers. This was part of an ARC funded project with Dr Greg Thompson. This involved the examination and analysis of interview transcripts including the use of NVIVO for the analysis. I also worked as part of a large research team investigating the use of electronic tools to enhance learning. My role here included interviewing students, transcribing and coding interview data, input into research reports and ongoing work in all areas of the research. This project led to my first co-authored refereed conference paper. While working as a research assistant for Dr Dorit Maor, I gained experience in the processes involved in all areas of research from proposals and grant applications through data collection and literature review, on to publication and presentation at conferences. I also assisted in the development of study guides and course readers. During this time I also worked with Dr Andrew McConney on transcription of interviews and data entry from survey responses in relation to teachers teaching outside their specialist areas in secondary school settings. This has taught me to become more proficient in entering and manipulating numerical data through my studies. 2003 - 2011 External Tutor; Murdoch University; Perth; Western Australia; Open University Australia In 2010 I became involved in the Inclusive Practice unit for 4th Year Education students. The external nature meant that I was required to be involved in ongoing online discussions, answer student questions via phone and email as well as assessing submitted work. [EDU3801] Over this period, I tutored an increasing number of students as they completed the unit “Professional & Action Learning Project”. This unit allows me to assist the 4th year Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Special Needs) students to complete their research in their chosen area. My role included ongoing phone and e-mail contact to answer questions, as well as assessment of their reports for final submission. I also worked as a tutor for OUA in foundation and skills-based units.
