Thank you! Together, we’ve accomplished a great deal providing local programming and the schedule of PBS programs . In 1977, who would have imagined the television landscape could change so rapidly? Television is increasingly becoming an “on-demand” service thanks to video recording devices . And each month more than 11,000 SOPTV viewers access nearly 30,000 programs on our website . Many are using the newly offered Passport service . Launched in November, Passport is available to all members of SOPTV who contribute at least $60 per year . Throughout 2016, we shared many outstanding series and specials . We said goodbye to Downton Abbey from Masterpiece, we welcomed new programs like Mercy Street, Great Performances “Hamilton’s America,” and Splash and Bubbles for our younger viewers . Our election coverage offered thoughtful examination of issues and in-depth analysis . As our dear, departed friend Gwen Ifill often said, “We brought the light and not the heat ”. Our high-quality programming continues to be recognized for excellence in an era with so many channels . The 2017 Alfred I . duPont-Columbia University Awards recognized Frontline and NOVA . The IDA Documentary Awards recently recognized two upcoming Independent Lens programs: “I Am Not Your Negro” and “The Bad Kids.” Other programs nominated for awards include nine Kidscreen Awards nominations for PBS Kids; a Screen Actors Guild nomination for the cast of Downton Abbey; and NAACP Image Award nominations for Frontline’s “Policing the Police,” American Masters “Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise” featured this month on February 21, and Independent Lens “I Am Not Your Negro.” The latter has also been shortlisted for an Academy Award, along with American Experience “Command and Control,” POV’s “Hooligan Sparrow” and “ To w e r,” and “The Witness” from Independent Lens . On a local level, SOPTV continued Student Showcase (now in its 10th season), our Brain Bowl annual regional finals (24th year), The Jeffersonian (5th year) in partnership with students at Southern Oregon University, and we launched a new look at the towns of our region with Our Town: Gold Hill . Finally, we have continued to honor the service and sacrifices of service men and women in our My Story of Service series and our Local Focus specials .
