Livelihoods Analysis of Landmine/ERW Affected Communities Bamyan and Samangan Provinces, Afghanistan (16 July - 18 August 2016) Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) Directorate of Mine Action Coordination (DMAC) Livelihoods Analysis of Landmine/ERW Affected Communities Bamyan and Samangan Provinces, Afghanistan (16 July - 18 August 2016) Abdul Qudos Ziaee, UNMAS Operations R&D Manager in Support of DMAC Fazel Rahman, DMAC/ITF Operations Project Manager September 30th, 2016 Directorate of Mine Action Coordination (DMAC) Directorate of Mine Action Coordination (DMAC), previously called as Department of Mine Clearance (DMC), was established in 1990 under the Prime Minister’s Office. In 1994 it became part of the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA). The name of DMC was changed to DMAC on 20th May 2015. DMAC with technical support from UNMAS is responsible for the leadership, monitoring and evaluation of all mine action activities in Afghanistan including demining, mine risk education, surveys, accreditation and adherence to national standards. DMAC receives support from the US Department of State Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement (PM/WRA) through the “International Trust Fund (ITF) for Enhancing Human Security” a Slovenian Public International Organization in support of the national capacity development of the DMAC. ITF has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with ANDMA. Acknowledgements The successful conduct and completion of this survey was a team effort involving ANDMA and DMAC staff with technical support from UNMAS. In particular, we would like to thank the US Department of State for providing financial support for the survey and also ANDMA provincial offices in Bamyan and Samangan for their endless support to the successful completion of the survey.     On the Good Faith Zoroastrianism is ascribed to the teachings of the legendary prophet Zarathustra and originated in ancient times. It was developed within the area populated by the Iranian peoples, and following the Arab conquest, it formed into a diaspora. In modern Russia it has evolved since the end of the Soviet era. It has become an attractive object of cultural produc- tion due to its association with Oriental philosophies and religions and its rearticulation since the modern era in Europe. The lasting appeal of Zoroastrianism evidenced by centuries of book pub- lishing in Russia was enlivened in the 1990s. A new, religious, and even occult dimension was introduced with the appearance of neo-Zoroastrian groups with their own publications and online websites (dedicated to Zoroastrianism). As epic of every nation is a mirror that shows their culture, nature and endogenous life, these relations and coordination of two Iranian and Greek epics, Shahnameh and Iliad and Odysses show proximity of the two nations in mirror of history. .Shahnameh has been divided into three mythological, heroic and historical parts Iliad and Odysses has been also composed by Homerus, famous Greek poet. Iliad book includes explanation of ten years war between Greece and Troas in 24 chapters and Odysses, which has 24 poems, is about Olis, one of heroes of Troas war and figures his braveries. These two great epics which show two known old culture, can be compared from different characteristics.

Cahier 48), 2012, 248 pp. Symbolic animals or, rather, animal symbolism represent an impressive layer in the Iranian mythology and popular beliefs. The book under re- view consists of an Introduction, five major chapters, Conclusion, Bibliog- raphy, and Index. Chapter I, Gāv-e Gil. Mystérieux héros d’une fête hivernale, is based mainly on Abū Rayḥān al-Bīrūnī’s information on a festival held on the 16th day of the month Dey. The author gives all the possible interpreta- tions of the term Kākil/Gāv-e Gil and the mythological background of the festival. During the feast, the animal patron is represented by a decorated ox. This principal figure is similar to Barmāye, Feridun’s cow foster- mother and Primordial Ox, an archetype of all living species and a totemic ancestor of the First Man. Chapter II, Une formule magique contre les scorpions, is devoted to an- other festival, particularly to the practice of chasing scorpions from the houses. Its holy patron is Esfandārmaδ, i.e. Av. Spənta Ārmaiti, a personi- fication of Mother-Earth. The spell proper, recorded by Bīrunī in Persian, has also Pahlavi and Pa- zand parallels, and the whole festival seems to be the continuation of the well-known tradition of exterminating the harmful and noxious creatures, xrafstars, in Zoroastrian Iran. However, during this festival, the insects were not killed but just ritually removed from houses or fields, perhaps, due to the belief either in their protective power or, as chthonic beings, in their obvious ties with Mother-Earth.
