Everyone’s Included

Temple Emanu-El, being whole is about finding a place for everyone, regardless of physical, emotional and At cognitive ability. We are home to the child who struggles to follow along in a classroom, to those for whom moving isn’t easy and to those whose brains and bodies move differently through life.

Wholeness takes on a new form of holiness here at Temple, as we strive every day to more fully become a home for all people.

A sensory gym for our children, easy access restrooms, a program for those with dementia and other cognitive impairments, hearing devices, reading glasses and reserved seating for services, caring professionals who work to ensure all students have a full experience in our schools, even a service that recognizes the unique needs of some members of our community—Temple has fully and deeply committed resources to serving the breadth of our membership.

And we are all better because of it.

JFS Honoring Temple On Nov. 7 at 7:30pm in Stern Chapel, Temple is hosting and being honored by Jewish Family Service for its work in serving people of special rights, also known as special needs. The moments I am most proud of Meredith Pryzant, [email protected] are the quiet moments: being there as a child whose parents were told may never walk takes his first steps, seeing a child sit through an entire story for the first time or watching a child who previously played alone joke with her peers.

It is easy to have misconceptions related to children with special rights. Unintentionally, people often focus on what a person cannot do, without emphasizing all of the similarities a child with special rights has to typically developing children.

Rather than focusing on individual differences, we should celebrate differences and how we as a community can learn from one another. Contact: [email protected]
