Recent projects include the Vanquish S Red Arrow Edition, which paired these two iconic names to celebrate British engineering. Our latest edition will see us once again honouring history while driving into the future. Inspired by the styling and detail of Aston Martin’s DBR1, our first model to win Le Mans, the DBS 59 promises to be every bit as special. DBS 59 | A CELEBRATORY LIMITED EDITION Aston Martin Cambridge have partnered with Q by Aston Martin to deliver another stunning limited edition. In 1959, the DBR1 joined a very select club of cars to win both the World Sports Car Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the same year. The essence and style of these iconic wins have been distilled into the DBS 59. LIMITED EDITION, UNLIMITED STYLE Aston Martin Cambridge have a great track record of delivering highly successful, sought-after limited editions. Available exclusively from Aston Martin Cambridge, the latest model is based on the new DBS Superleggera – with design and styling cues taken from the legendary DBR1. The DBR 1 was the first Aston Martin to win Le Mans, with a 1-2 finish in 1959. And such a glorious result could not go without a celebratory event to mark the 60 year anniversary. In homage to that historic result, only 24 DBS 59 models will be produced – one for each hour of the infamous race’s duration – with the handover taking place at the Le Mans Curcuit. A UNIQUE EVENT To honour the heritage which inspired them, these cars will be handed over next year at a truly unique event encompassing three-and-a-half days of Aston Martin racing heritage. Take some time between courses to learn a little bit about each of the drivers and why they hold such a special place in motor racing history. Roy Salvadori Salvadori was an Essex-born British racing driver of Italian descent who first came onto the Formula One scene in 1952. He raced for many teams throughout his career including Ferrari, Maserati, Cooper and Aston Martin at the infamous Le Mans 24 Hours. Salvadori started out racing with Ferrari in a two-litre Ferrari 500 F2; making his Formula One debut in the British Grand Prix. He would continue to race for Ferrari, winning the Joe Fry Memorial Trophy before moving to the Connaught team for the 1953 season and Maserati for the ‘54, ’55, ’56 seasons Born: 12th May 1922 when he drove a 250F. Died: 3rd June 2012 Class Wins: 2 (1959 & 1962) Salvadori signed with Cooper and raced for them in 1958, which Career Points: 19 was his most successful season finishing fourth in the World First Race: 1952 British Drivers' Championship behind the likes of Mike Hawthorn, Stirling Grand Prix Moss and Tony Brooks. Over the course of the season, he earned Last Entry: 1962 South two podium finishes, including a second place in the German Grand African Grand Prix Prix.

The company had just debuted a novel car concept, its first crossover1 model under its rarely used historic “Lagonda” brand, at the Geneva Motor Show, but the negative press criticizing the four-wheel drive, four-seater car’s design and concept were troubling and unexpected for Bez. One popular industry blog went so far as to mock the model car’s visual identity: “These first images of the Lagonda caused a collective sigh from [us] here in Geneva, perhaps largely because it takes the form of a crossover – something we weren't really expecting (and something we don't typically associate with either Lagonda or Aston)… Aston wanted an outlet to expand beyond sports car and GTs2…and the Lagonda's designers took that mandate and ran with it – some might say into a bluff-faced wall.”3 Before the Motor Show’s reveal, Bez was highly optimistic about the future of the crossover model.
