Coexist Sunday, August 3 at 10:30 pm Following the 1994 genocide of more than half a million Tutsi and moderate Hutu, Rwanda be- gan a social experiment in government-mandated reconciliation. This story of victims and perpetra- tors examines whether the cycle of violence can be broken. Hearts of Zambia Sunday, August 3 at 11:30 pm This is a documentary journal about the power of hope and compassion in the face of the tragedy of HIV/AIDS in Zambia. NOVA: Surviving the Tsunami Monday, August 4 at 8 pm These never-before-heard stories of survival dur- ing the Japanese tsunami are told by survivors who reveal what they were thinking as they made their life-saving decisions. Their stories provide lessons in survival and how we should all act in the face of life threatening disasters. Preparing For Disaster Starting Now Sunday, August 31 at 9:30 pm The one-hour documentary includes interviews with the victims of the Christchurch, New Zealand earthquakes, Hurricane Sandy, and the Herriman, Utah wildfires. From their stories, along with advice from emergency experts, viewers learn practical tips for starting their own personal emergency plans. New Orleans: Getting Back to Normal Sunday, August 31 at 10:30 pm This program follows Louisiana homeowners and business owners immersed in rebuilding their lives and neighborhoods after Hurricane Katrina. They share stories about the floodwaters and their res- cues; relocations and separations; the loss of friends and neighbors; their continuing need for support and their hopes for the future. 3 KRCB From the PRESIDENT Dear Member, As you will notice when reviewing the programming lineup this month, there are a number of programs reflecting on important anniversaries. On television on August 5 at 9 pm, Nixon’s The One chronicles Nixon’s shaping of the 1960s as we approach the 40th anniversary of his resignation. On August 28 at 8 pm, Frontline examines the Supreme Court decision, 60 years ago, that declared separate schools for black and white children to be unconstitutional. Nancy Dobbs And, this Fall we will be celebrating another birthday President and CEO milestone. KRCB, North Bay Public Media, is 30! For three decades KRCB has been providing incredible programming, stimulating community conversations, and featuring amazing community people and events. Tenor Piotr Beczala co-stars as the Prince, Dolora Zajick is Jezibaba and dynamic young maestro Yannick Nezet-Seguin is on the podium. Prince Igor Wednesday, August 27 at 8 pm Borodin’s defining Russian epic, famous for its Polovtsian Dances, comes to the Met for the first time in nearly 100 years. Dmitri Tcherniakov’s new production is a psychological journey through the mind of its conflicted hero, with the founding of the Russian nation as the backdrop. Masterpiece Mystery! Poirot, Season 12 Sundays beginning August 24 at 8 pm David Suchet returns in his signature role as suave Belgian super sleuth Hercule Poirot in two new mysteries, “The Big Four” and “Dead Man’s Folly,” based on the novels by Agatha Christie. “The Big Four” plunges Poirot into a world of global espionage, set against the backdrop of the impending WWII. The public is in a panic after the shocking death of a Russian chess grandmaster, and Poirot must navigate international figures and intrigue to identify the culprit, with the help of old friends Captain Hastings, Inspector Japp and Miss Lemon.
