He also registered his 100th NHL point on his first goal of the game. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was van Riemsdyk's sixth career multi-goal game, who's first of which also came against the Penguins in Pittsburgh on January 7, 2010 as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers.

LEAFS WIN SEASON OPENER FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE SEASON The Maple Leafs edged the 2-1 at on January 19, winning their season opening game for the third straight season. The Leafs also downed the Candiens 2-0 on October 6, 2011 and 3-2 on October 7, 2010 in their last-two season opening games. Both of those games were in Toronto. The Maple Leafs are now 37-41-14-3 all-time in season openers with a 13-20-5- 0 record when starting the season on the road.

TURNING OVER A NEW LEAF Five new players were named to Toronto's opening roster for the 2012-13 season.
