Buffalo Sabres Digital Press
Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips Tuesday, February 5, 2013 Sabres lack balance in scoring By John Vogl Buffalo News February 4, 2013 OTTAWA – Lindy Ruff and assistant coaches James Patrick and Kevyn Adams had solid, lengthy NHL careers. They were not snipers, however. They combined for 313 goals in 2,511 games, which works out to a goal every eight outings or so. That didn’t stop Ruff from joking the trio might provide scoring punch to the struggling Buffalo Sabres. Ruff, Patrick and Adams spent much of Monday’s practice in First Niagara Center anchoring a power play. So after the extended workout, is the trio ready to play on the road against the Ottawa Senators tonight? “We might have to,” Ruff said. There are plenty of “secondary scorers” who would be candidates to come out. Drew Stafford, Jochen Hecht and Nathan Gerbe are among the Sabres still looking for their first goal. Marcus Foligno, Steve Ott and Mihkail Grigorenko head another lengthy list of players who have only one. “That’s our biggest issue right now,” Ott said. “Our second, third and fourth line have not produced at all.” The Sabres will enter Scotiabank Place having won just one of their last seven games. Though they’ve also been a mess defensively, the inability to complement the torrid scoring pace set by Thomas Vanek, Jason Pominville and Cody Hodgson is the main reason for their losing skid. Buffalo needs more scorers, plain and simple. “It needs to happen, and it needs to happen right now,” Stafford said before flying to Canada’s capital. -

Press Clips Tuesday, February 26, 2013
Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips Tuesday, February 26, 2013 Sabres-Lightning Preview By Nicolino DiBenedetto Associated Press February 26, 2013 Steven Stamkos is the NHL's leading scorer and a meeting with one of the league's poorest defensive teams could keep him rolling. It may also be just what the Tampa Bay Lightning need to get off to a strong start for a change. Stamkos looks to extend his goal-scoring streak to six games Tuesday night when the Lightning attempt to capitalize on a meeting with the sputtering Buffalo Sabres. Stamkos led the NHL with a career-high 60 goals last season, while his 97 points were also a personal-best but ranked second to Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin's 109. The All-Star center is again scoring at an alarming pace, as his 29 points lead the league while his 13 goals are tied for first with the New York Islanders' John Tavares. Stamkos has goals in five consecutive games and 12 points during a six-game streak, but Tampa Bay (9-8-1) is only 3-3-0 during that stretch. Poor starts have plagued the Lightning in each of those defeats, getting outscored 6-2 in the opening period. That continued Sunday, when they surrendered three in the first before their comeback fell short in a 5-3 loss at Pittsburgh. "You can't give a team like that a three-goal lead in the first," said Stamkos, who had one goal and two assists. "We made a game of it, we did a lot of positive things, but we're shooting ourselves in the foot." That may change with a meeting against the Sabres (6-12-1), who are at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and give up 3.2 goals per game. -

Press Clips Tuesday, April 2 2013
Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips Tuesday, April 2 2013 Sabres send Regehr to Kings By Miguel Rodriguez Buffalo News April 1, 2013 A couple of weeks ago, a Buffalo Sabres fire sale video started making the rounds on YouTube. While the clip proved to be amusing, rebuilding the Sabres is not a laughing matter to General Manger Darcy Regier. The project reached another stage Monday night with veteran free-agent-to-be Robyn Regehr opting to waive his no-trade clause in exchange for the life of a King. The 6-foot- 3, 225-pound defenseman accepted a trade to the Los Angeles Kings, the defending Stanley Cup champions, pending the results of a physical. In return, L.A. sent the Sabres second-round draft choices in 2014 and 2015. The Kings do not have a first-round pick in this June’s draft and so were reluctant to part with this year’s second rounder. “He expressed an interest in remaining here,” Regier told The News late Monday night. “We had some preliminary discussions relevant to the contract. Ultimately we made the decision that we were going to move him. He was fine with the opportunity.” Adam Pardy was recalled to take Regehr’s spot, giving the Sabres six defensemen. There could be more deals in Sabreland before Wednesday’s 3 p.m. deadline as the 13th- place Sabres appear to be in clearance mode. There are multiple reports Sabres captain Jason Pominville has been asked for a list of the eight teams he’d refuse to go to in a trade. -
