Course/Grade Text Type Grade 7 Book Unit Cathedral: The Informative/ Explanatory (15 Days) Story of Its Construction (1120L) Portfolio Writing Prompt: After reading Cathedral, write an essay that describes how a famous building or a specific building in your community was constructed. Research the reasons the structure was built and the way the structure has been used over the years. Include multimedia resources such as a power point, video, posters or other multimedia to clarify your essay. Common Core Writing: Text types, responding to reading, and research The Standards acknowledge the fact that whereas some writing skills, such as the ability to plan, revise, edit, and publish, are applicable to many types of writing, other skills are more properly defined in terms of specific writing types: arguments, informative/explanatory texts, and narratives. Standard 9 stresses the importance of the reading-writing connection by requiring students to draw upon and write about evidence from literary and informational texts. Because of the centrality of writing to most forms of inquiry, research standards are prominently included in this strand, though skills important to research are infused throughout the document. The ship was remarkable in that it was the first nuclear-powered merchant ship. It was constructed with funding from United States government agencies with the mission to prove that the US was committed to the proposition of using atomic power for peace and part of President Eisenhower's larger "Atoms for Peace" project. The sleek and modern design of the ship led to some maritime historians believing it was the prettiest merchant ship ever built. This china embodies both the mission of using nuclear power for peace while incorporating the design inclinations of the ship. -

The proposal by Young Woo and Associates to convert Pier 57 into a new and noteworthy cultural and commercial destination will be a benefit to the Hudson River Park and its communities not just for the income it will bring to the Park, but also for the addition of 110,000 square feet of beautiful roof-top public open space, the perimeter walkway, a marina, exciting programming and a variety of restaurants. -

In fact there was a story written by Stars and Stripes on the gun room I worked in about July or August 1986. But to your questions, yes we wore a cartridge belt, the belt was stored in a locker in the turret, and the gun captain filled the belts. After the gun was loaded with rounds, six bags of powder (large bags were 110 lbs. each) and lead foil, the gun elevated down to the platform in the pit where loaded, and the primer was about the same size as a 30-30 brass cartridge. After I loaded the primer I would give the gun captain a "Thumbs up," the gun captain then pushed a button to let them know that the gun was loaded and ready to fire. After three tones sounded, the gun fired, the gun captain opened the breech and the empty primer fell Primer cartridge courtesy of Volunteer into the pit.
